The semi final allocation draw will take place next Tuesday 31st January at 11:00am CET in Kyiv's City State Administration. As usual, Germany have requested to broadcast and vote in Semi Final 2 and this year Switzerland have requested to participate in Semi Final 2. Both request have been granted by the Reference Group.

It's been confirmed by Eurovision.tv that 18 countries will take part in Semi Final 1, whilst 19 will go in Semi Final 2.

As well as Ukraine and the Big 5 being drawn which Semi Final they must broadcast live and vote in, the remaining 37 participants will be split into the two Semi Finals. The pots are as follows:

POT 1: Albania, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Switzerland

POT 2: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Estonia, Sweden

POT 3: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Russia, Israel

POT 4: Hungary, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria

POT 5: Portugal, Australia, Czech Republic, Malta, Austria, San Marino

POT 6: Belgium, The Netherlands, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland

The pots are drawn by Digame based on 'historical voting patterns', designed to reduce the chance of so called 'neighbourly voting' happening.

The ceremony will be broadcast live on the official Eurovision YouTube channel.

Can't wait for another Semi 1 Russian representation. They have NEVER been in Semi 2 every since the system was introduced.
Switzerland requesting to go into the BIGGER semi-final, bless them!

Looks like it's time to change a habit of a lifetime then!

Jeez the first half of the semi 1 already looking like a snoozefest with 3 female ballads. Chances are they will be joined by Belgium since it's the Voice alum. And Montenegro, although not female, will probably produce another slow tempo track. Sweden, Australia and Azerbaijan have a chance to shine there. Well, they automatically will get out of the semi if they send something uptempo and fun.

Oh dear

Italy, Spain and the UK are voting in Semi Final 1, France, Germany and Ukraine in Semi Final 2.

Russia are EXTREMELY isolated there, they only have Belarus for company and to a lesser extent Israel. Lithuania always snub them now and Estonia tend to lean towards the Scandis first, so they will need to bring the goods this time round (as they usually do)!
I mean, trying to draw any kind of major conclusions out of the first semi draw is always a mugs game slightly but I'd probably say the only one that's really sunk at this point is Finland and Belarus look like they're in a reasonably good position to qualify.

I quite like the fact that the usual "big-hitters": Russia, Romania, Sweden, Azerbaijan, Australia and Hungary to a lesser extent are all in the first half while only Armenia, Greece and to a lesser extent Norway are in the second half.

It does feel very balanced as well, the only imbalances being that all the Caucasus states are in the same semi-final, although this only really benefits Georgia as the other two are going to be swapping 12s anytime soon. And Greece, Cyprus and Albania all together too but I like all these countries so that's fine! :heehee:
