Halloween V Entry (October 2024)

Host City: Ug, Sovarasma

==============================

Artist: SWARM

Song: Consumed

Origin: 🇺🇸 USA

Industrial Electronic artist SWARM from Florida, USA, is known for his collaborations with artists like Varien & Lucille Croft, as well as support from artists such as Porter Robinson, Black Tiger Sex Machine, Lektrique and Sullivan King. His music often combines haunting melodies, heavy bass, and intense soundscapes, creating an immersive experience that feels both dystopian and emotional. Lyrically, his work often explores themes of inner struggle, mental health, and existential darkness.

Consumed is a powerful, brooding track that masterfully blends heavy electronic beats with haunting orchestral elements. The song creates an atmosphere of intensity and emotional turmoil, driven by pulsating bass and eerie, cinematic soundscapes. The dark, gritty production perfectly complements the song’s theme of inner conflict and emotional destruction.

==============================

Artist: Magic Affair

Song: Energy Of Light

Origin: 🇩🇪 Germany

Magic Affair is a German eurodance project that originated in Frankfurt, Germany in 1994, formed by ex-Mysterious Art DJ/producer Mike Staab, comprising singer Franca Morgano and rapper A.K. Swift were the project's initial front members. In 1995, original members were replaced by singers Jannet De Lara and Anita Davis. To date, the project has sold 2.5 million records in Germany and over 8 million records worldwide. While their success was somewhat short-lived, they left an indelible mark on the genre with their distinct style and memorable hits, making them a staple in any nostalgic Eurodance playlist.

Energy Of Light is a vibrant, high-energy track that showcases the group’s consistency in delivering crowd-pleasing dance music. Released in 1996, it combines upbeat rhythms with catchy melodic hooks and energizing female vocals, typical of Magic Affair’s style. '

In an untapped spin-off contest, Zanmatony (stylised Zomatobie in this contest) attempted a heavy electronic piece, with dubstep elements, and some scary sounding vocals. It was received quite well by a handful of participants, making it the 19th place finishing entry out of 33. However, only five participants voted for it, so perhaps not the best piece for a contest like this.

Zomatobie's casted votes looked like this for this contest;

+12 Pharmakon – Nakedness of Need {Aeroche} [5th]

+10 Lingua Ignota – Woe To All (On The Day Of My Wrath) {Scotland 2} [6th]

+8 Spirits Unbridled – DESCENT INTO DESPAIR {Terra Avium} [16th]

Thank you to our excellent hosts from Sovarasma for hosting this event.

For the seventh time in Zanmatony's history, and second time in 2024, our chosen entry finished 23rd in the semi final, meaning no qualification was achieved. We chose to go retro this time with a 90's eurodance song but it did not resonate with enough of the voting participants, however, we were able to receive a gold medal from Dobago and a bronze medal from Ben's Sanctuary, so this was appreciated.

The semi final votes that were cast by Zanmatony were as follows;

+12 Wail Bouri & Idd Aziz – Jogolo {Sovarasma} [QUALIFIED]

+10 twocolors & ÁSDÍS – Gravity {Hushkanukia} [QUALIFIED]

+8 Blank & Jones – Beyond Time {Ben's Sanctuary} [QUALIFIED]

+3 No – Drive Faster {Bronzil} [QUALIFIED]

+2 Lightheaded – Mercury Girl {Suedeonia} [DID NOT QUALIFY]

+1 Elkka – Make Me {Skall} [QUALIFIED]

BJSC 170 Entry* (November 2024)

Host City: Terra Mammalia, Terra Avium

*As at this contest, this is the 50th appearance by Zanmatony in BJSC.

==============================

Artist: RIKKI

Song: Suteki Da Ne

Origin: 🇯🇵 Japan

RIKKI is a Japanese folk singer, born in Amami Oshima, Japan. She began to sing traditional Japanese folk music when she was four years old. Later, at the age of 15, RIKKI was the youngest winner ever to win the "Grand Prix" of the Japanese traditional folk music awards (known as All Japan Minyo awards). She first performed in Tokyo, Japan, at the prestigious Festival Konda Lota in 1992. She released her first single 満天の星 (Maten no Hoshi, which means "Sky Full of Stars") in December 1993, originally released in the Kyushu region of Japan. Shortly thereafter, she produced her debut album, 風の声 (Kaze no Koe).

RIKKI is widely known by gamers as the singer of the Final Fantasy X main theme, 素敵だね (Suteki Da Ne, which is translated to English as "Isn't It Wonderful?"). One reason why Nobuo Uematsu and Kazushige Nojima chose her to perform Suteki Da Ne is that she is very famous in Japan as a traditional folk singer and they believed that her voice is rather nice and gentle, and that her voice has a higher pitch than the voices of mainstream Japanese singers. RIKKI was 26 years old at the time of Final Fantasy X's release.

