You were very generous when it comes to Inferno. I was so disappointed with it.

The book was great, but the movie just didn't compare. It was also very, very different.

Seeing as you enjoyed it, you really need to see Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons. I love them both. The books are of course far superior though.

Zootropolis THAT LOW????? No Josh. No. (x)

Ghostbusters & Dirty Grandpa are far too underrated so fab to see them both pop up! <3

Me Before You/Bad Moms/5th Wave/How To Be Single/Dory are my other recent highlights! Adore all 5 films so great to see none of them too low down!

I was tempted to buy the book after seeing the film and even put it in my Amazon shopping list  I will have to pick it up sometime and catch up on the other movies too!

Thanks for commenting Paul! :D

I know, I think a lot of people will disapprove of my Zootropolis position but I do prefer a lot of the musical/princess Disney films

It's getting so difficult saying goodbye to these films so anything now I pretty much loved, glad you're enjoying it!

Thanks for commenting Sam :D

Zootropolis is awesome.

It is indeed, I do love everything that is dropping out now, just some more than others

31. Now You See Me 2

These movies have been a lot of fun recently, not the most coherent plots or anything but I've had a great time watching both so I'm glad the foreign box office saved this movie pretty much. The magic tricks are loads of fun to watch (even though, in this they got a bit silly and just impossible, like the rain going back up?!?!) and the stars in the movie really pull them off. I like Isla Fisher a lot but I thought Lizzy Caplan was very likeable in this and a good swap even though it would have been nice to keep Isla. Overall, an enjoyble movie much like the first one and you can't but have a good time.

32. The Nice Guys

I really wasn't expecting to like this film as much as I ended up doing so but was full of laughs. I loved the retro style of the film too and all the scenery made the film even more fun. Both the leads were hilarious, Gosling especially though, him falling off the top of the building when overacting had me in stitches and them chucking the dead body into the dinner party did too. I haven't seen it since it was at the cinema but I would love to see it again sometime soon. Also yay at a certain part of the poster being very eye-catching

33. Truth

At first, this seemed like it might have been a contender for awards during last years awards season but unfortunately it wasn't. Cate was fully deserving of her nomination in Carol but it's a shame she couldn't be nominated twice because her performance in this was another of my favourite from last year. Much like Spotlight still to come, there was a lot of appeal to seeing how a journalist team works together and how a news story comes about. It was also crazy seeing how not fact-checking thoroughly can cause such massive consequences for those involved, you really sympathise with Mary Mapes because you can see why she took the story and ran with it. A shame this wasn't seen by more people :(

34. Bad Neighbours 2

The first film was a fantastic comedy so I was really pleased when a sequel was announced with all the same cast, all of them are so hilarious so it's hard to pick a highlight but Rose Byrne would probably be it for me, she can effortlessly pull off comedy so well and Zac is turning into a real comedic talent too. The airbag scenes had me laughing a lot in the first film but they were even more hilarious here, Seth Rogen being shot straight into the door had me uncontrollably laughing  Such a fun film and the sorority was a great addition too, shame it didn't make loads at the box office so we probably won't get a trilogy from it :(

35. Bastille Day

There is no way that I was expecting this film to be so high on my EOY whatsoever, especially as I've said before that I'm usually not so keen on action thrillers. I ended up having such a fun time watching it though and all the action was great, I love Idris chasing Richard on the roof-top, thought that was a great scene. The comedy was also spot-on which is what made it more enjoyable for me than the likes of Bourne and Jack Reacher, Richard Madden is really likeable and both leads have the charisma to pull off some great jokes. This is another one I haven't seen since it came out but I'd love to see it again and would definitely recommend it if you haven't seen it, I don't think many people really did. :( In fact, I think it's one of the few mainstream movies to not even get a thread of its own here :o

26. The Light Between Oceans

I'm still a bit gutted that this film got poor reviews and ran out of awards momentum because at the very least, Vikander/Fassbender/Weisz probably all deserve Oscar nominations this year but now they've pretty much got no chance. My only slight problem with it being a little on the slow slide but there were so many highlights and heart-breaking moments that I didn't mind. Vikander was my highlight as usual, she's amazing in pretty much everything but I was really tearing up at her more emotional scenes. It's such an interesting plot too so even in the slow moments, you're able to think about what you would do in that situation so I was never really bored. Got the book for Christmas and I know Jahq recommends it so I'm looking forward to reading it.

27. Bridget Jones's Baby

Still not the highest comedy in the count down but this has done really well in my EOY, especially seeing as I haven't seen the first two films so didn't really have any familiarity with the role! Renée Zellweger, of course, did a great job with her now iconic character but I think my highlights were pretty much anything that came out of Emma Thompson's or Sarah Solemani's mouth, the latter's interview scenes being especially hilarious! I also remember 'CUE THE f***ING WEATHER' having me in stitches when watching this too. It was great joke after great joke so definitely one of my comedy highlights of the year.

