Kyle Edmund through to 3rd round for second year running took out Steve Johnson in straight sets and his next opponent isn't the expected Tsonga who was taken out by the very talented Shapalov who beat Kyle at queens and defaulted the Davis Cup tie by hitting ball and it hitting umpire in eye.

Seeds seem to be dropping like flies on both sides yesterday...

Mens we lost: Tsonga, Kyrgios, A.Zverev, Gasquet, Muller, Cuevas, Ramos-Vimalos, Fognini

Womens we lost: Wozniacki, Lucic-Baroni, Cibulkova, Peng, Mladonovic, Pavlyuchenkova, Kontavett

Sharapova came through in three sets, bottom half of her draw opened up and reckon she will have a decent run and the mens half with Cilic in has opened up as well with Tsonga and Zverev going out

Certainly the young pretenders shining and causing the upsets at the moment.

Berdych fell last night as well although injured. Nadal through in 4 and Federer again scraped through in 5 sets, I think he be out with a harder opponent.

Kuznetsova fell in the womens as did Strycova and Gavrilova from the seeds

Serena giving birth to a baby girl during Venus match.

Congrats.

Cilic and Isner fall out of the draw as does Kyle Edmund who was battling injury at start of third set.

The highest ranked male at bottom side of draw is Carreno-Busta!

Nadal and Federer through to fourth round, Federer in 3 sets easier than previous matches, Goffin, Del Potro, Thiem all through the top half of the mens draw is packed compared to bottom half.

Pliskova came through in 3 sets again, more surviving then stamping authority. Vandeweghe took out Radwanska and Kasakatina took out Ostapenko, Svitolina and Madison Keys also through

Wow, completely wide open other side to the Men's straight the way to the final (against presumably Rafa or Roger). Put Querrey as the favourite there though, think he's the only one who's even made it past the Quarters of a Slam before?

Carreno Busta got to QF of French I believe..

Sharapova lost in three sets, venus came through in three and shock of night was Muguruza going out

Yeah I reckon thats the highlight I think Del Potro may win it he been very good lately.

Pliskova totally blasted Brady 6/1 6/0 in 46mins and Nadal just took out Dolgopolov 6/2 6/4 6/1

Goffin 2 sets down to Rublev which is surprising

Well Del Potro did it came back from 2 sets down to win in 5, he even said he nearly retired in 2nd set as felt couldn't breathe, no such luck for Goffin though went out in three. Madison Keys taking out #4 Svitolina puts 4 US women into the last 8, we could in theory have an all US semi and final if they all win their Quarters

That's incredible! :o When was the last time there were four players of the same nationality into the last eight of any Grand Slam, let alone a home Slam?!

2002 was best for US women at the US Open when Venus, Serena, Davenport, Capriati and Seles all got to last 8... unsure of rest

Impressive! I just checked and the last was 4 Russians in the quarters of Australian 2009! Three of them got to semis but all were trumped by...Serena  :D

Murray's out for the rest of the season. Next time we'll see him on court is a charity match against Federer followed by Brisbane in 2018 season.

I think it's for the best, I'm not a huge fan of his but it was an utter embarrassment having him as world #1 from Wimbledon until the week before the US (and I think it's ridiculously unprofessional that he allowed himself to be seeded before withdrawing). There's going to be a huge shake up off the top ten for the year end rankings by the look of it!

Loads of players are seeded and pull out either before match or after draw so Murray no different he said he felt ok the few sessions he had at least he didnt do like some and turn up first round go on court then pull out keeping prize money and he no way been an embarrassment being Number 1 from Wimbledon onwards lots of players have been number 1 and injured and hold it due to no other player having consistent enough results to put them close or have nothing to their name major (Dinara Safina rings a bell in the womens side) Murray has been unlucky getting this hip problem after achieving all he did last year. Nadal being number 1 now is basically because everyone else been injured so no real competition for him or to keep their own ranking points up by playing week after week.

In other news Vandeweghe half way into the semis took first set against Pliskova can she make it three out of four americans through and if does will Keys feel pressure of making it an all american Semi and final

Vandeweghe does it knocks out Pliskova 7/6 (7/4) 6/3

Means from after US that Garbine Muguruza will be ladies #1

Pressure on Keys to make it 4/4 Americans into semi finals
