Posted March 29, 200619 yr SHOOTING DOGS : Cert 15 - TOP RECOMMENDATION This promises to be an intense and harrowing drama. Set amidst the chaos and horror of the Rwanda genocide. LondonNet Film Review Catholic priest Father Christopher and idealistic schoolteacher Joe Connor try to protect Tutsis from machete-wielding Hutu extremists in 1994 Rwanda. As angry crowds gather outside the school, which is guarded by United Nations troops, Christopher and Joe risk their lives to gather the supplies necessary to keep the refugees safe and well. As the volatile political situation deteriorates, Father Christopher realises that foreign governments are turning a blind eye to the genocide. - (PA) BASIC INSTINCT 2 - Cert 18 Do we really need this worthless sequel? It aint as if the original was really that good anyway - director Paul Verhoeven spun enough style into it to make the crappy script into an acceptable film, but he's not directing the sequel, so, oh dear..... It's just Sharon Stone taking off her clothes, again....  I mean, Christ, she's almost FIFTY...... :puke2: THE WHITE COUNTESS - Cert PG Former US diplomat Todd Jackson, who lost his sight at the same time as he lost his wife and children, hopes to open the perfect bar in the centre of a city bracing itself for Japanese invasion. Aided by a shadowy figure called Matsuda, Todd sets about creating an oasis of decadence and romance. During his visits to many rival bars, Todd meets disgraced Russian countess Sofia, who earns money as a dancer and prostitute in some of the city's shadier nightspots. Desperate to have Sofia as the jewel in the crown of his bar, Todd entreats her to work for him. In the process, the former diplomat experiences a long overdue self-awakening. Heritage Cinema giants Merchant/Ivory are at it again.... FIREWALL - Cert 12 Ageing action-man Harrison Ford is at it again - this time he's playing a Bank computer security boffin whose family is kidnapped by a gang of ruthless crooks led by brilliant Brit actor Paul Bettany (really playing below what he's really capable of...). You can pretty much guess how this is all going to play out, but it's probably still gonna be enjoyable enough....
