Celebration to Raise Funds for Newman's 'Hole in the Wall Camps'

 

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Music sensations Kelly Clarkson, Marc Anthony, Madeleine Peyroux, and Rascal Flatts will join co-hosts George Clooney, Billy Crystal, Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson and Bruce Willis at Singers and Songs Celebrate Tony Bennett's 80th on Thursday, November 9th, 2006 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, it was announced today by legendary music producer Lou Adler. The event honors the milestone of Tony's 80th birthday and will benefit "The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps", which was founded by Paul Newman.

 

The special event promises to be a once in a lifetime experience with the announcement of Kelly Clarkson, Marc Anthony, Madeline Peyroux, and Rascal Flatts confirmed to perform as they put their own unique touch on Tony Bennett's classic songs. As a special highlight of the evening, Tony Bennett will also perform. The celebration will feature the biggest names in entertainment as they gather to celebrate a musical legend while at the same time raise awareness and vital funds for the "Hole in the Wall Camps", including "The Painted Turtle" located in Southern California, which provides a medically safe place for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses to experience camp.

Kelly Clarkson made her debut with the album, Thankful, in 2003 after winning "American Idol". Her second album, Breakaway, went multi-platinum before winning "Best Pop Performance" and "Best Pop Vocal Album" at the 2005 Grammy Awards. Marc Anthony is best known for his salsa music and ballads. In 1999 Anthony won a Grammy for "Best Tropical Latin Performance" after a sell out concert at Madison Square Garden. The honor was followed by the release of his first English language album which included the hit single "I Need to Know". Madeline Peyroux is an American jazz singer, songwriter, and guitarist who is noted for her vocal style reminiscent of Billie Holiday. Her debut album, "Dreamland", was released in 1996 and garnered widespread attention. Her latest album, "Half the Perfect World" features several collaborations with well known artists such as k.d. lang, Jesse Harris, Walter Becker and Larry Klein. Rascal Flatts has released four albums over the course of their career and is best known for their hit single, "Bless the Broken Road", which was nominated for three Grammy Awards and won "Best Country Song". Rascal Flatts have been nominated for three CMA Awards this year including the award for "Entertainer of the Year", "Vocal Group of the Year" and "Album of the Year".

 

Mr. Bennett has sold over 50 million records world-wide and has platinum and gold albums to his credit. Bennett has received thirteen Grammy Awards including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The MTV generation first took Tony Bennett to heart during his appearance with the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the 1993 MTV Video Awards ceremony. He appeared on "MTV Unplugged" and recorded a live album of the performance which garnered the singer Grammy's top award, "Album of the Year." Tony Bennett is one of a handful of artists to have new albums charting in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and beyond.

 

"Hole in the Wall Camps" is a non-profit organization with camps worldwide reaching out to children with serious illness and life threatening conditions. The first camp was founded in 1988 in Ashford, Connecticut by Paul Newman who started the camp as a place where children could find serenity to take their minds off their illness and just be kids. Its mission is to provide a year-round life-changing camp environment while offering 24-hour, state of the art medical care. Over 100,000 children have enjoyed the "Hole in the Wall Camps" free of charge.

 

"Hole in the Wall Camps" has nine camps throughout the world, including the one in Los Angeles The Painted Turtle. The Painted Turtle, co-founded by Page Adler and Paul Newman, has year-round programs consistent with the other "Hole in the Wall Camps".
