I'm just confused why every new poster who comes here and establishes themselves always gets some sort of backlash. It's completely unnecessary.

Well not every new poster gets this kind of response. TheSnake's posts are hardly work of the devil but I guess they get read by older posters as more hostile than they actually are because they are new, it's hard to explain, someone help me please :kink:

tbh hostility to new posters is a thing, but I don't think Tim's comment was an example of that, like people have already said, it was just a passing comment...

 

I didn't experience hostility right away but I think being brought to the site by an already established member helped that, I was definitely wary about posting though as I did see the kind of things people were getting 'backlash' for. It wasn't until I brought Lotti to the site that I really noticed the divide between new members and the rest of the community, I myself was still fairly new at the time so I think we both kinda got the brunt of it, it was mostly the long-term members that were quite shady towards us at times or people that for some reason had an issue with us being a 'duo', not quite sure why that was but hey :lol: There's definitely newer members that got it a hell of a lot worse than us but the ones that come to mind for me actually did something to get that kind of response, like spamming or creating petty arguments etc, I think it would still have been the same if it wasn't a new member that said it but that doesn't tend to happen because you get used to how the site works and what's acceptable to post etc... a bit of leeway with newer members does need to happen though and people need to stop being so quick to jump on them, NOT THAT TIM DID THIS!!11!!!!

Yes a kind of balance with the connection between a new member and an older member would indeed be ideal.

Oh wow at being as high as #2 :lol: I thought I was possibly going to top the chart this week as I was posting so much (BJSC semi results, Worldvision, returning to the Friday Chart thread etc) but then I didn't post at all this weekend, so then I thought I would possibly be low top 10.
