Tbf she probably thought she'd struck gold hearing about the Buster gossip and kept in there quiet. Poor Sharon

If that was real life, someone as careful as Denise would've checked the toilet was empty before blabbing her big secret though.

i knew the second we saw the other door was shut someone was in there. i just thought it would be some boring random like Abi or something

A big improvement on last night's episode but still had problems. The scene near the start with the female characters talking about Denise and being an older mother etc. should/could have been really good but a lot of them didn't seem like they were talking natural and spontaneously. Also, you certainly wouldn't have thought two females had recently died - even Honey, who was one of the few characters who was genuinely affected last week, was pretty jolly. I can accept them getting together for a leaving do (even if none of them had spoken to Michelle) because life does go on, but any sort of reference would have been welcomed. I did very much like Shirley's dry retort of "he's a Muslim" after Honey said "I bet Umar thought all his Christmases had come at once" and Denise bursting out with "it's not like I'm gagging for it right now" though.

The iamspamspamamiscenes with Ben, Johnny and Abi were inexcusably awful, do I really need to say why? Those microwaved pizzas had more life in them.

References to the past were overboard as usual when Michelle turned up, but I've come to expect that now, however I can't really see Michelle having cleaners and gardeners of her own back at home - that's not the sort of person Michelle was at all.

The Denise and Shirley scene at the end lifted the episode greatly. Nice to see a continuous, 5 minutes plus scene like that, especially with two great actresses. The build up and the way that Denise revealed Phil was the father made sense and felt natural, which is usually not the case with these sort of bombshells and Shirley's reaction, both when Denise was still there and when she had left, felt very true. I feel like Shirley's generally quite over Phil in that sort of way, but to hear that your closest friend is to have a baby with someone you once cared for so much - especially when Shirley's relationship with Phil never went that far, and they were actually together and in love - is surely going to evoke unexpected feelings. In fact, it seems doubly-fitting that Sharon was listening in, because this is exactly the scene we never saw when Sharon found out that Michelle had a baby with Grant.

I don't think she ever properly faced the closed toilet door so, as well as the fact Sharon didn't seem to even make a squeak, I think it would have been easy for Denise to have not even have noticed or considered checking.

I did think the same afterwards about Sharon getting excited about hearing the Buster gossip though!

ETHEL ESQUIRE

That ending saved that episode, a big feat with the horrendous iamspamspamamiscenes and Shakil/Keegan :/ Diane Parrish has to be the most underrated actress in any soap.

Also whilst they're all babbling on about how they gave birth, no one thought it might be an awkward topic to talk about in front of Jane.

Johnny really is the worst.

The first one I remember is Kat & Zoe, that's when I started watching/taking interest in the show really. Although my family used to watch it long before that, I was just too young to take any interest.

Have we even had one since Max & Stacey? Surely it can't be that long :o I feel like there's been some missed opportunities for one like Kathy & Ian and the Ian & Sharon one that was almost a two-hander.

The Kat & Zoe one is among my favourite Eastenders episodes, despite not watching it when it originally aired. That whole week of episodes was Eastenders at its best tbh; really cannot fault it.

Look at Wiki, we've had two four-handers since Max & Stacey's, as well as episodes largely dedicated to two characters, like the Ian & Sharon one you mentioned and the Kat & Whitney one from August 2013 (far and away one of the best episodes to come from that period of Eastenders). I wholeheartedly agree that there should have been an Ian & Kathy two-hander as part of her return, but her whole return storyline turned out to be a huge turd anyway so there's plenty that should have been done instead.

'Do I look like my mother?' Whilst swigging the wine.

I actually do think this Michelle will work.

Love that episode

"fancy a smack"

And Dot caught in the middle of things with her pussy

I enjoyed that episode too, everyone on my Twitter seemed to be slating it but it was brilliant to see the dynamic between Michelle and Sharon, it was like nothing had changed! The new Michelle is clearly a brilliant actress and think she will work. I do feel like the reveal was a bit anticlimactic because it felt like that was the obvious thing that everyone predicted, but that episode was so full of brilliant quotable one liners

I loved how it showed the strength of Sharon and Michelle's friendship though, she just brushes that off and makes a joke and accepts Michelle anyway and won't trn her back.

It really was good. I could totally believe Jenna Russell as Michelle and Letitia Dean doesn't often get much credit for her acting but to gel so well with a new and recasted actress takes some skill even if the actresses are lifelong friends.

And this is so Michelle. Something had to have gone tits up for her to return given she couldn't be arsed visiting for 20 years and she was always making stupid decisions of a sexual nature.

The only thing missing for me was no parallels were drawn between Phil/Denise and Grant/Michelle. It felt like it would happen but it didn't really. I still want Sharon and Michelle to talk that out, I hate it that it all happened off screen last Summer.

Exactly  I mean I wasn't even born when she left but from what I've read this is so fitting to her. People on my Twitter seem to just not care because she isn't a Carter :drama:
