Crazy downloads propel Barkley to top of chart

Source: MW

The recent change in singles chart rules concerning the inclusion of downloads continues to break new ground this week, with Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy (Warner Bros) looking on course to enter at number one, based on digital sales alone for the first time in chart history.

Early retail reports suggest the single, which gets its physical release next Monday, will deny Morrissey his first number one after comfortably outselling his Attack/Sanctuary-released You Have Killed Me yesterday.

Crazy, which has been at the top of the iTunes download chart for some time, would also have made the top three last week if digital sales had counted towards chart places that far in advance.

Elsewhere in the singles chart, The Kooks are set to rise into the Top Ten with Naïve (Virgin), closely followed by a new entry from Depeche Mode’s Suffer Well (Mute), while releases from Michael Jackson (Epic), Milburn (Mercury) and The Streets (679) are also competing for a Top Ten placing.

An unlikely Top 30 new entry comes from The Royal Ballet Sinfonia/Sutherland’s rendition of the Radio 4 UK Theme (Sweetspot), made commercially available after the station withdrew it from broadcasting schedules.

In the albums market, X-Factor contestants Journey South and Andy Abraham are holding firm at the top despite stiff competition from Embrace (Independiente), Massive Attack (Virgin) and Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Fiction), who all look likely to enter within the Top Ten.

The Kooks’ Inside In/Inside Out is capitalising on Naïve’s success by climbing to its highest position for nine weeks, with Be You Own PET (XL) and Atreyu (Victory) the sole other newcomers to the Top 75.

A Friday Update , yeppie!! :cheer:

Morrisey has slipped a place from earlier in the week.

Massive attack into 3 on the albums, so Andy Abraham must be at #4 I think.

The X-Facotr boys must be dropping fast now Mothers day has gone.

Looks the difference has been smaller. Only 4,000. The #2 can easily beat it.

Never heard One by mary J Blige/U2

Guess it's a "duet", cover of

07-mars-92 U2 # 7 - 6 Wk One 23-{7}-9-24-43-64->6

i thought the yeah yeah yeahs were #7 ?

thanks for spotting that out, yes its No.7, reason for my mistake, I copied the previous post, a copy and paste job, hence forgetting making the minor alteration for them.

What sort of sales total is Gnarls Barkley looking at by Sunday?

Read your PM inbox

I hope the Kooks song stays top 10 I really like it compared to most indie stuff and the Gnarls Barkley may be making chart history but its still utter crap.

"07-mars-92 U2 # 7 - 6 Wk One 23-{7}-9-24-43-64->6" thats an odd songtitle  never heard of that before  and i thought it was just a cover of u2's one  :hic:

Mikey, do you have any idea how Guillemots' 'We're Here' single is doing?

Mikey, do you have any idea how Guillemots' 'We're Here' single is doing?

I doubt if its in the top 40, lowest Physical single seems to be The Automatic, and I'm assuming that's around 35-40 mark

Mikey: do you know where is Andy Abraham in the singles? And can you pm me again the top ten with sales?

thanks

I'd really hope that Mary J. Blige could top the charts next week, but I think it's doubtful, I mean come on Gnarl has topped the charts based on downloads alone, both are released on physical next week, so it's a dead cert that Gnarl will stay on top -_-
