And it was nice of them to offer Gillian Taylforth that emotional rambling at the beginning to prove she could still act. Unfortunately, they needn't have bothered.

Indeed! I think Gillian is good at playing Kathy when she's doing deep chats, like the one with Ben in the hospital or when she was talking to Buster about her rape a few weeks back, but she can't act out crying to save her life.

I thought Johnny's scene with Colin tonight was really powerful actually, well done on both their parts! I don't think Johnny's gonna win any acting awards as such but I've definitely seen worse than him, I think he gets a hard time in this thread :(

That episode was a total mess in general though  some nice moments but some really silly moments - Mark just blurting out that Grant must be his dad after all that's happened, I was hoping for something more dramatic LOL

His acting is so wooden and his lack of emotion literally makes him look like someone who does Standard Grade / GCSE drama as an 'easy' subject

Ha I can see why you think that in all fairness! although I don't think he's truly been given anything to stick his teeth into yet, he's basically a supporting character and has been ever since his return :drama:

Johnny is shit. It doesn't help that old Johnny was so much better either.

I am awaiting Christine's return *.*

I'm not like Dot. I wouldn't go to Sonia's wedding. It doesn't matter if she's marrying a woman or a man, I wouldn't want to spend any time with Sonia ever.

"I'm ever so sorry but I didn't ask you to hang around"

"What on earth is that?"

The two best lines of the year!

I'm actually quite glad the Mark/Grant storyline didn't develop further than it did. There's not really any point if Ross isn't committed to the show and Susan Tully is literally never ever going to return. Ever. Maybe it could be picked up again when someone has a clear direction of where they want to take the story.
They blatantly knew they only had Ross back on Barbara's orders and there's a good chance he'll never be back and so panicked and decided this secret needed revealing no matter what. Not having Michelle made the whole thing ridiculous and most of the fall out fell flat. Sharon's reaction happened completely off screen.

I'm half feeling it was the new producer's idea to cut the story short and DTC would have taken it further.

I'd like to know what happened to Jay, because one moment he is hiding from a policeman and the next he's at home after just getting out the shower.

K, this is what the new producer really needs to do'

Have Claudette explain how she dug herself out of her grave.

Have Claudette dominate the show for a few months.

Give Donna a good storyline.

Bring in a new family.

Rest the Carters for a bit.

Give Shirley something to do away from her family.

Make Denise the new Leading Lady.

Axe Sonia and Jack.

Do that and we MAY have a good 2017

Hopefully there will only be a couple more episodes of Sonia and then she'll be absent for about a year.

Claudette to murder someone with her boobs at Christmas.

I definitely agree about the Grant/Mark/Michelle thing, it was Michelle's absence that was really detracting from it but there of course was no way that Susan would return so they couldn't get around that. It wasn't just that though, every little "storyline" he was in felt forced and like it was just their goal to rinse as much screen time out of him as possible. Flat is definitely the word, even when he was gonna get with his sister their reaction was just like "oh" :/

His 2006 return was much more natural because you can tell the schedule wasn't planned around him back then. They didn't even have him take the one opportunity to interact with Ronnie or Roxy.

It was quite hilarious to hear Ronnie rant 'Grant this! Family that!' like the second coming of Peggy and yet she doesn't even get to *see* Grant. She literally only had the word of other characters that he was even there...
