March 19, 20178 yr Yeah this is really good. The first episode you can tell was made for TV. Everything after the first episode has been brilliant.
April 2, 20178 yr I loved the first episode! The addition of swearing wasn't out of place, it really felt right and appropriate. That's the one thing that's always annoyed me about US TV is the lack of swearing, it never feels natural.
April 4, 20178 yr Author I loved the first episode! The addition of swearing wasn't out of place, it really felt right and appropriate. April 16, 20178 yr So this is done for the season. It's going to be a long wait for the next season unfortunately. Solid, but not without it's flaws. The long term storylines are where this show misses. I don't really care much for Maia's storyline, nor her father. It's just not... excitable. The cliffhanger wasn't much of a cliffhanger at all. We all knew the father was a dud and he was going to flee. I feel the cliffhanger could have been placed mid-season and this season could have completed the Ponzi Scheme at the end of this season. As much as I love Diane. The storyline with her and Kurt should have also died off. They're great together. But either stay together or don't. Stop jerking us around. Lucca/Colin is an okay storyline, but again. Drawn out. The short term storylines are much more satisfying. Moar Barbara. Moar Marissa.
May 29, 20178 yr It adds some real grit and power to the alt-right episode later in the season in particular! I've just got to that episode now! You're right! This wouldn't have worked as well on broadcast. I adore that Elspeth is back. I think she'd be irritating if she was a main character but when she comes for these fleeting visits it's so well done and she's so brilliant. It really works. I think I'm actually enjoying this more than the Good Wife. It's not just the swearing but that does really add a certain something to show and it's tone
May 29, 20178 yr Saying that, the return of Krestiva threatened to ruin my enjoyment. What a c**t. If ever there was a TV character that needed to be sent to the TV morgue it's Mike Krestiva
May 29, 20178 yr Author I think what works so well for TGF vs TGW is that it's condensed into 10 episode. TGW is one of the only network shows I've watched to maintain an extremely high level of quality across an entire season, but the first couple and the last couple did have maybe 5/6 episode which dragged it down. With this method it's all killer. Add in the swearing and the added grit and I also think the looming presence of Trump (which is touched on overtly a few times, but also dealt with in small scale events too) and it gives the show a new sense of urgency and momentum too. Not that I'm overthinking it or anything...
May 29, 20178 yr I would agree with that summation. TGW is undoubtedly one of the best broadcast TV shows but one that may have benefited from a cable length of 13 episode season or the half way mark of 17/18. The Kings are very good at crafting a story and season long arc but it seems to work better and come together stronger in this shorter season format. I'm really looking forward to the second season! I've got three left on this series. Will get up to the end of 9 today then have to wait until Thursday to see the finale
June 3, 20178 yr Just finished this. Adored Kurt and Diane in the hospital. Had a wee ugly cry at that and then again at the end with the car trip I have absolutely loved this first season. It's been a very strong opening season and I am champing at the bit for season 2!
April 22, 20187 yr No love for Season 2? This show is just brilliant. I love the fact this is a Web Series.. longer episodes, more risque. They've really put Maia on the backburner this season which is great, she is the weakest character and her storyline isn't interesting at all. I'm just glad all the stuff surrounding her Father is done. Diane, just brilliant. I love that she's losing her marbles too. Normally I get tired of shows that dig into Donald Trump, it's nothing new, nothing original.. but they've really taken this to something quite original. And, it's not overbearing like the Maia storyline we had last year.
April 23, 20187 yr I still love it, loved The Good Wifre but think I love this a little bit more just cos its more Diane and Marissa and Lucca, seems more edgy as well with the included swearing every now and again. Maia I wasn't overly fussed on in the first series so I'm glad she's not as prominent this year
April 23, 20187 yr I actually think this is as good as The Good Wife at its peak. So glad they managed to build on that foundation instead of a disappointing spinoff. Season 2 is great.
April 23, 20187 yr I LIVE for Marissa. I like how they finally moved on from the Rindell storyline. Season 2 has been a lot more ambitious than Season 1, even the epic opening titles. I'm not sure how I feel about Diane taking drugs and cheating on her husband, though.

I'm not sure how I feel about Diane taking drugs and cheating on her husband, though. It's definitely a culmination of him cheating on her, planning to retire and then losing everything, struggling to find work, the current administration and lawyers dying around her. She's had a pretty hard time.
