this seems like a massive task :o will try to keep up with it, though I probably won't be familiar with a lot of the 80s songs.

Haha yeah this will probably take a while to write up but I already went through all the Top 10s to pick out the winners for each week, so it's really just the write-ups and such! :)

011. Lipps Inc. - "Funkytown"

4 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 01 Jun, 1980 - 22 Jun, 1980

Everybody knows the beat to this song and It's really just one of those ultimate disco beats. It's just such a classic track and it was easy to pick it out for the top spot in the four weeks it reigned. Again, the top 10 was pretty stale at the time but it would have been criminal to not include this for at least one week. Turns out four weeks is what it deserved in the end. For me this is almost a million seller but not quite there. We'll see how it ranks on the year end list when the year is over. This is Lipps Inc's only song to reach number one for me and I'm not sure I've even heard any other of their songs which makes them kind of a one-hit wonder for me.

012. Liquid Gold - "Substitute"

1 week at No. 1 ∙ 29 Jun, 1980

We're still getting number ones every now and then that I have never heard before and definitely never would have put to No. 1 if the Top 10 situation wasn't so boring. I have no idea who Liquid Gold are or pretty much anything about this song but it's nice enough. It was the least lame song out of the Top 10 and it's not too hard to move to it but I doubt I'm ever putting this on again. This is Liquid Gold's first and last entry on this countdown.

013. Stacy Lattisaw - "Jump To The Beat"

1 week at No. 1 ∙ 06 Jul, 1980

Ok even though her hair looks ridiculous this chick is super cute and the song is as well. This is so typical for that time period and sounds like a bit of a Jackson 5 reject but I've definitely heard this one before even though I have absolutely no idea who Stacy Lattisaw is. This is her only entry on my list as well as her only entry in the UK Top 10. I'm pretty sure some Icelandic radio stations still play this every now and then lol.

014. Bob Marley & The Wailers - "Could You Be Loved"

2 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 13 Jul, 1980 - 20 Jul 1980

Yaaas now we're getting somewhere. This is classic for sure. Bob Marley is and always will be the king of reggae, and my parents played his music a lot when I was younger because my dad's late brother was a huge fan. This is just a pure beautiful reggae-pop song, and I mean most people should know this as it's just iconic. Marley has better songs and two of them make number one later on. This has a rather short stay on top compared to how much it deserves, but it makes up for it in longevity in my charts.

015. Diana Ross - "Upside Down"

3 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 27 Jul, 1980 - 10 Aug, 1980

Here we go. This is majestic. One of the first hits to pop in your head when you think of disco. I was actually surprised to see this hit the Top 10 in 1980 as I always thought this was a 70's hit lol. Diana absolutely crushes the competition for 3 weeks but has to give it up for another huge hit on August 17th. It's absolutely criminal that this was a number TWO hit on the real chart, because this just screams number one to me. Huge is just what this is in all aspects of the word so I couldn't not let it take the crown. Unfortunately the legend Diana Ross only has one other hit on my chart which won't come just yet.

016. ABBA - "The Winner Takes It All"

3 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 17 Aug, 1980 - 31Aug, 1980

After just missing out on the number one in January with "I Have A Dream", ABBA makes more than up for it now by claiming three weeks at the top with the magnificent "Winner Takes It All". ABBA really were a force to be reckoned with and will probably for ever be legends in this genre of music, and just kind of legends in general of course. "Winner" is a fantastic track even though it's not my favorite ABBA track, which is honestly hard to pick since they have had so many great songs. The absolutely best one - "Mamma Mia!" was released prior to 1980, but my favorite from 1980+ also claimed the number one spot later on, so watch out for that. "Winner" is a ballad which was said to be about Björn and Agnetha's divorce but they both claim that's false since there was neither a winner or a loser in that case. Beautiful song, couldn't not let it grab at least one week at number one and in the end it took the top spot for 3!

017. Sheena Easton - "Morning Train (9 To 5)"

2 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 07 Sep, 1980 - 14 Sep, 1980

Oohhh! This is such a fun 80's track! I felt like it needed at least one week at number one, even though it was following two huge hits at the top spot (and would be followed by two even bigger hits). It's just a cute little song about a woman in love and video is pretty cute as well with Sheena biking through town backwards and singing the hit in the same time. Sheena originally had another number one follow immediately but I downgraded that song to number two because I felt another song deserved its spot more, but still she manages another number one later on. "Morning Train" is very lovely but I feel that giving it two weeks at number one is maybe even being a bit too generous but I like it nontheless.

018. Queen - "Another One Bites The Dust"

3 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 21 Sep, 1980 - 05 Oct, 1980

CLASSIC! Queen are of course pop royalty and Freddy Mercury is one of the most famous singers of all time. It's an absolute travesty that this song only spent 3 weeks in the actual top 10, with its' highest placement being at No. 7 so I couldn't help but give it the top spot for all 3 of those weeks since it's just iconic in every aspect of the word. "Another One Bites The Dust" has influenced so many of our best pop tracks as well, as you can hear bits and pieces of it everywhere, including Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" (and I'd like to think you can hear parts of it even in Spain's Eurovision entry this year lol). This is obviously not Queen's only stop at the top spot of my countdown as they have a couple of stints at number one, including a 70's song that got re-released.

019. The Police - "Don't Stand So Close To Me"

2 weeks at No. 1 ∙ 12 Oct, 1980 - 19 Oct, 1980

This is the first Police hit on my list but you can be sure to find a couple of more Police and Sting hits on this list before it's over. I remember first hearing this actually on Glee to be honest, which is honestly a source of many songs on this list but of course the originals are always a lot better even though Will performed this well when he was trying to get Rachel off his case. This is a classic song and I know most people who were teens in 1980 probably remember this song and many other Police hits well, but this is definitely not their biggest hit on my list as that's yet to come. It's a fun, upbeat song and it definitely deserves the two weeks it clamed at number one here.
