Brave heroes hounded out

The Sun

October 07, 2006

MUSLIM yobs who wrecked a house to stop four brave soldiers moving in after returning from Afghanistan sparked outrage last night.

The house in a village near riot-torn Windsor had BRICKS thrown through windows and was DAUBED with messages of hate.

Four young Household Cavalry officers who had planned to rent it were also the target of phone THREATS.

They were yesterday forced to look elsewhere to live — after top brass warned them against inflaming racial violence near the Queen’s Windsor Castle home.

Last night furious Shadow immigration minister Damian Green said: “This is a shocking development.â€

Colleagues of the officers branded the vandalism a “disgraceâ€. A source at the regiment said: “These guys have done nothing but bravely serve their country — yet they can’t even live where they want in their own country.†The £3,000-a-month detached home in picturesque Datchet, Berks, is less than a mile from Windsor Castle. It was attacked as extra police were drafted into Windsor — where battles have raged for days between Asian and white gangs.

The young officers — from the same regiment as Prince Harry — had planned to use the four-bed house for rest and recuperation after months risking their lives on the frontline.

Louts struck two days after the four arrived in uniform in an Army Land Rover to view it.

The source said: “A gang of local Muslims set about keeping them away. They hurled bricks through the windows and then wrote offensive graffiti across the front of the house.†The vile messages included one in 4ft letters on the drive — warning: “F*** offâ€.

Sources inside Windsor’s Combermere Barracks — where the officers are based — confirmed Muslims had made calls threatening the men.

The scandal comes as Tony Blair today pledges the Army in Afghanistan can have ANYTHING it needs to hammer the Taliban. Writing exclusively in The Sun he declares that Our Boys are “the best in the worldâ€.

A Household Cavalry insider said of the Muslims’ insult to Britain’s heroes: “Everyone in the regiment is really upset. It’s one thing coming under attack in Helmand in Afghanistan but quite another getting this abuse in England. The officers were determined to face down the yobs and still move in — but didn’t want a race riot on their hands.â€

Police hunting the vandals confirmed: “One line of inquiry is that it is racially aggravated.â€

The house’s owner Johanna Ledwidge refused to comment beyond saying she was very upset. A shocked neighbour in the quiet street said: “We pride ourselves in this neighbourhood that we welcome all cultures.â€

Tory MP Philip Davies said of the attack: “This is outrageous.

“If there’s anybody who should f*** off it’s the Muslims who are doing this kind of thing. Police should pull out the stops to track down these vile thugs.â€

Sir Andrew Green, director of the think-tank Migrationwatch UK, said: “Incidents like this are absolutely inexcusable and seriously undermine efforts by all sides to achieve integration. Those who choose to live in this country owe a loyalty to Britain.â€

A spokesman for letting agency Kings, who are marketing the property, said: “It was an isolated case of vandalism. We do not know the reasons behind it.â€

For a start, I dont approve of it, it's unpleasant to be sure, but frankly it's kinda understandable given the the sheer unpopularity of the B-Liar Govt and the "war on terror, and it's not entirely without precedent either - Vietnam Veterans found themselves targets of similar hate campaigns (and in some cases a LOT worse than this...) by radical anti-Vietnam war groups. Vietnam Vets were shunned by society at LARGE, spat at on the streets and called "baby killer", not just targeted by a few hotheads. Soldiers who had served in Northern Ireland were also targets of hate campaigns, my Uncle who used to be a copper, told me a story about a squaddie going for a drink in a Celtic supporters' pub in Glasgow, ended up getting a bottle smashed across his face and told he was an "Orange Proddie b/astard" and then got his head kicked in by several people all chanting pro-IRA slogans.. Sh!t happens mate... Frankly I'm surprised this sort of thing hasnt happened before now given the widespread opposition to the war.. So, basically the story is, a group of hooligans vandalised an empty house...? Happens all the time.... Is it as bad as a bunch of white BNP-types desecrating a Jewish cemetary and daubing swasitkas on gravestones - not even close mate.... And if the squaddies in question were actually WARNED against renting a property in that area, then more fool them for not listening to advice, there are certain areas in London that I sure as hell would not rent a flat in because of them being high crime areas...

