As mentioned in the Armenia 2017 thread, Switzerland will no longer be the first country to kick off their national selection process publicly as they have in many years recently. This is because the web platform where artists can submit their entries to will no longer be made available to the public. In further changes, only one panel of experts will be in charge of determining the eight finalists (increased from six in recent years) rather than having the decision divided up amongst the various Swiss broadcasters.

Full details at Eurovision.tv!

It's good that Switzerland are attempting to do something after 2 semi-final last places, and I think it's good to get rid of several of the publicised parts of their process as well as stop having this "2 entries from the Italian language broadcaster, 2 entries from the German language broadcaster" and so on. Hopefully this simplified process will see Switzerland return to form!

Lidia Isac has made it to the final 20 of this selection process! :o

(The song is an average male/female duet)

These are the six acts that have been selected for the final at the start of February

Freschta – Gold

Ginta Biku – Cet air la

Michèle – Two faces

Nadya – Fire in the sky

Shana Pearson – Exodus

Timebelle – Apollo

Out of those I'd say Michèle and Timebelle have the most potential, not that I'm holding out much hope for revamps/brilliant staging by the time the Swiss NF rolls around of course.

Ginta is literally Zoe from Austria 2016's slaggier youn....older sister. That was a rather enjoyable mess I'll admit.

6 finalists all with female vocalists though, Switzerland leading the way with Eurofeminism *.*

Timebelle! *.*

Although it's no Singing About Love is it. Reminds me a tiny bit of "Impossible" - it is a nice uplifting ballad and would be a solid if unspectacular entry. Haven't checked out the rest but apparently it is more of the same, but yay for all-female national final!

Had a quick listen to the rest, Michele probably comes closest to beating Timebelle for me - although she reminds me of Ann Sophie in vocal style and sass and that didn't go to well in Vienna did it! :heehee:

Nadya and Freschta both represent the "unique" voices, I probably just prefer the latter but neither match Timebelle and Michele.

The other two are both uptempos/EDM so maybe suffer from being in a live setting but they are both the weakest going by live performances - they are the onyl two I didn't bother watching the whole performance of. I'll be interested in the studio versions though.

Timebelle are the winners again though for me!

The Favourites
No odds have been made available for the show, but the general feeling is that Ginta Biku and Timebelle are favourites to take the win. The latter has been subject to the most hype, although as a returning artist that does skew the amount of hype to a degree.

While you are waiting for the show you should read this article, an insight into Switzerland's history in the Eurovision Song Contest and how their selection methods have changed over the years! (self-promotion for the win!)

Can't say I'm overly excited about this tonight, but if I can make it through 'You Decide', I can make it through this!

Hoping for Timebelle although interested to see if Ginta has had a revamp since the audition process.

Ginta has had a revamp, she released a music video for an all-French version the other day. Still team Timebelle though!
Definitely the right choice out of the 6, I know it's still early but I think this will stay in the semi but certainly not another last place for Switzerland.

Has potential to return Switzerland to the final actually! Borderline but certainly a better choice than the first two songs I heard.

I love how it builds a song around Apollo but without a single lyric alluding to the sun. :D

Yet another midtempoish female ballad YAY
