Snow Patrol Frontman Slams 'Outdated' Radio Stations

http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php/20...s_outdated_radi

http://images.starpulse.com/Photos/Thumbs/Snow-Patrol-band-jp01.jpg

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody has slammed U.S. radio for continually playing outdated songs, instead of using the medium to promote new music. The Northern Irish rocker, who is currently enjoying success in America with the band's hit “Chasing Cars,†insists the nation needs to update its broadcasting choices - branding the current situation a "graveyard for records."

He says, "You just have to turn the radio on there to know there's a problem. There is literally hundreds of stations dedicated to playing Eighties rock such as Poison, Heart, Whitesnake, Def Leppard. There is a serious problem.

"If television is the new radio (Grey's Anatomy, The O.C.) what's going to happen to radio? The radio, as I see it, is a preview device. A place to hear the records you may one day like to own one day soon. Not a graveyard for records you sold at the same car boot sale you sold your stonewashed denim jacket."

Band dedicate a track to Northern Ireland football team

Snow Patrol began their European tour last night (October 9) at Copenhagen's Vega Bar.

The band played a set mixing songs from their recent albums, 'Eyes Open' and 'Final Straw'.

Singer Gary Lightbody dedicated 'Open Your Eyes' to the Northern Ireland football team saying: "We're only a tiny small little country, and we beat Spain the other day. This song is for the Northern Ireland Football Team - I love them!"

Clearly in a generous mood Lightbody also dedicated 'Run' to the sold out crowd telling them Copenhagen was one of the "most beautiful cities in the world."

Snow Patrol played:

'Spitting Games'

'Wow'

'Chocolate'

'It's Beginning To Get To Me'

'Headlights On Dark Roads'

'Grazed Knees'

'Chasing Cars'

'Shut You Eyes'

'How To Be Dead'

'Somewhere A Clock Is Ticking'

'Make This Go On Forever'

'Ways And Means'

'Run'

'You're All I Have'

'Open Your Eyes'

'Tiny Little Fractures'

The band are now set to release their new single 'Set The Fire To The Third Bar' featuring Martha Wainwright on November 13.

Snow Patrol Q up for magazine awards

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/lifestyl...sp?story=710411

By Maureen Coleman

17 October 2006

Snow Patrol are up for two top gongs in this year's Q music awards.

The Northern Irish indie band are shortlisted in the categories Best Album for the chart-topping Eyes Open and Best Single with Chasing Cars.

Also in the running for Best Album are Keane with Under The Iron Sea, Arctic Monkeys for Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, Muse's Black Holes and Revelations and Kasabian's Empire.

In the Best Single category Snow Patrol will battle it out with Gnarls Barkley's Crazy, I Don't Feel Like Dancin' by Scissor Sisters, I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor by Arctic Monkeys and Never Be Lonely by The Feeling.

Irish supergroup U2 are up for the Q Best Act in the World Today award alongside Muse, Coldplay and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Arctic Monkeys lead the way with four nominations while Muse received three.

The winners of the awards will be announced on October 30.

The double nomination for Snow Patrol coincides with the news that the band will play the reopened G-Mex in Manchester on December 15 as part of their UK arena tour.

They will be the first act to play the newly opened venue, which was last used by Oasis during the Be Here Now tour in 1997.

Snow Patrol are already playing Manchester Evening News Arena but decided to add on another date due to demand for tickets.

The band, who have enjoyed a hugely successful year with a number one album, their highest placed single to date and a tour of North America, will be returning to Northern Ireland on December 21, when they play the Odyssey Arena.

Meanwhile, Snow Patrol kicked off their European tour earlier this week in Copenhagen, Denmark, dedicating one of their songs to the Northern Ireland football team.

Frontman Gary Lightbody said: "We're only a tiny, small, little country and we beat Spain the other day.

"This song is for the Northern Ireland football team. I love them," he added.

Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (30),

 It broke my heart when I found out that they were playing and it was too late to get tickets. I would've absolutely loved to have gone and seen them live :(

Never mind... i'm sure they'll come back to Newcastle someday :(
