Lisa Tucker took a big risk with her song choice this week on "American Idol."

 

The show's judges felt that risk did not yield much of a reward.

 

The Anaheim teen's rendition of Kelly Clarkson's hit "Because of You" earned her the most critical comments from the judges yet. Simon Cowell went so far as to call it "painful."

 

Before performing Tucker explained why she chose the song.

 

"As soon as I heard this song it was in my CD player on repeat," said the Kennedy High School senior. "(Kelly Clarkson) was such a huge inspiration for me to audition for the show, so I hope I do her proud."

 

Even the usually enthusiastic Paula Abdul had a hard time giving Tucker positive comments.

 

"There's no doubt you can sing your butt off. That's the truth," said Abdul. "But when you take a song that is so popular, especially from a girl who started and got her whole career started from this show, you've got to take a twist on the song and make it completely different so there is no comparison whatsoever."

 

Cowell took matters a bit further and cut straight to the point.

 

"The truth is, Lisa, that song was too big for your voice," said Cowell. "There were parts during the performance where it was actually painful. It just didn't work."

 

Host Ryan Seacrest asked Tucker if is she was aware of the risk factor in singing that song.

 

"Oh definitely," Tucker said. "I was thinking, 'No guts, no glory.' I went for it."

 

Tucker will find out if her big risk paid off when voting results are announced tonight. The show airs at 9 p.m. on KTTV/11. Special guest stars Shakira and Wyclef Jean will be performing their latest single, "Hips Don't Lie," during the show.

 

 

Lisa is my favourite contestant and i hope that the preformance wasn't too bad, i can't wait to watch this.

ouch i just watched her singing boy ans she really did murder it, it just proves how hard the song is to sing and how good of a singer kelly is.

Shakira's hips don't lie appeared in the uk press today, im quite shocked.

one of my friends step uncle is Wyclef the guy that rapped with Shakira! She had a picture at their christmas dinner to prove it!

Lisa was definatly the worst performer of the night, and looking back Katherine wasnt actually that good, sorry Ally! I think that Kellie and Paris were very good, and Chris was alright too!