Original Release Date: 18th July, 2001

Zanmatony's 50th Anniversary Celebration

To mark 50 contests in the BuzzJack Song Contest (BJSC), Zanmatony have gone back to their roots and rediscovered their love for Final Fantasy X; a role-playing video game originally released in 2001 by Square. It was the inspiration behind this nation's name, Zanmatony, for the game contains various main characters and aeons. One such aeon appears as a powerful samurai called Yojimbo who stands tall with a dog named Daigoro. Yojimbo has four different attacks. His most powerful attack, Zanmato, instantly kills fiends and bosses. It is effective and rewarding to progress through the game. Yojimbo has been our national mascot since the beginning and up until now has been the Zanmatonese national anthem.

The soundtrack to this game is one that Zanmatony have chosen to revisit for this anniversary edition, and the music is very moving and emotional, and we are happy to share with the Buzzverse for this special occasion.

Zanmatony celebrates it's 50th anniversary in style with an 8th qualifier of the year. With our choice of anniversary entry being rather niche, it was hit or miss if a qualification would be found, but thankfully it was, and we could enjoy our 32nd final in BJSC. Not quite a unique finishing position in the final this time, however it was a unique qualifying position in the semi final. Terra Avium were our hosts this month, and each nation was assigned a unique mammal as their mascot... ours was a rat.

Zanmatony's semi final votes were as follows;

+12 Beyond The Black – Is There Anybody Out There? {Summericia} [QUALIFIED]

+10 Kai Bosch – Everything Is Beautiful {Thelonia} [QUALIFIED]

+8 Faux Real – Rent Free {Neliönoir} [QUALIFIED]

+7 Weather Systems – Untouchable Part 3 {Rolloland} [QUALIFIED]

+6 Chloé Caillet & SG Lewis – B Somebody {Kluminican Republic} [QUALIFIED]

+5 Imane El Halouat – Ally {Persephonia} [DID NOT QUALIFY]

+4 Grace Davies – Another Night {Ajanaeda} [QUALIFIED]

+3 JACOTÉNE – Stop Calling {Lookylion} [QUALIFIED]

+2 Social Order – Miss You {Cumulonimbia} [QUALIFIED]

+1 Blankenberge – New Rules {Utopia} [QUALIFIED]

The final votes of Zanmatony for 2024 looked like this;

+18 Beyond The Black – Is There Anybody Out There? {Summericia} [28th]

+15 Weather Systems – Untouchable Part 3 {Rolloland} [29th]

+13 Chloé Caillet & SG Lewis – B Somebody {Kluminican Republic} [3rd]

+12 Sara Landry & Shlømo – Play With Me {Cadelicia} [41st]

+11 Kai Bosch – Everything Is Beautiful {Thelonia} [31st]

+10 CMAT – Where Are Your Kids Tonight? (feat. John Grant) {Cheiron} [4th]

+9 Grace Davies – Another Night {Ajanaeda} [7th]

+8 Leftfield – Full Way Round (Ewan McVicar Remix) (feat. Grian Chatten) {Aeroche} [2nd]

+7 JACOTÉNE – Stop Calling {Lookylion} [40th]

+6 Faux Real – Rent Free {Neliönoir} [30th]

+5 No Mana & SOFI – Digital Friends {Cor Lupus} [16th]

+4 Becca Hatch – Think Of You {POPHub} [20th]

+3 Diskoria & Danilla – Flamboyanku {Eastovka} [37th]

+2 Jackson Sisters – I Believe In Miracles {Singerpurear} [23rd]

+1 Social Order – Miss You {Cumulonimbia} [22nd]

We didn't point the eventual winners from Kathaldazia this time around due to our interests being elsewhere, but we were glad they got a win this year.

Hopefully this can do well Wardy. Just checked and instantly recognise it via my sister being into the Final Fantasy games so will have heard it around the house. It's a sweet piece!

I'd be shocked if this doesn't qualify Wardy!

Thank you Summericia and Cheiron for your support, it was certainly needed to secure a qualification, and we enjoyed both your entries very much too! :)

BJSC 171 Entry (January 2025)

Host Country: Kathaldazia

==============================

Artist: Heidi Montag

Song: 5G [Only Fire Remix]

Origin: 🇺🇸 USA

Heidi Montag is an American reality television personality and recording artist from Los Angeles, California, USA. She is known for appearing on the MTV reality series The Hills, which began airing in 2006. In February 2007, she started work on an album with producer David Foster. Her debut album, Superficial, on which she worked with notable talents including L.P., Cathy Dennis, Stacy Barthe, Steve Morales, and Dave Pensado, has become a cult classic. On January 7, 2025, Heidi and her husband Spencer Pratt lost their home in the Pacific Palisades fire.