Strange how the Scum doesn't exercise as much 'moral outrage' when it was the case of during the week an Asian-owned dairy business being targeted by a bunch of petrol-bomb throwing white youths who objected to the owner wanting to build a Mosque on HIS own property for HIS own employees. Two sides to every story mate, I thought you'd be a bit more intelligent than to just jump on the 'anti-Muslim' bandwagon, I'm so disappointed in you mate....

How do they even know it's Muslims anyway..? Because some disembodied voice on a phone told them????  Puh-leeeeeeeze...... How about we wait until the Police actually catch the suspects and establish whether or not they even go to a ruddy Mosque on anything actually like a regular basis before we start playing the blame game...

ok, one- i think you'll find that many women (in this country anyway) do themselves choose to wear the bhurka. thankfully, the UK is a free country, everyone has the freedom to choose what they want to wear, be it a headscarf, a bhurka, a bikini, a miniskirt or whatever else- it's all about choice. Surely if these women have themselves chosen to wear it (and, yes, I do know that this is not the case with all women), we should respect that??!

two- you say "there's some freedom of expression even you must find questionable...." why is that when muslims spoke out against the cartoons of the prophet they were told to shut up because it was a matter of "freedom of expression", whereas in this case, where muslim women are exercising this freedom, it is deemed "questionable"?

three- why do you find them insulting? the women wearing them are doing so because they want to dress modestly, it is not intended to be a personal insult.

Straw's comments could not have come at a worst time. why on earth did he not speak out about this earlier? why did this suddenly become such a pressing issue? I in no way condone the attack on the house by the muslim youth (posted by thisispop) and at the same time I don't condone the attack on the elderly muslim woman in Liverpool. Both are outrageous, and imo, stem from a lack of respect and understanding of eachothers cultures and beliefs, at such a sensitive time, Straw's comments are just adding fuel to the fire.

Someone finally showing some sense in this Thread....

It seems utterly strange to me that Jack Straw can get this amount of support from people who, up until now, have been going on about what an utter gobsh!te he is... And something else that's strange to me, all this approval he's been getting for his comments... Hmmm, I just wonder how many of these people who are supporting him have been showing similar support to Mayor Ken Livingstone who quite understandably got a bit peed off with a Jewish journo who had been harrassing him.... The comments Ken made were directed at THAT particular individual (and not even remotely racist..), who then had the fukkin' nerve to play the race card. And now, Ken is in the sh!t because of it...

Seems to me that you can say whatever offensive sh!te you like to the WHOLE of the Muslim community, but woe betide ANYONE who dares to slag off a single Jewish journalist.....

A case of double standards methinks....

Scott...

it is EVERYONE's right to speak out about something we find, as a society, utterly abhorrent. If these women were born here, also, then they would know the unease these items make 99% of British people feel - so it goes back to my post which asked - are these women wearing them as some sort of antagonistic point?

How the hell do you know that it's 99% of the British population, you gone out and asked EVERY single person in UK have you...?.. Or are you just taking what some bloody Tabloid Poll says as being Gospel truth... And if they are wearing it to make some antagonistic point - so fukkin' what?? It's no different to someone wearing a "Jesus is a C/unt" t-shirt or a "George Bush - International Terrorist" T-shirt is it..? That's pretty bloody antagonistic, so is wearing a bloody HOODIE these days if we are to believe the Tabloids... I would reckon if you were to do a similar poll about hoodies, then you'd see pretty similar results....

