Completely agree with the above, its a nice enough album, although all over the palce musically, her previous effort was better. Personally I think this album is her worst

"Erm first off, I can defend who I want, when I want, thank you" - I'm not saying you can't but you go about it in the wrong way... eg "AGREE WITH MY OPINION"

Well this forum seems to have turned in to a "mariah is the best" sorta place, I only like 3 songs of mariah's last album... it was always going to sell well in america as it was her comeback, i like 5 of jessica's new album and i have never bought any of her albums in the past, in my opinion it is her best and actually the fans chose this single if you remember correctly.... fired up has been leaked for like a year that's why it hasn't been released.

I never said people have to agree with my opinion.

Also I think you'll find i'm one of the only (if not the only single person) who thinks Mariah is the best there ever was. That's not what i'm preaching in this thread Jack, all i'm saying is, this is ripping off WBT and I think that's blatantly obvious.

To be fair the whole song does seem like an attempt to have some form of mirror to WBT's success, which is evidenced not only in musical style, e.g. instruments, vocals etc. but in the video e.g. lying on the bed, looking like shes really being torn up over it (much like WBT)

Precisely. ^_^

I'm not just trying to be a b**ch and say everyone copies off Mariah - because they don't.

But so much about this whole single is mirrored in WBT.

you can definately see the resemblance to WBT... its unmistakeable!! :)

i've always been harsh on jess and this is NO exception, the video is awful, her voice is all over the place and the song itself is DIABOLICAL!! :puke2:

OMG i love this sooo much!!! had it on repeat all day

That's one

 Do I win anything? :yahoo:

If you listen to the song - she is saying that she wants to be with him - but doesnt want to change anything about herself for him or to have to bow down to him. Thats why she is distressed - because she doesnt know what to do.

Nice video, like the new version + she looks amazing and so are her vocals.

 Do I win anything? :yahoo:

You win nothing but a thank you :o

But the video does resemble WBT, so does the song etc like mentioned above, and as Dan said, the album is ALL over the place. This is her worst album, I only like about 3 songs, and as for not putting the 2nd single on the album - what's up with that? Not to bash Jess but her last album was a good path to follow and she has just tried to impress and show that she's over Nick - which she shouldn't have done. She said in an interview 'The albums gonna have a bit of everything - just like Mariah Carey's new one.' Personally, I think she has tried to proove herself as an artist too much :(

That's called having a varied album. Look at "Stripped" - a classic album full of different types of music. That's how I like albums to be, which makes this her 2nd best album imo. Many great songs in it, you just have to have a broad taste in music.

I certainlly agree with what you said, its important to have broad tastes, but to me, it comes across as a complete mish mash, like Jessica is trying to show she's an artist for every genre, something she doesn't pull of convincingly. Like on the country track, "push your tush" I think, she really does a very poor country act. If you listen to other country artists theya re far more convincing in their niche market, whereas on A Public Affair, Jessica appeas to be forcing herself into every genre, just so it will sell. Its good shes experimenting, but the tracks she shows us dont show artistic progression in my opinion, unlike what she debuted on In This Skin...

Just my opinion :)

I can see where your coming from, but the styles here are just too distinctive to make the album work - there's pop songs, country song, ballad, jazzy song, there isn't a medium in the album - it just sounds a mess. I like some of the songs, but the lyrics aren't very good in my opinion...

I have broad taste too, I like everything from more rocky/metal songs, to pop, to country, to rap and so on ... This album seems like a demo tape or something, where she will be trying to convince the record label to sign her, but in this case it's trying to win us over. Thing is with having so many genres, which sound TOTALLY different, people will get mixed up and confused over the album.

When I heard In This Skin I was amazed, she was brilliant - I paid £16 for this in HMV ... but this album, for me, is a downfall because In This Skin was such a good album.

Despite its WBT resemblance I really like the song and the video. However, the song does not show of her vocal capability. Its quite sad - she has an amazing voice. Better than most of her peers. Somebody like Christina Aguilera has established her talent and her voice but can still do pop songs. Yet Jessica Simpson also has an amazing voice but can't establish that as her talent. So instead she over does being "dim" for the press to get publicity and nobody really takes her seriously

100% agree with that. :D

Completely agree with that statement as well, its like shes trying to sell herself through her music and videos (APA and With You say it all) as being a bit dim, I just watched a programme about Paris Hilton, and there was a comarrison between the two;

"ParisHilton being an author is just about as stupid as Jessica Simpson being a dentist"

Shes recognised from being blonde, and not for her voice, something that she hasnt showcased in its true form since her first album.

the thing with jessica is that her albums are patchy. she has some good songs, like on this one- fired up, i belong to me, a public affair. but then she also has a lot of not so good songs on the record. and if i belong to me doesnt do weel in america i can only see her releasing one more song and then parting ways with the record company if that one doesnt do good. because if you think about it she isnt actually that successful, she has moderate sucess. and with the last album she has the promotion with newlyweds.
Completely agree... In This Skin was a solid album I must say, but most of its success was off the back of Newlyweds. However, her other albums are patchy I agree and I dont think I Belong To Me will have much success. However APA has gone gold so I think the next album will be make or break.

Basically she has good PR. She is more famous as a celebrity than she is a recording artist - she is a tabloid/magazine queen. In the UK her music is not very well known, but her name and face is everywhere in magazines etc. Its a real shame because the girl has talent, allot of it.

And I agree about her albums. They're always a "mixed bag" so to speak.
