January 14, 20178 yr I hope the 'jury' know what they are talking about and aren't as awful as the jury that we actually sent last year to the ESC that gave Georgia 12... but that was one of the best decisions a UK jury has made when not falling in line with the winner? It's great country diversification (i.e. that was such a British sound from Georgia that it makes sense for them to get points for sending a Britpop pastiche). I'm very on board with this, by the way, whoever gets picked collectively should have far more of an idea of what does well than the public, who I trust only about half the time.
January 14, 20178 yr I can't at Ryan trying to peddle Verka and the grannies as amazing novelty when they're the absolute worst. The best novelty is the likes of Scooch and Dustin the Turkey!! Seriously? :huh: Verka is INFINITELY better than Dustin the f***ing Turkey. I do think we need to go for a serious ballad, but one that evokes some kind of emotion! There is a reason we came top 5 in 2009 and that's because it was a good, well sang, emotion grabbing ballad. Novelty is NEVER the way to go for us, leave that for Eastern Europe who do it extremely well. When are we finding out who's competing in this? Soon ;)

January 15, 20178 yr I think a "professional" jury stake is a good move. BBC2 is more viewers... But it's also more likely votes for the token "trashy' song (if there is one, which wouldn't surprise me) as casual viewers will stumble on it off the cuff. I genuinely think there will be at least one familiar face there. I'm amazed the rumour mill has barely moved up to now...
January 17, 20178 yr I feel like we are going to have one "omg" moment next Monday, I'm still not ruling out Emmelie actually singing her own song. Sounds INCREDIBLY bizarre but she is having so many meetings/spending so much time in London at the moment for someone who is supposedly just a songwriter of one of our six songs. Her song has been "confirmed" to have been on the final 15 shortlist, so assuming the song did make the final 6 - perhaps they were looking for an artist to sing it and asked Emmelie to sing it herself and she... accepted? It's a bizarre theory but I'm not 100% ruling it out. (Or she could just be another special guest but would the BBC give a competitor even if they are just a songwriter that extra airtime?) Emmelie is definitely going to have more of a part than just a songwriter I'm sure of it! Corinne Bailey Rae and a few unknowns are names that have been bounced around on Digital Spy.