5G is a fun, nostalgic nod to the late 2000s pop era, showcasing Heidi Montag’s enduring presence in the music industry. The track, which features hyperpop artist 6arelyhuman on the radio edit, delivers a high-energy, club-ready sound reminiscent of early 2010s pop, with some listeners likening it to vintage Kesha demos. It packs a punch with its catchy beat and playful lyrics. The remix by Only Fire contains their signature electronic flair and has garnered positive feedback from listeners.

Hello 2025, we are off to a strong start to the year with not just a qualifying entry, but also a Top 20 entry in the final, courtesy of Heidi Montag who has recently garnered some media attention following the tragic wildfires in California. +12 ALT BLK ERA – Hunt You Down {Cor Lupus} [QUALIFIED]

Artist: Francis Mercier & Boukman Eksperyans

Song: Imamou

Origin: 🇭🇹 Haiti

Francis Mercier is a DJ and producer originally from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He is currently based in New York City. He is the co-founder of Deep Root Records and has gained international recognition for his unique sound, which fuses traditional African, Caribbean, and electronic elements. He has collaborated with artists like Blond:ish, Major Lazer, and Black Coffee, and his tracks have been supported by top DJs worldwide.

Boukman Eksperyans is a a mizik rasin band from the city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. They were founded by Lolo Beaubrun and his wife Mimerose. Their music is deeply political and spiritual, often addressing themes of social justice, Haitian history, and Vodou culture. The band’s name is inspired by Boukman Dutty, a Vodou priest who played a key role in the Haitian Revolution.

Imamou stands as a testament to Mercier’s commitment to his Haitian roots and his ability to merge cultural heritage with contemporary electronic music. This reimagined version of Boukman Eksperyans’ 1998 song Imamou Lele honors Haitian Flag Day and reflects on Haiti’s political challenges. The track features steady beats, uplifting pads, pulsing synths, piano chords, and a dynamic low-end, resulting in a powerful and emotive listening experience. In conjunction with the release, Mercier launched a fundraiser supporting Ayiti Demen, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Haiti by encouraging and supporting local communities.

BJSC 173 Entry (March 2025)

Host Country: Kluminican Republic

==============================

Artist: Goldie vs. Ulterior Motive feat. Natalie Williams

Song: I Adore You

Origin: 🇬🇧 UK

Goldie is a British DJ and pioneer of the jungle and drum'n'bass genres and has helped to promote these styles globally. He has been releasing music since the early 90s and has released a variety of singles under the pseudonym Rufige Kru and co-founded the label Metalheadz. He later released several albums under his own name, including the 1995 album Timeless, which entered the UK charts at number 7.

Bounemouth-based production duo Ulterior Motive joined forces in 2003 when they discovered a mutual passion for the kind of funky, technical and futuristic drum & bass pioneered by Ed Rush & Optical in the late-90s. Taking this as inspiration, they worked hard to forge a sound of their own by combining custom hand-built studio kit with modern production techniques before tentatively reaching out with early demos. The response was immediate and Ulterior Motive tracks have since become a staple for the very best selectors in the scene.

Natalie Williams is a female singer-songwriter, from the UK, whose style is a blend of vocal jazz, soul and R&B. She has 9 critically acclaimed albums under her belt and a dedicated following that extends throughout the world. Being at the helm of the most successful residency of a world renowned music venue is a feat to be admired. Natalie Williams’ Soul Family Sundays has had a monthly residency at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club for the past 17 years, selling out regularly every single month and having played to over 40 thousand very enthusiastic soul music lovers over those years…

I Adore You is both haunting and uplifting, making it a memorable listen for anyone who enjoys a mix of electronic and emotional soundscapes. The track stands out with its smooth, atmospheric production, which perfectly complements the heartfelt lyrics that arouses feelings of love and longing from the shared collective consciousness of the human spirit. The music video's telling narrative brings the pulsating drums and melodic vocals into syncopated harmony, as sight and sound becomes one cohesive lesson in compassion.

🌊 ZANMATONY

"Trance Is the Compass."

📍 Terminal B, Gate 04
🛫 Launched: BJSC 89
🌐 Destinations Served: 55
🎶 Current Oceanic Route: “Seven Cities (Solar Stone’s Atlantis Mix)” by Solarstone

Zanmatony doesn’t follow paths — it follows pulses. Since BJSC 89, its 55 horizon-melting flights have navigated with trance as both engine and anchor.

“Seven Cities” isn’t just a remix — it’s a mythological current. Takeoff occurs somewhere between breath and bass drop.

Cabins are misted with sea salt and basslines. Window views appear tidal. Seatbelt signs pulse with BPM.

No one claps upon landing — but everyone arrives transformed.

🌌 Fun Fact: In-flight snacks include stardust crackers and silence.
