August 15, 20177 yr I was actually willing to give this a shot but the reviews weren't exactly wrong to be honest. It had its moments, I especially liked all the online humour which made me smirk a few times, things like 'bye felicia!' and the spam/Trojan horse characters were fun gags but a lot of the comedy didn't land. The forced love story felt a bit awkward too, they didn't really have much of a connection at all which made it feel way more forced than it should have been - it was also hard to not cringe when watching them use lyrics to Rihanna's Diamonds in an unironic love letter  Eh, there are just so many better animated movies with heart and humour that really move you and you become attached to the characters. This really lacked in those areas and therefore it did ultimately feel like a cheap cash grab with no passion put into making it :(
August 17, 20177 yr I really enjoyed it tbh, there weren't loads of laughs sure but I thought there were decent sight gags and it was a fun way to pass 90 minutes. Really liked the introduction to their world and the Lupita joke stands out as one that did actually make me LOL. Can look past the product placement too because I just enjoyed seeing stuff like Candy Crush, Spotify and Just Dance in a form like this, having used them all before :') (the use of Pitbull/Christina Aguilera "Feel This Moment" was another highlight ) Seen better movies this year but I also unashamedly got more enjoyment out of this than a fair number of critically acclaimed movies :P
