I think the MUNA song is great!

Oh yes. It's very good. This contest us actually my first hearing it but it's very enjoyable!

I sent my votes...some of my semi faves did wear off and some that I didn't vote actually grew on me a lot...but my 18 pointer stayed the same since day 1
Summericia has never been a big fan of Daehun have they?

definitely one of the 5 above the line is winning...I wouldn't be surprised if Sam repeats the win with much superior Ana Mena song ...Hendinia and Pupok will finish top 10 based on novelty factor (especially Pupok...listening to THAT song without watching a video it doesn't really have the same effect and doesn't have a replay factor IMO) but I don't know if there will be enough support to actually lead one of them all the way to the top!!!

last minute odds yay

Do I think Yehesi is a contender? Yeah, sure. I still think it will come ~3rd or something but I can see it in the running.

Harmonica coming for that surprise smash again?

I really don't like the vast majority of songs that are projected to win. :(

Pinnacle - dull

Troll mess - don't get it. I feel if it was a more obscure country it wouldn't have been that high on the odds at all

Hannah - very uninteresting compared to the rest of her stuff

Muna - bland

Gareth - eurgh

I hope something else wins. But last winner was really fantastic and we can't have two great ones in a row surely so yeah

Yup absolutely!! But that's what these odds threads do - elevate and push certain songs to win when, like the above, they can be aabsolute rubbish.

Not everyone is gonna be enthused by every track. I'd be bloody worried about the future of the contest if we all had identical taste.

It's not what's they do at all...they are just a barometer of anticipated popularity that takes into account things like pre-existing hype, Plug reaction and loose predictions based on the sort of stuff people usually go for.

Nothing has been elevated or pushed by me...many of my favourites are right down at the bottom because I know that while I love them, they are bound to be pretty niche interest tracks. Similarly, there are one or two songs very high in my odds which I think are complete trash and if I had any say in the matter I'd try and push them to flop - but nevertheless you can't ignore the hype that has built behind them (independent of the odds thread) and it would be unrealistic to give them 40/1 or whatever.

Nobody votes for something just because they've seen it high up in an odds thread, hence why we still get tons of 'shock' DNQs and flops.

I have no idea why everyone is predicting Troll to do so well - when winners are generally pretty current, what is going to push people to vote for a dated Swedish 1980s track?! I don't pay much/any attention to which country send which song and don't actually know who Hendinia is, so I don't know if Pavel's claims about the obscurity of the country are true in relation to the eventual success of a song. Hopefully not though!

Tone Damli's song is great though and would definitely be a deserving winner. Definitely the "coolest" song in there.

A Swedish pop song from the early 90s made the top 10 a few years back & this one sounds even more mass appealing IMO so it's certainly a contender.

The general hype for Troll is nothing to do with Hendinia, I think, and everything to do with the charm of that sort of melodic ABBA/The Riddle type pop that feels nostalgic and joyful -

had a similarly 'dated' sounding winner last year although that track is, unbelievably, from the 21st century.

I don't think dated/current has any bearing on how people vote, sometimes retro charm wins through, sometimes 'current' sounds redundant and unoriginal just as often as the other way around.

80s/90s songs have often done well in the last couple of years, granted before that they were generally seen as a lost cause.

Troll will appeal to the schlager and pop crowd but also has ironic appeal, because of the nature of the song and the video, and how it stands out from everything else. Sometimes being different to everything else is a benefit. Singerpurear got a Sandra track from the 80s into the top ten a couple of years ago, and I managed to get One More Time's 1992 opus Highland to the top 10 little over a year ago. I think if the song stands up on its own merits (which imo Jimmy Dean does) then it has a very good shot.

Don't quote me though if it limps in 29th or something

double post (again, argh)

I'll have to check out some of the more recent winners that I missed out on - my current "new music" playlist is well over 50% BJSC entries from the past two contests!

and don't forget a Crystal Waters track from 1994 winning less than half a year ago!

I do think perhaps if 'Jimmy Dean' were entered by Singerpurear/Tartford/Palmyra or a similarly "no-hoper" country it wouldn't be getting such good predictions though, wasn't that Sandra song massively under-predicted?

Of course predictions don't necessarily reflect the actual results and generally speaking people don't get swayed by the hype if they're not keen on the entry.

Was just saying that a hype train gets going very easily and it being Hendinia just facilitates the process due to there being an active clique Rob is part of. Hence it's probably being overpredicted.
