Andy gets to stay at No.1 for another week after Rafa's defeat - equalling the 40 weeks Nastasie is on. After all that's went wrong for Murray this year, that was my only hope - that he could beat Nasty's record.

Murray has been an awful world #1 so far, it seems to be more about how long it'll be before he drops back down rather than how much he'll extend his points lead in the rankings.

Nadal retakes number 1 from next week, Federer could of took it but has pulled out of Cincinnati. Murray down to 2, but Federer just behind

Be an interesting start to 2018 if Murray calls time on this season like Djokovic and Wawrinka have.

Maria Sharapova has been given a wildcard for the US Open.

What do you make of this?

Personally I dont think she should get wildcard into main, let her go through qualies if anything.. but on other hand they missing Djokovic, Wawrinka and Nishikori from mens and Serena, Azarenka and Stosur from womens and with few more withdrawing to come yet I reckon so they be needing some press

The US Open always gives wildcards to previous winners of the tournament. She's served her ban, they'd need to not give wildcards to any ex-winner if they were going to single out Sharapova.

Raonic joins the list of absent top male players from US Open.

Laura Robson lost first round of qualifying as did Brydan Klein but wins for Cam Norrie, Naomi Broady and Katie Boulter

Kyle Edmund doing well into the semi finals of Winston, good chance of a final.

Norrie, Broady and Boulter all into final Q round for the US Open playing about 4pm and 8pm UK time

Halep and Sharapova have drawn each other in the first round. That's going to be something.
Hev lost to Cornet, Kyle beat 32nd seed Haase and Cam Norrie beat Tursanov (Retired but led 7/6 6/1)

Shame to see Konta out in three sets and in the first round of the US Open.

I wasn't overly keen on some of Kontas press before the US, it sounded, the way I read it is as if she wasn't expecting much and sounded defeated before first round. It could just be total misinterpretation by me though but it was just the way I read it. Still not totally surprising Krunic won she got to 4th round 3 years ago taking out Keys and Kvitova on the way so has form.

Sharapova beating Halep was no surprise, not sure why it is even being called a shock. Its not as if Maria hasn't trained and had practice matches and played since was banned, she will of trained constant just not played big tournaments. Think Halep destined to never reach #1 she has had loads of chances but everytime does she gets beat in finals etc, I personally am not keen on her but not overly keen of Pliskova either. Muguruza number 1 would be welcomed though and earned

Ferrer seems to of had his day losing in first round and dropped down rankings a lot lately.

What on Earth happened to Konta? I think Maria beating Halep does count as a surprise - I know a lot of people who were doubting her fitness and she is lacking in practice no matter what. Halep could have won that match.

Seen some surprise about Watson losing to Cornet but I don't at all get where that's coming from. Cornet's ranked higher and is actually competent on hard courts. Watson's never been past the first round here.

From what I can gather Jo's serve went very awol and Krunic took momentum and did what she did to Keys and Kvitova used the power to her advantage, she also thrived on the crowd who filtered in and started to fill out the court half way through the match.

Yeah Watson losing was no surprise to me either she has not beaten Cornet and Cornet is a good player, Heather always seems to do good for a few months then nothing, she seems to get going and the just hits a wall she showed a lot of potential and since winning Us Juniors hasn't won a match there since

Konta got to the Top 10 in the world and was there for a little bit, without getting too much press.

I think she is now getting lots of buzz and press and I am wondering if she is struggling with living up to expectations, especially after her amazing Wimbledon run this year.

Didn't see the Sharapova v Halep match. What sort of reaction did Sharapova get from the crowd when she came out?

Defending champ Kerber follows Halep out the Us losing 6/3 6/1 to Osaka.

I think Sharapova welcome was quite warm from what I read