And if you're gonna talk about what British people might find 'uneasy' mate, bear in mind that I reckon the majority of the British public would be pretty 'uneasy' about the Fetish clubs that I sometimes go to and about certain activities on Hampstead Heath or Clapham Common. Me, I dont care, because, as you say, I'm open and liberal-minded, but plenty of people arent.... and they tend to be the same sorts of people who go around shopping centres racially abusing and ripping headscarves off of Muslim Grannies minding their own fukkin' business..... <_<

I totally agree with Russt, from personal experience living in Swindon, Muslims make little or no attempt to integrate into British society, unlike the large number of Hindus, Eastern Europeans & Afro-Caribbeans that we have here.

If I was to live in an Islamic society I would not expect to carry on as if I was living in the United Kingdom, so why the hell should they expect special treatment, asking for the introduction of Shari law, etc in their own communities in the UK?

And since when did British ex-pats actually make a serious attempt to 'blend in' with a local culture or society...? Never happened mate, not to any meaningful degree anyway... Ex-Pat communities make little or absolutely NO attempt to learn the language or culture of the country they emigrate to, whether it be Spain, Germany, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia or Japan, and the vast majority of Brit ex-pats make no attempt to integrate either, making friends only with other Brits or other English-speaking foreigners such as Americans, Canadians or Austrailians... So just bear that in mind next time you talk about Muslims 'only sticking together', we're just as bad when alls said and done

And it may interest you to know that in many of the oil-rich Sheikhdoms of the Arab world (such as UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, etc..), there are MANY concessions made to Western employees of large Multinational Corporations - they CAN exercise their right to Christian worship in specially set aside areas just for them, they CAN drink in certain designated areas set aside only for Westerners, they CAN access the Internet freely, they CAN watch Western cable or satellite TV; they have a damn sight more freedom than the locals do that's for fukkin' sure, so you would get to do a fair bit of the things you do now...

...wasn't it 93%.... in a poll of nearly 200,000 people, Scott?

In a country of 59 million, what does one poxy poll matter....? I mean really, polls mean fukk all, look at all the times in the 80s and 90s when the Tories were down in the pollis, they kept winning elections though didn't they....? Polls didnt stop Blair from going to war in Iraq either....

"There are lies, damn lies, and statistics" as someone once said....

If we all listened to what the supposed "majority" felt in 1967, homosexuality would still be illegal (and I'd be willing to bet that there were polls conducted in the 60s that had a similar percentile ratio against legalising homosexuality..) and you'd end up in prison for practicing your basic human rights to freedom of sexual identity, and as a bisexual male, I'd likely be right in the cell next to you.... Bear that in mind mate before you start prescripting what freedoms other people should have based upon such ludicrously biased "polls" that tend to be made up of small-minded "Daily Mail" readers and bigots....

...wasn't it 93%.... in a poll of nearly 200,000 people, Scott?

true, but think of the time the survey was conducted- right now at the height of the "anti-islam" fuss, right after the issues with the cartoons, the pope, and now Straw.

conduct a poll 3 or even 2 years ago, i'm sure the results would be significantly different.

Exactly..

I think the Media (especially the tabloids) has a lot to answer for in this. It's getting to the point where I'm beginning to think I'm living in Germany in 1933!!! <_<

There is no way in HELL the Media would get away with the sort of tone of their reportage about any other ethnic group in society.... Look at what happened to Mayor Ken, he makes one comment about one Jewish reporter......

Obvioiusly, the Muslim community don't have as good lawyers or PR as the Jewish community does....

It's just so easy to pick out one group of people and blame all the bad sh!t on them, if it aint Muslims they have a go at, it's folk from Eastern Europe.... Britain was fukked-up long before July 7th 2005 happened and long before the Berlin wall came down, it's been fukked-up for about the past quarter century or so, when a certain evil b**ch in a blue suit blagged her way into 10 Downing St along with her cronies.... <_< <_< She wasnt no Muslim in a veil....

tbh scott, life before thatch wasnt all rosey you know!... the early 70's saw mass inflation, three day weeks, power blackouts and everybody was on strike, it was a 'diabolical liberty'... and although thatch's lot did little to help, equality just didnt exist... blacks, gays, women, all legitimate targets for riddicule..... in fact, thats just about 99% of humour covered.
