Posted October 4, 200618 yr My favourite cartoon Jem has just been released in the UK on dvd! :yahoo: Though not the entire series its the "movie" which is actually the pilot for the series which ran for 3 seasons from 1985 to 1988. The TV-series revolved around a girl named Jerrica Benton, who by the help of the holographic computer Synergy can project a hologram over her body to become the glamorous Jem. Synergy was left to her by her late father. Her mother was also a singer who died in a plane crash. Only a few people know that Jerrica and Jem is the same person, Kimber, Aja, Shana, and Raya. Together they form the band Jem and the Holograms. They are owned by Starlight Music of which Jerrica is president, and hold lots of benefits for their charity, the Starlight Foundation, which houses foster girls. Jem and her band constantly battle another girlband, the devious Misfits, later followed by the Stingers. Region 2 cover http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000IAZ2SM.01._SS500_SCLZZZZZZZ_V41257814_.jpg The show revolved around the rock glamour lifestyle inspired by MTV and the ongoing love triangle between Jem, Jerrica and Rio as he dates both charactors not knowing they are one and the same. Later in the series this was driven further when Riot of the stingers decided Jem was the perfect women for him. Born from a brilliantly written story, the episodes were at teen/adult level because of its superior character interactions, as well as an excellent mixture of romance, action, and adventure with original music. This cartoon has it all. Mystery, adventure, music, glammer and glitter, and romance. If you have not seen Jem! You do not know what you are missing. This is the best cartoon ever made. It is about an all girl rock band. The band is called Jem and The Holograms. The show also has a wonderful doll and toy line that came out in the 80s. Lately Jem T-shirts have been seen on the pussycat dolls, on the O.C and on Madonna videos. Both Pink and Beyonce are also very loyal fans Edited October 5, 200618 yr by Ozmead

Mystery, adventure, music, glammer and glitter, and romance. If you have not seen Jem! You do not know what you are missing. This is the best cartoon ever made. doubt if the compilers of the 100 best cartoons ever show on c4 will have ever heard of this  so perhaps no
October 6, 200618 yr I vaguely remember this, wasn't it some sort of crappy cartoon made to sell a line of toys...? I blame George Lucas for this sort of thing....
October 6, 200618 yr Author doubt if the compilers of the 100 best cartoons ever show on c4 will have ever heard of this  so perhaps no Wrong. This cartoon enjoyed success in the 80's and was highly rated in America. It has since then gained aa cult following and its season 1 and 2 dvd set were a best seller in 2004. The Jem doll line is also the most highly collected doll in history. Every year large Jem conventions are held in different parts of the world. In October 2001, Wizard Entertainment (publisher of Wizard magazine) published an issue of the top 100 best cartoons ever. Jem was number 93. This is what was said in Jems listing. And I really don't care what Channel 4 have to say, to me this is the best cartoon show ever: http://www.jemunlimited.com/toptoon/93.gif It is an amazing cartoon. Far better than Josie and the pussycats. It has brilliant charactor storylines and interactions for a childrens cartoon and is played out like a cartoon soap opera. Colourful for children, interesting for adults, with action and glamour. Its truly unique. Plus instead of musical performances they are done in the style of a music video. This show was made to sell a doll line but the show performed better than the doll line. Even when the line got cancelled the show was the 3rd rated cartoon in america. The shows cancellation had nothing to do with rateings, but on the slow sales of the dolls. Although they were the number 1 marketed girls toys of 1986. The first time Barbie has ever taken a back seat. ANYWAY, its brilliant Edited October 6, 200618 yr by Ozmead

October 6, 200618 yr Author Erm, it really does worry me that you went to the time and trouble to find all that stuff out.... It wasn't trouble. October 6, 200618 yr Author and most of these polls are only relevant to the small group that are reaching out to (like the nme student anthems poll), whereas a more mainsteam poll would overlook them. Don't know why you are so sure about that considering you don't even know of the show by the sound of things. What I have said is fact. Im not telling you to like it or anything but you implied people don't even know this show exists, yet is still has a large fan base and was very successfull in its time also. DVD sales have been high, it has many many websites, and the dolls sell for amounts sometimes 10 times more than their original selling retail price. So if you don't know of any of this, thats okay. But don't say its not good if you don't know anything about it Edited October 6, 200618 yr by Ozmead
October 6, 200618 yr Don't know why you are so sure about that considering you don't even know of the show by the sound of things. it is 1985 you know. and it has not turned up in any list show that i've seen, and i try to see them all. so if it is not deemed worthy for inclusion on these show, it must not be of that much standing compared to things like the flintstones, tom and jerry, the simpsons etc etc. probably on the same kind of standing of mezzoforte and midnight starr in the pop world (names at random)
October 6, 200618 yr Author Im not to concerned if it isn't on a large list. It was a cartoon originally to promote a toy line. All I am saying is don't imply it is not a successfull show if you don't know anything about it. It got its dvd releases purley based on petitions demanding it so. And unlike allot of cartoons it only ran for 3 seasons. Because of the slow sales of the toyline in its second year they pulled the plug. So for it to have the following it does after being around for a short time is impressive Edited October 6, 200618 yr by Ozmead

August 11, 20159 yr I remember this being overplayed on the sky movies channels in 1996 and 1997. I used to have it on video but it got worn out which is why I was glad when it got a DVD release. Shame it's been deleted and I can't believe people are selling it on eBay between £30 and £40
