I actually believe it's a good idea to have a later date set for the download of the single - on the condition, of course, that there be no other way to buy the single till then.

Streaming would build up, the song would have time to be playlisted, people would grow to like it. I like it better than the on air on sale strategy.

And they need promotion, lots and lots of promotion, otherwise it will all have been for nothing.

So I heard the song on my Apple Music and I have to say I'm really impressed.

Most of the song is very ballad-like, the chorus has Sigma's classic drum-and-bass sound with Gary's vocal over the gospel choir, and Gary's vocal shines throughout the song, especially at the bridge. Lyrically, it's definitely a love song, but it's a lot more preachy than any of Take That's other songs. The song structure is actually similar to Sigma and Rita Ora's song "Coming Home" if you want a better idea of what to expect, but hopefully this is a song that does well on radio and the charts.

My only criticism is that it sounds more like a Sigma and Gary Barlow song rather than a Sigma and Take That song. It doesn't sound like Mark and Howard contributed any vocals, but if they did then they were drowned out by the gospel choir.

Based on one listen - fab song. High energy, interesting orchestration, great gospel backing and excellent vocals from Gary. However........ I agree with iamstrong. There is absolutely nothing of Howard or Mark in this single. Surely they could have shoehorned their vocals in there somewhere? An interesting departure which I like very much. Whether is appeals to the traditional TT fan welded in their ballad sound remains to be seen.

If after continued listens it still appeals I will certainly download it but my initial reservation still stands. On first listen this is a Sigma/GB collaboration and that does concern me somewhat. If it's included in the Hyde Park set list there'll have to be major changes to incorporate Howard and Mark.

Fab, fab song - infectious and catchy, it hooks you in straight away. After numerous listens I can hear Howard's voice in the chorus parts but not Mark. Howard does have a wider vocal range than Mark and parts of the song are quite high pitched which may account for the difficulty in hearing Mark's voice in the mix.

If TT can't manage a No1 with this song, then they'll struggle with any single release. The production values are good - I would have liked an additional ballad section towards the end because Gary sounds very good but it's a corker of a song. Does anyone know who was involved in the song writing? I've seen a twitter post from a young song writer (apologies for not remembering his name) so wondering if this has been written by TT with others, or if TT have had no input in the writing of it.

As far as I know, TT co-wrote the song.

In case my emoticons didn't give it away, I'm in love with the song - and it only took me one listen

Milly, how good does Gary sound!!! In all honesty he's the only one in the band who could have pulled off those vocals. That said, I would still have liked to hear Mark/Howards harmonies.

At the moment it's like - will the real TT step forward. What a strange year or so it's been musically. From These Days, a solid pop song, to Hey Boy (no comment) to WYBTFM, which I still maintain is a beautiful song to Cry - with a gospel high energy sound. It appears the boys simply want to make music, whatever direction that may take them.

The problem as far as I can see is that there's no distinct TT sound at the moment. Love them or hate them with BW and Circus there was a trademark sound, now they've lost that direction which could alienate a lot of casual music buyers.

I wish I could be fairer or at least pretend I care about Mark and Howard missing from this track, but, right now, I love the song so much and Gary's vocals I don't care one bit. I'm in my own bubble :D

I don't mind them experimenting some more in the meantime, as long as the next album is cohesive and presents a sound that's mature and not far off from the classic TT sound.

I may be the only one who thinks Cry is more of a TT/Gary song than a Sigma song.

Overwhelmingly positive on Twitter so far. One or two less than enthusiastic posts from fans who've realised the lack of Howard and Mark. Actually to be far the only muted one's have been Mark fans.

I understand their feeling - iamstrong immediately picked up on the dominance of Gary and it was evident as soon as I listened to the song. However, the only way there could have been greater input from Howard and Mark (aside from the harmonies in the chorus) would have been for one of them to have picked up the bridge section, but in all honesty that simply wouldn't have worked.

It will be very, very interesting to follow the songs momentum and to see if it transcends the TT fan base. The more I listen to it I can hear the TT sound, but it's been given a fresh, vibrant sound and it's very difficult not to dance to the beat :)

It's fantastic!! So so so pleased with it! Gary's vocal is probably one of his best!

In relation to Howard and Mark, when performed live I can see them performing the more Gospel backing vocal.

Hopefully this will lead to more features! In other words, more TT !

Jay, I'm sure you're right and they'll tweak the songs arrangement to allow Howard and Mark greater input. You're also right in that it's some of the best vocals Gary's done, although I maintain his voice on WYBTFM is quite beautiful.

If this song doesn't do very well I'll be gutted because in my opinion it is a genuinely great 'pop' song. One or two twitter comments about Sigma ' selling out' which I don't understand but each to their own.

What I hate about the charts now is the delayed release dates. Remember the time when a single was aired on the radio and released to buy within a couple of weeks? Far better in my view as records are still fresh and people haven't become bored.

I wonder what the response will be tomorrow when the song is aired nationwide? It's always difficult to judge a song when it's invariably the fan base initially commenting.

I've sent it to a few friends without telling them who sings it...they've all said it's a great song! So reassuring!!

Wonder if they'll do any Tv for it

The official premiere is at 8am on Radio 1

I can definitely hear Howard in the chorus. It's a good track on first listen, an interesting structure with the TT-style verses and the Sigma-style chorus.
This is very weak. Sigma can make great tracks but this is a clone of about 4 of their previous singles. Popjustice and Radio 1 were having a laugh at how samey this sounds on Twitter this morning too, so I'm not alone. I think it could be a bit of an embarrassing outcome for both artists, chart wise - It might go high on iTunes for the first few days, but I can't see it doing well on streaming at all. Sigma's sound is hardly going to appeal to the older R2 audience.

Well, it's doing well so far. It's #5 on iTunes and I have a feeling it will keep climbing.

If this song is weak, we definitely have different tastes.

Charming!

Charming!

Sorry! It's more Sigma I'm faulting than anything, I was a big fan of them but they seem so lazy with their songs now, all having the same build up and beat. Take That sound fine, it's a weird collab in my opinion, but seems to be doing initially very well on iTunes at least!
