26. FIREWORK- Katy Perry (58,353) #3

No 1 in 8 weeks in 2010

Moving up to the 8 week mark now with Perry’s million selling “Firework”, these sales were actually recorded the week the song made No 4, incredibly the song's weekly sales dropped as it rose into the top 3 the following week. The Video incidentally is filmed in Budapest fact fans.

25. STEREO HEARTS- Gym Class Heroes Featuring Adam Levine (68,287) #3

A tale of Adam Levine Vs Adam Levine really. Whilst “We Found Love” was streets ahead of the competition this was fighting Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” for the runner up spot. It was a return for GCH who had been out of the chart game for 3 years though admittedly Frontman Travie McCoy had been popping up on the occasion hit in the interim.

And talking of “Moves Like Jagger” it was in the mix again here though to be honest “All Fired Up” started the week just a few hundred copies short of Pixie Lott (when she was a chart force eh) and slide further behind as the week progressed ending up 20k adrift of the top spot in the end. Only their No 1 single “What About Us” ultimately sold more in its first week than this track.

23. WRAPPED UP- Olly Murs Featuring Travie McCoy (75,081) #3

In sheer sales this is actually the 11th highest on this survey, sadly though it was also the week of Band Aid 2014 who sold 312k to arrive at No 1 (which featured the man himself) whilst Clean Bandit managed 81k leaving this for the bronze position. It was launched by the traditional X Factor performance and some stunning sales to boot.

More Olly for you, again launched with the help of X Factor (he’s a lucky boy) this was originally meant to include a rap by Professor Green. Not sure if that would have provided him with the additional sales required to top the charts but other X Factor acts like JLS and X Factor finalists ended up ahead of him so a mixed blessing for him and that show.

So whilst “Firework” was clocking up impressive numbers at No 4 this was generating bigger numbers at No 3. Jordan of course found fame on “America’s Got Talent” and was signed up by Jay Z. Heavily sampling Deadmau5’s “Brazil” it stormed into the charts at No 3 but couldn’t overcome the power house’s of Rihanna and Cheryl Cole who were scrapping for the top spot.

So there we are- we've finally arrived at the top 20 Unluckiest tracks of the last 6 years- We'll go into the top 20 tomorrow!
'Happiness' is quite brilliant, I definitely appreciated it more when I found out it was deadmau5's production too. One of my fave dance music producers, though unfortunately he hasn't had a hit single in ages as he doesn't make commercial singles anymore.

Oh, I didn't know that was actually a deadmau5 sample on Happiness - I always thought it was someone copying his style but more commercialised. It's a great track with some fond memories of that (bloody cold) winter.

I don't even know what Wrapped Up sounds like :/ This thread is really showing me how depressingly low my musical knowledge got from about 2013! Drawing a blank at most hits from that year on...somehow I even completely missed Can't Hold Us at the time, which judging by its sales I'm wondering how the hell that was even possible. Thrift Shop on the other hand I remember easily.

Going back a few pages but to think that as recently as 2010 a CD single still worked wonders for a chart performance - 'All The Lovers' is the last time I can remember that happening, they were almost extinct in HMVs even then.

20. FOURFIVE SECONDS- Rihanna/ Kanye West/ Paul McCartney (61,554) #3

A new Rihanna single heralding a new album is always a big deal and no doubt many an eyebrow was raised when this emerged but it did its job, 11 weeks inside the top 10. These sales came from its first week at No 3 though it was still 39k away from the top.

19. GRAVITY- DJ Fresh Featuring Ella Eyre (62,878) #4

No 1 in 10 weeks in 2015

Both acts had form in hitting the top, Eyre on Rudimental’s “Waiting All Night” and DJ Fresh on both “Louder” and “Hot Right Now” in the early years of the decade so on paper this was a dream combo. Up against massive sellers from Mark Ronson, Ellie Goulding, and Hozier, it failed to dent the top 3 but it is the third highest placed No 4 hit on this list.

18. SWEET LOVIN- Sigala Featuring Bryn Christopher (64,351) #3

Vocals from I see MONSTAS frontman Bryn Christopher proved a success for Sigala’s follow up to the chart topping “Easy Love”. The latter song knocked Bieber from the top and similarly this was aiming to knock the man himself off again, this time around he was No 1 with “Love Yourself” but it wasn’t to be. Streaming knocked it down to No 3 which at least means it features on this rundown.

17. BLOW ME (ONE LAST KISS)- Pink (70,207) #3

http://popcrush.com/files/2012/07/Pink-single.jpg

No 1 in 11 weeks in 2012

She might have lost a midweek chart topper with this track (the eventual winner was Ne-Yo’s “Let Me Love You”) but Pink’s “Blow Me” would still have been No 1 in 11 different weeks through the year. After the “Funhouse” era had showed her capable again of No 1 singles this was her first single from “The Truth About Love” her first studio album in 4 years and so perhaps it is no surprise that sales were so high.

16. BARBRA STREISAND- Duck Sauce (66,964) #3

For some reason I’d completely forgotten that Duck Sauce contained a certain Armand Van Helden, but back in 2010 “Barbra Streisand” became a smash hit sampling the Boney M track “Gotta Go Home”. It was the last we heard of the collaboration between Helden and A-Track though they still produce the odd track.

15.BILLIONAIRE- Travie McCoy Featuring Bruno Mars (67,000) #3

No 1 in 12 weeks in 2010

On a hiatus from Gym Class Heroes, and post Katy Perry, Travie hit it big with this track co-written and co-produced by Bruno Mars. The inspiration for the song apparently linked to a visit to the UK where Mars’ record label gave him £240 to spend over 11 days in London- hard times.

14. LET THE SUN SHINE- Labrinth (67,868) #3

330px-Labrinth_Let_the_Sun_Shine.jpg

No 1 for 12 weeks in 2010

Becoming Simon Cowell’s first non talent show signing in 6 years, Labrinth arrived on the pop scene in tandem with Tinie Tempah on “Pass Out” and “Frisky” but later in that year Labrinth branched out on his own with this track. In entering at No 3 it saw the rapper stall behind his old collaborator Tinie and of course Bruno Mars who was never far from the top in 2010.

13. DNA- Little Mix (72,044) #3

Little_Mix_-_DNA_(Official_Single_Cover).png

No 1 in 12 weeks in 2012

A spot of early Little Mix now, their third single in fact but their first to fail to hit the top but given those sales it would have been enough in 12 weeks of the year. The promo takes its lead from the film “Sin City” and looked like it could have made the top lagging only slightly behind Bruno Mars (again- what is it with him) but was outstripped eventually by Mars and 1D.

Crazy that DNA was almost 4 years ago. I remember being gutted when this missed the top spot, but I'm glad in hindsight, since its chart run was pretty terrible.

I imagine 'Move' is still to come. Now that would've made a cracker of a #1.

12.WITH UR LOVE- Cher Lloyd Ft Mike Posner (74,730) #4

220px-Cher_Lloyd_-_With_Ur_Love.png

No 1 in 12 weeks in 2011

Fresh from her stint on X Factor Lloyd scored a No 1 with “Swagger Jagger” in the summer of 2011 courting a fair amount of negative press in the process, during her X factor “journey” she’d performed “Cooler Than me” so it was perhaps appropriate that she roped in Mike Posner for her follow up “With UR love”. The Song debuted at No 4 but sold more than her No 1 single did in its first week, them’s the breaks.
