looks like Starving will finally properly take off in the chart soon then. It's definitely a future top 10.

I always thought they were a band with a really pretentious name but I just googled and found out he's just a bloke from Tunbridge Wells lol. The song's not bad actually.

BBC RADIO 1 RESHAPES NEW MUSIC STRATEGY

by Rhian Jones

BBC Radio 1 is phasing out its In New Music We Trust playlist in favour of a new chart show and two extra C List spots. The news comes hot on the heels of criticism fired at the Beeb for not playing and breaking enough U.K. music.

INMWT features three fresh tracks crossing over from specialist that get one to two plays per day. Taking its place is two spaces on the C List, where tracks get the same amount of rotation.

What’s also recently arrived is Phil Taggart’s weekly one-hour Radio 1 Specialist Chart—a bite-size digest of the hottest music, compiled by combining the tracks most loved by the Beeb’s specialist presenters and listeners. It’s interesting to note that the first list, featuring 16 tracks, is made up of at least 14 from U.K. acts, with one from Denmark and no clues where elusive act Lully is from.

Changes are happening in order to respond to young people’s phone-centric listening habits, and to give greater impact to those new tracks and artists that do end up being added to the main Radio 1 playlist.

Now that's a shame! The INMWT List is really good as it allows daytime crossover for songs that usually wouldn't get it. I hope it just means that 1 or 2 of the songs will get a C-List spot and increased rotation.

So they're going to help new music by... taking off the new music part of the playlist??

What they really should do is have a ten minute segment on each daytime show where they play at 3 songs from the specialist shows of the previous night. Then they have the rest of the show to play commercial stuff whilst new underground music gets somewhat of a look through

I've just listened to the Specialist Chart and it's surprisingly decent. The show is broken up by songs featured in the specialist shows, future contenders for the chart and the Top 10 compiled by the night time DJs.

The first Top 10:

1. Mura Masa feat. A$AP Rocky - Love$ick

2. J Hus - Playing Sports

3. Kate Tempest - Ketamine For Breakfast

4. Clean Cut Kid - Make Believe

5. Nimmo - Dancing Makes Us Brave

6. Creeper - Suzanne

7. Cadenza feat. Jorja Smith & Dre Island - People

8. Metrik feat. Elisabeth Troy - Chasing Sunrise

9. Kölsch - Grey

10. Ray BLK feat. SG Lewis - Chill Out

Might try and post this in here every week? It'll break up the TOTD posts, but just don't expect it straight away on a Monday after the show airs because busy

I feel like they play mostly newer artists that you won't remember next year and not enough of the legends to be honest.

Why would you want that? I am glad they play new artists a lot aswell as the big songs from the big artists. I hate commercial radio sorely for this reason. The same pop music tracks on heavy rotation all day every day is not what I am interested in!

I agree and the fact they discriminate against certain styles of music except when they have no choice (eg.Adele) makes it worse!

New additions:

Blossoms Blown Rose

DNCE Body Moves

Galantis & Hook N Sling Love on Me

Hailee Steinfeld & Grey f/Zedd Starving

Olly Murs Grow Up

The Vamps & Matoma All Night
