June 9, 20178 yr A review of 'Funny Girl' from the Yorkshire Evening Post: http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/what...dford-1-8584833
June 9, 20178 yr I think, in Fanny's time, a man would feel really bad about his wife supporting him. Now it's far more of a shared responsibility but then it wasn't - Men didn't used to be happy staying home while their wife supported them. That's one of the things this version did that felt very true.
June 10, 20178 yr Author Yes.. they like to harp back to yesteryear, and in the process they usually get the show wrong- it was pops tars. NOT Pop Idol! and the irony is that even that controversial rendition showed how good his singing voice was,and he went on to do well in Pop Idol. Since then we have witnessed the true greatness of his voice, and the great revelation of his compelling baritone, which is something to behold! WELL - that another show ticked of my list.I saw Funny Girl at the Kings in glasgow. As ever,Darius was slick, smooth and played his role to perfection. From what I remember of the film,Omar Sheriff didn't get an awful lot to do in the role, which was surprising, given his fame. Me! I would just have liked to hear more of Darius singing, but I knew what I was 'signing up" to, so didn't expect the usual. I would though, have liked to hear him singing all of Temporary Arrangement, but mabey it was a time thing,as there were some othereason scenes,I was waiting to sreceive, that didn't materialise.
June 10, 20178 yr Sorry meant to put Popstars my mistake. Shame they seem to put about that performance on Popstars in articles. He should be remembered as a finalist in Pop Idol.

June 29, 20178 yr https://www.mixcloud.com/jameswattuk/funny-...about-the-show/ good interview but listening to the end of it it's the first time i've really thought that D might not go back to music but whatever he does i'm happy with as long as he enjoys what he's doing.
June 30, 20178 yr Author Thanks Polly for the link to the radio interview- but you gave me a 'fright'at the observation that Darius 'might not return to singing! I thought he had said something in the interview that leday you to think that- but I listened to it,and found no hint of him sayingredients anything that would suggest that! Darius will always sing.It is part of him,and he has the most wonderful rich and flexible vocals I have ever heard, from the purity of his falsetto to the greatly unknown, and 'untapped' wonder of the deepest and most powerful baritone I have ever heard-It is so compelling, but for some 'misguided' historical reason he chooses not to 'cash in on it' so to speak. My messg:to Darius would be to let the nation hear that side, because things have changed now,and with a good song with both falsetto and baritone- what a wow!! But that's the Darius 'fatal flaw'- "stubborness" - can be a good trait for some things, but self destructive in other things! Anaway Polly, don't think Darius will ever stop publicly singing,or be happy not to. Wish he read our opinions more, aso some advice / feedback can be a consideration even for the most stubborn!
June 30, 20178 yr It was just when he was asked if he would be bringing any new music out he sort of dodged round the question and talked about the three new films he's producing. Which is great but it made me think. I'm probably wrong though. Edited June 30, 20178 yr by polly
June 30, 20178 yr In another interview he did with natasha the other day they were asked what other musicals they would like to be in. Darius said he'd love to be in les mis. I do think he would be great as jaun val jaun.
July 1, 20178 yr Darius will shortly be returning to the world of music with a new album project as well as producing a film starring Orlando Bloom, however he is still bubbling with enthusiasm with his role in Funny Girl of which he continues to tour the UK with until August. Part of a review from this week. It's Darius, he has so many options and you can only wait and see which way he goes. 3 films take a while but a new album could manage to fit in. I love his singing work but his acting is also really great
