Thanks for all your updates throughout the Open, Mike! :D Pleasing but predictable win for Nadal, I'm glad that he's staying more or less level with Federer for overall Slams, I imagine he will overtake when Roger eventually retires.

Out of interest, when was the last time they both won two of the four Slams each in a calendar year?

I don't think that has happened with both Nadal and Federer winning two of the Grand Slams each in a calendar year.

Again many thanks, Mike. For all the updates throughout the Open.

I cant see anything in a calendar year .....but if you cheat haha mid slam season

2008 - Wimbledon - Nadal

2008 - US Open - Federer

2009 - Oz Open - Nadal

2009 - French - Federer

thats the last I can see where it was Nadal & Federer.. Majority of time is more dominated by one winning 3 of the 4 majors.

Its really interesting that both Nadal and Federer have comeback to the top of the game both after taking significant time out... hopefully Murray and Djokovic can go the same way and return to top but with all the young pretenders getting a foothole in and the big 4/5 not really being the dominant force they once was it could be an interesting few years

Another first-round exit for Konta by losing in straight sets to Niculescu by 6-1 6-2.

Konta certainly lost what she had recently, well since semis at Wimbledon. She currently 8th out of 8 to qualify for end of the year tournament, her main threat was Kuznetsova who also lost first round. Three players could knock her out but will need to win Beijing to do it so a tough ask, although not sure Konta will want to be at the end of year worlds top 8 as she below par.

Cameron Norrie won his challenger final yesterday which is good news and moves him to top 150 in world

British number four Dan Evans has been banned for one year (backdated from April) due to testing positive for cocaine.
British number four Dan Evans has been banned for one year (backdated from April) due to testing positive for cocaine.

Should be longer, he really likes to self destruct.

Konta out of Tokyo next week foot injury just a precaution apparently, Only Garcia remains in Beijing but needs to win it to overtake Jo and take the 8th slot for end of year, Jo still down to play Moscow week after Tokyo.

Simona Halep finally achieved world number 1 from Monday.

Konta looking likely missing end of year tournament as Garcia has made it into the final to keep the pressure up and if wins the final will mean Konta will have to reach Moscow final for a chance, Garcia will also move top ten for first time next week, after showing a lot of promise and Andy Murray once saying she is a future number one it seems her potential starting to come through.

Mens side Cameron Norrie who won his second challenger last weekend is into another challenger final today if wins will go top 120

Garcia beat Halep in the final moving into the top ten for first time and over taking Konta for the 8th spot for end of year, meaning konta needs to reach Moscow final to make it, so for the 2nd year running she has missed out on the last spot by a whisker she will be an alternative if someone is injured or pulls out.

Cameron Norrie won his 2nd challenger title in row moving to 111th in rankings.

Nadal beat Kyrgios for the mens tital in Beijing

Konta has withdrawn from Moscow meaning Garcia takes the last spot at Singapore WTA Tour Finals... 8 Qualifiers from 8 countries:

Simona Halep (Romania)

Garbine Muguruza (Spain)

Karolina Pliskova (Czech Republic)

Elina Svitolina (Ukraine)

Venus Williams (USA)

Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia)

Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark)

Caroline Garcia (France)

Sharapova won her first title being back on the tour in Tianjin 7/5 7/6 (10/8) over Sabalenka

Federer won Shanghai over Nadal 6/4 6/3

Konta has called time on her 2017 season not traveling to be an alternative at Singapore or taking part in the alternative end of year at Zuhai....she has also called time on her coach Wim Fissette.. so another change in coaches we will see what the new season brings in 2018

Kyrgios and Berdych add their names to ending their seasons early due to injury. Seems to be year of top players struggling unless you're Federer or Nadal who have both had a good year.

Naomi Broady and Heather Watson both lost in QF's of Luxembourg yesterday, but both had decent wins and points, Naomi especially as she lost in final qualifying round to then get lucky loser spot and couple of wins under her belt

In Las Vegas Liam Broady beat Cam Norrie in a clash of the brits, Liam is currently back inside top 190 for first time in a while and Cam is nearing top 100 at 110

Venus finding the first serve when it matters, that's why she's still competing at the highest level at 37. Incredible player.

So in the Singapore WTA end of year event so far:

White Group

Pliskova BT Venus 6/2 6/2

Muguruza BT Ostapenko 6/3 6/4

Venus BT Ostapenko 7/5 6/7(3/7) 7/5

Pliskova BT Muguruza 6/2 6/2

Ostapenko BT Pliskova 6/3 6/1

Venus BT Muguruza 7/5 6/4

Meaning Venus and Pliskova advance to the semi finals, It also means Muguruza doubtful to end year as world number 1 and Venus will finish top 4 for the year which is amazing

Red Group

Halep BT Garcia 6/4 6/2
Wozniacki BT Svitolina 6/2 6/0
Wozniacki BT Halep 6/0 6/2
Garcia BT Svitolina 6/7(7/9) 6/3 7/5
Garcia BT Wozniacki 0/6 6/3 7/5
Svitolina BT Halep 6/3 6/4

Wozniacki and Garcia advance to semi finals, Halep a disappointment again, means only Pliskova able to take the end of year number 1 but has to win the title otherwise Halep will be it

Semi Final line up

Wozniacki V Pliskova
Venus V Garcia

Edited by Mikee1981

Caroline Wozniacki(6) BT Karolina Pliskova(3) - 7/6(11/9) 6/3

Venus Williams(5) BT Caroline Garcia(8) - 6/7(3/7) 6/2 6/3

Venus beats Martinas record of the oldest person to reach the year end final , Venus is 37, Martina was 36.

Simona Halep finishes the year as world number 1 due to Pliskova being defeated

Final

Caroline Wozniacki V Venus Williams

Wozniack has never beaten Venus in previous 7 meetings, the last in 2015
Singapore WTA Final

Caroline Wozniacki BT Venus Williams 6/4 6/4
