July 10, 20169 yr I am going to start listening to everything that gets vetoed and adding them to my BJSC playlists. I am discovering less and less amazing music from these contests and i'm beginning to think it's because most of it gets chucked out ~
July 10, 20169 yr Spinnin' Records does have a site where articles are posted (including a few for Bob Sinclar) - this isn't just based on it being on some Youtube channel. hardly surprising spinnin' records has some content on its website that promotes their own releases (but what label doesn't and where are the 'blog' mentions for sony, polydor, atlantic etc?) ~ that's hardly the same thing as a 'blog' ~ the reason spinnin’ is relatively popular is that they produce 15-20 releases a week through a myriad of sub-labels~ Edited July 10, 20169 yr by Ethan

July 10, 20169 yr where does it stipulate in the veto framework that blogs are interchangeable with record labels? what is the point of having a written framework if mods just make it up as they go along? Because the point of vetting 'blogs' at all is us having an idea where people commonly get entries from, we know you have to get your entries from somewhere so we make a note of the common places where it's likely that people will find them - and we know people get entries by looking at certain record labels! That's not making it up as we go along, that's being consistent to the intent of the framework (although I think it should be including a few more common high-profile labels too). Not to mention it only matters for points when a song appears on loads of them at once so it's not really that big a deal and doesn't matter in the slightest for most, if an entry does get vetoed and it's on Spinnin' it'll be one cog in a load more. I thought, after reading the rules thread, that a song had to get 25 points to be excluded? That last one only got 12?! Anyway, is that it with the vetoes now? Only I've got a plane to catch and won't have time to reconfirm if I get kicked out! 25 and it's automatically out without any mod input. 14-25 (and 12 if it gets one 12-pointer) are out if the mods vote it out. With the caveat that nothing is normally safe until the semis go up, everything except the veto replacements is probably okay for now :P
July 10, 20169 yr Sorry I'm doing this from the side of the road so it's a little brief. This is a seriously sketchy veto and that's because it's not really a veto at all. In the rules thread there is a section on not revealing your entry before the semis open. The punishment for breaking this is a suspension. Now this has been slated very very very closely to in our opinion by a few people for a while now and this month we felt that Tim stepped slightly over the line. Now suspending him, as per the rules, felt a little harsh however the song was most certainly not within the bounds of what we would call a level playing field. After all this is a competition that a lot of people take seriously so we try to make it as fair as we possibly can. So instead of suspending Tim, which we didn't feel was particularly fair, we instead decided to boot the song. So really it's not been caught out by the veto but the actual rules thread. Yes it looks like a very harsh veto, but given the other alternate we felt this was the fairest to all as it restored the level playing field and kept Tim in the contest. Now as for the other things I skimmed through at 70, if you have any constructive feedback on changes you think should be made to the veto thread please drop them in the suggestions box. We've just rewritten the rules so a framework update is next on the list. Hopefully some of the rest of the team will be about but if not I'll be back in 3 hours when I make it back to Manchester.
July 10, 20169 yr I am going to start listening to everything that gets vetoed and adding them to my BJSC playlists. I am discovering less and less amazing music from these contests and i'm beginning to think it's because most of it gets chucked out ~ the thing that gets my goat is that the veto framework is applied so rigidly and zealously, without common sense at times, for the presumed goal of keeping a level playing field, yet when it comes to these absurd anniversaries fair play is thrown completely out the window~ relaxing the rules for everyone on a competition anniversary e.g. bjsc 100 would still keep a level playing field, special widgets for nation anniversaries would be a far better and fairer personal accolade to reward long service~
July 10, 20169 yr i am not the best one to explain this decision as i wasn't in full support of a name and shame or suspension (i said that we should be doing a PSA first which we will be doing) but if you guys have any questions i will try and answer them as no other mods are fully available atm
July 10, 20169 yr Okay? But how exactly did I break therules? Y'all always hype ur iwn entries by hints and many people know them by that? It's been done for ages and all over sudden with me its a problem? It's downright sketchy and offensive to me. I know there is behind the scenes beef against me by certain mods, so this decision doesnt surprise me in the slightest. Ryan, this is war

BJSC 100 would be a fun contest to do something special though, it's something we'll have to keep in mind.
July 10, 20169 yr Can we talk about people posting the lyrics to their songs tho, like isnt that revealing ur entry as well?
July 10, 20169 yr I'm sorry but this is ridicukous and I hate how y'all try to take the high road by making it seem like i should be THANKFUL for not being suspended
July 10, 20169 yr a load of us have ALWAYS put up hints like this including lyrics etc. it would've been nice if we couldve had a warning before someones song being removed
July 10, 20169 yr Like I know there is a vendetta against me by certain people, but I thought they had some professionalism in them. It seems even I have more

July 10, 20169 yr There is NOTHING against you Tim at all, but the mere fact that when you posted one emoticon image to your thread the amount of people who knew EXACTLY what you were sending pushed it over the edge. It wasn't like it was one or two responses only as well!
July 10, 20169 yr okay but FIVE of us knew, and i can tell you for sure every one of those people know my entry from my clue and more
July 10, 20169 yr surely people realise by now that the same group of us share potentials AND HAVE DONE FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. if you're going t make this a reason for veto/suspension now give us warnings