28. Moana

One of my favourite animated films of the year (although there are a still a couple to come), Moana is an excellent addition to the Disney Princesses franchise. It has everything you want and have come to expect from a Disney musical, likeable characters, a fun plot and some very catchy tunes (I've fallen in love with You're Welcome and How Far I'll Go since watching this film). The visuals have really come along so rapidly in most animated films now and this was no exception, the water especially was breath-taking.

29. Trolls

Upon seeing the first trailer for this, I don't think many people were expecting this to be as enjoyable as it actually was but there is pretty much no way you can hate this movie, it is pure fun from the get-go and the fun doesn't end until the end credits! There was so much colour, catchy musical numbers, funny jokes and characters and I just had a massive smile on my face for the whole runtime. Both Branch and Poppy were so charming, much like their real-life voice counterparts and Bridget was such a cute character too. Get Back Up Again must be one of the most fun musical numbers in years!

30. Spotlight

Not one of my favourite awards contenders from last year, in fact, a couple are still left to come (Joy, The Danish Girl, Room etc). but it was a very important story to be told and I am glad it was executed so well. The moment that the seemingly never-ending list of towns with known paedophiles at the end just had everyone in the theatre completely quiet and in shock. The acting was excellent too, Mark Ruffalo especially who had the best moment in the film with his explosive monologue towards the end, I wish he had won the Oscar over the other Mark R from last year :(

I liked Bad Neighbours 2, but not as much as its predecessor.

Moana and The Nice Guys have caught my attention. Have to see them someday!

I agree that the first one was definitely better but I still had a laugh with this one.

I would definitely recommend them both, Moana has a great soundtrack too

Thanks Dalek!

The Light Between Trolls, Moana and Trolls are all incredible! <3 Fab to see them all so high here, all three in my top 10 of 2016
I hope we will get a list or a count down from you too Sam, would love to see how things rank for you!

Now that crossover would be interesting to see :kink:

I would watch it

21. Nocturnal Animals

I was hyped for this going into it anyway but it did completely shock me at how good this actually was. The novel side of the plot was incredibly thrilling to watch, some of the tensest moments in cinema from last year and Aaron Taylor-Johnson deserves a lot of the credit for that. I liked Michael Shannon a lot in the movie too and he had a touching plot of his own too but I'm glad Kick-ass himself is getting all of the awards hype now, hoping he does get nominated at the Oscars! The Amy Adams side of the story was also interesting and one of her better roles in the past few years imo, shame she can't be nominated twice in the awards  I liked reading all of the interesting interpretations on the ending too, definitely made for a good cliffhanger ending.

22. Joy

I liked this film a lot on first viewing anyway but it has grown a lot on repeated viewings too, it has a similar charm to is as Silver Linings Playbook where you sort of fall in love with the dysfunctional characters. It doesn't beat that film for me but I must say, I do think I prefer this to American Hustle now. Jennifer Lawrence was the huge highlight in this, another excellent performance to add to the list. My favourite scenes were the QVC scene where starts getting all the call-ups and the scene near the end where she struts down the street with her new hair-do and shades after finding the legal loophole. I also really liked Bradley Cooper's character a lot too, he always improves pretty much any movie and it was nice seeing him pop up here too.

23. Arrival

As much as I like big blockbuster space movies, it is nice when a really intelligent and thought-provoking sci-fi comes along and blows a lot of people away. It completely blew my mind when Amy was like 'who's that girl? I don't understand' and everything starts to fall into place, the ending of this is one of my favourite's of the year, so unexpected but in hindsight there were all sorts of hints that the weapon was actually

a gift

. I was never once bored and found it so interesting how they were able to converse with the aliens and translate what they were saying. I liked Amy Adams a lot in this but yeah, of the two, I do wish Nocturnal Animals was getting the recognition for her. If she does get one (which I think she will now), six Oscar nominations is not bad at all! :drama:

24. Passengers

So yeah, this may have had some big plot holes and a bit of a creepy storyline but overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit and thought it was a nice little story. The world-building was probably my favourite thing about the movie, the spaceship looked like the coolest thing ever and who wouldn't want to be a passengers on it?!? The two leads and their copious amounts of charisma was also a big reason I enjoyed the movie so much, they had great chemistry and were very likeable too. Not a massively memorable film or anything but really enjoyable, so tense scenes and some funny jokes too, what's not to like really?

25. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

This was a fun movie although a little on the long side, my mind was wandering just a tad in the middle but it picked up again for the end. All the actors were having a lot of fun, especially Samuel L Jackson who was pretty hilarious to watch in this. It reminded me a bit of a children's version of the X-men but none of the super powers are all that useful  I loved the really strong little girl though, she was pretty hilarious! I also really liked the ending with the Hollows in the snow and how they managed to figure out where they were, would watch a sequel for sure but not sure if it made enough at the Box Office to qualify for one really.

It actually might. It made $285 million worldwide on a budget of $110 million. So it did well. It fared far better internationally than in the US ($198m vs $98m).

Yeah, I guess it just wasn't as big as other YA adaptations and it feels a bit like the YA fad is over already, I imagine it still made a strong profit for them though!

Thanks Paul :D

16. Star Trek: Beyond

I had never actually even seen a Star Trek movie before this so I didn't really know what to expect when going into this but I really, really enjoyed it! I should probably watch the rest of this trilogy and some of the older Star Trek classics too off the back of this but just haven't found the time yet. My main highlights were the special effects and action scenes (I loved all of the little spaceships as well as the introduction to Yorktown and the motorbike distraction scene) and the characters too who are all very likeable (Chris Pine has so much charisma, Simon Pegg is hilarious and even Sofia Boutella had a great character here and was also really funny)! I really do hope we get a sequel despite diminishing box office returns, especially if the rumours that Chris Hemsworth has signed up are true

17. Sausage Party

So my highest animation of the entire year ended up being one that is most certainly not a kid's film. Adult comedy Sausage Party got a lot of attention earlier in the year for its hilarious trailer earlier in the year and the film ended up being a real hoot too. I was already laughing in the first couple of minutes with the jokes killing the juice and the buns singing about slipping in a sausage. The Great Beyond is one of the funniest songs in a long time and a great beginning to the film  All the food puns were hilarious and the jokes kept on coming thick and fast so it was definitely one of the funnier comedies I've seen in a while.

18. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

Not one of my favourite superhero movies of the last year but there were loads of fun moments and I still enjoyed it a lot. I do prefer the lighter tones of the Marvel movies I think in comparison to the darker vibes of the DCEU movies overall so I can't put this much higher really. I quite liked all the characters, I don't if it's just because I really like Henry Cavill but Superman was fun and Wonder Woman was also incredibly badass in the short moments she got, I'm very excited for her solo movie this year so I hope it doesn't disappoint! The action scenes were well choreographed, despite not being very long, the Batman vs Superman fight itself was cool and had some great moments like Superman stopping a bullet which was really cool. Overall, I was a little disappointed but I still got some great action scenes from it so it's kept me hyped for more from the DCEU.

19. Kubo and the Two Strings

I don't think that many people saw this on here and it wasn't really much of a box office success at all which is a huge shame as it was a really gorgeous film. I've pretty much hated everything I've seen from Laika before this so I was a bit worried for how it was going to turn out but I was massively surprised. The art style still isn't totally for me but I think it really worked here and the majority of it flowed quite nicely, especially the origami parts which had me in awe watching them. Story wise, it hit all of the right emotional marks and the characters helped to make those moments even better, my jaw dropped when the 'two strings' bit clicked with me and I thought that was really clever. The sister villains were also petrifying and therefore so good to watch, the way the masks, voices and maniacal laughing all came together really made them great characters. A shame this was such an overlooked film but hopefully it'll get an animated feature Oscar nomination on Tuesday!

20. Eye in the Sky

Not a film that was really on my radar until watching it but I recall it doing quite well at the UK box office for a few weeks and got some really good reviews too. I was expecting yet another dull war thriller but it ended up being way more tense and way more heart-breaking than I expected. I was gripped right from the beginning with following the little girl's life and it really built up well, the last half an hour was so incredibly intense. I'm also glad they didn't shy away from a sad ending and it was one of the films that made the most teary from the past year so I'm glad it was so well received here even if it didn't get much attention worldwide.

I really do hope we get a sequel despite diminishing box office returns, especially if the rumours that Chris Hemsworth has signed up are true

He was already in the 1st movie, playing Pine's dad, George Kirk. If you liked Beyond you'll love the first 2, as it's definitely the worst one.

Oh, I didn't even know that as I haven't seen them, will definitely have to catch up on them sometime!

Sausage Party isn't my favourite animation of the year but it was really funny so I'm happy to see it beat out Kubo here.

Eye In The Sky was amazing, one of the biggest surprises of the year for me, real edge of the seat stuff. What a high for Alan Rickman to go out on, live-action wise. (My mum didn't enjoy it because she thought it felt "too real" which I guess is true but I try not to think like that).

(Will try to go back and comment on more individual movies later when I'm not on break at work, fallen behind a bit)
