Thanks for all your updates throughout the Open, Mike! :D Pleasing but predictable win for Nadal, I'm glad that he's staying more or less level with Federer for overall Slams, I imagine he will overtake when Roger eventually retires.

 

Out of interest, when was the last time they both won two of the four Slams each in a calendar year?

I don't think that has happened with both Nadal and Federer winning two of the Grand Slams each in a calendar year.

I cant see anything in a calendar year .....but if you cheat haha mid slam season

thats the last I can see where it was Nadal & Federer.. Majority of time is more dominated by one winning 3 of the 4 majors.

 

Its really interesting that both Nadal and Federer have comeback to the top of the game both after taking significant time out... hopefully Murray and Djokovic can go the same way and return to top but with all the young pretenders getting a foothole in and the big 4/5 not really being the dominant force they once was it could be an interesting few years

Another first-round exit for Konta by losing in straight sets to Niculescu by 6-1 6-2.

 

 

Konta certainly lost what she had recently, well since semis at Wimbledon. She currently 8th out of 8 to qualify for end of the year tournament, her main threat was Kuznetsova who also lost first round. Three players could knock her out but will need to win Beijing to do it so a tough ask, although not sure Konta will want to be at the end of year worlds top 8 as she below par.

 

Cameron Norrie won his challenger final yesterday which is good news and moves him to top 150 in world

Konta looking likely missing end of year tournament as Garcia has made it into the final to keep the pressure up and if wins the final will mean Konta will have to reach Moscow final for a chance, Garcia will also move top ten for first time next week, after showing a lot of promise and Andy Murray once saying she is a future number one it seems her potential starting to come through.

Konta has called time on her 2017 season not traveling to be an alternative at Singapore or taking part in the alternative end of year at Zuhai....she has also called time on her coach Wim Fissette.. so another change in coaches we will see what the new season brings in 2018
