Big bands unite for charity album

Virgin News

Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol are among some of the big-hearted bands who have joined forces for a star-studded charity children's album.

The Kooks, The Flaming Lips and The Divine Comedy have also penned songs for the new record, 'Colours Are Brighter'.

Belle and Sebastian bass player Mick Cooke produced the 13-track LP for Save the Children.

Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos said: "We were very happy to record for this album. I had a safe and happy childhood, but not everyone is that lucky.

"And like most people in bands, we tend to think like children anyway. When I was a kid I hated songs that were too nice. I didn't care about whether the wheels on the bus went round."

The award-winning Glasgow band have written a track called 'Jackie Jackson' - inspired by children's author Roald Dahl - about a nasty boy who meets an unpleasant end.

The Kooks song is called 'The King & I' and is about a killjoy sovereign who bans his child subjects from playing.

All money raised from sales of the record will go to Save the Children's Rewrite the Future campaign, which aims to bring education to the 43 million children around the world who miss out on school because they live in countries ravaged by war.

The album will be released on Monday October 16 and costs £9.99.

I only heard about this an hour ago. :o It does look good though I mean The Warchild album last year had a couple of brilliant tracks on it. ^_^
I think it's a great concept - and certainly silences the haters who say that indie bands become arrogant when they become famous
Yeah sounds interesting, particularly the Kooks' song.
