September 3, 20177 yr omg Best Actress is nightmarishly competitive this year atm!!! Stone & Hawkins are getting raves and Ronan also seems to be getting fab reviews as well. I'll be starting my new formatted Sam Prediction thread later tonight which will be looking over the Best Picture & 4 acting categories races over the next few months in a new format so get hyped <3
September 7, 20177 yr Author Donald Sutherland is to get an Honorary Oscar at the upcoming Oscars ceremony for his services to film. Very deserving imo, I haven't seen loads of his older films (I thought he was great in Klute and obviously love him in The Hunger Games franchise too) but it's crazy that he's never even been Oscar-nominated before :o
September 9, 20177 yr cos I still haven't had time to do my in-depth predictions, here are my new category predictions! Picture: 01) Get Out 02) Darkest Hour 03) Dunkirk 04) Call Me By Your Name 05) Battle Of The Sexes 06) The Shape Of Water 07) The Florida Project 08) The Papers 09) mother! 10) Wonder Wheel Actor: 01) Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) 02) Jake Gyllenhaal (Stronger) 03) Timothee Chalament (Call Me By Your Name) 04) Christian Bale (Hostiles) 05) Denzel Washington (Roman Israel, Esq) Actress: 01) Kate Winslet (Wonder Wheel) 02) Emma Stone (Battle Of The Sexes) 03) Meryl Streep (The Post) 04) Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird) 05) Jennifer Lawrence (mother!) Supporting Actor: 01) Michael Stuhlbarg (Call Me By Your Name) 02) Willem Dafoe (The Florida Project) 03) Ed Harris (mother!) 04) Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name) 05) Christoph Waltz (Downsizing) Supporting Actress: 01) Michelle Pfeiffer (mother!) 02) Hong Chau (Downsizing) 03) Margot Robbie (Goodbye Christopher Robin) 04) Holly Hunter (The Big Sick) 05) Juno Temple (Wonder Wheel) I have Lady Bird/Sally Hawkins/Allison Janney all just missing out, I can see them all getting noms but idk who to swap out of their respective categories!
September 17, 20177 yr Author After seeing Mother, I don't think it'll be a big awards hit so I'm shaking up my predictions a bit!! BEST PICTURE Darkest Hour Dunkirk The Shape of Water The Post Call Me by Your Name -------- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Get Out The Florida Project Last Flag Flying Lady Bird BEST ACTRESS Kate Winslet -- Wonder Wheel Meryl Streep -- The Post Emma Stone -- Battle of the Sexes Frances McDormand -- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Sally Hawkins -- The Shape of Water BEST ACTOR Timothée Chalamet -- Call Me by Your Name Bryan Cranston -- Last Flag Flying Daniel Day-Lewis -- Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Film Gary Oldman -- Darkest Hour Tom Hanks -- The Post BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Octavia Spencer -- The Shape of Water Juno Temple -- Wonder Wheel Laurie Metcalf -- Lady Bird Melissa Leo -- Novitiate Hong Chau -- Downsizing BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Armie Hammer -- Call Me by Your Name Laurence Fishburne -- Last Flag Flying Willem Dafoe -- The Florida Project Michael Stuhlbarg -- Call Me by Your Name Sam Rockwell -- Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri BEST DIRECTOR Luca Guadagnino -- Call Me by Your Name Christopher Nolan -- Dunkirk Steven Spielberg -- The Post Joe Wright -- Darkest Hour Guillermo del Toro -- The Shape of Water
September 20, 20177 yr Three Billboards won the audience prize at Toronto so that's shot up as a contender now! Not gonna update my predictions properly but these are what I'd change rn: Pic: Three Billboards & Lady Bird are in, mother! & Wonder Wheel are out. (I feel like Battle Of The Sexes getting in will depend on its box office as its meant to be a crowdpleaser so if it does big bucks I think it'll be nominated but if it bombs at the box office then I think it's out, I'm keeping it in for the moment) Actor: Hanks in, Washington out. Ik I should've stuck to my gut feeling that Roman Israel was gonna flop, just if I held on a bit longer! Actress: McDormand in, Lawrence out Supporting Actor: same atm but I'll probs have Sam Rockwell in soon Supporting Actress: I rly feel Janney & Maslany will get nominated but idk who to replace! Probs Michelle Pfeiffer & Hong Chau but I'm not gonna change yet!
September 22, 20177 yr I, Tonya is 100% confirmed for this year now, release date is 8th December in America!
September 24, 20177 yr Universal are supposedly pushing IDWLF for an Oscar push in best song :cheer: Taylor coming for that Oscar <3
September 26, 20177 yr I'll type up the Amazon FYC's in a few days cos there is SO much on there I don't have effort rn but a few key points!! Last Flag Flying: Carell is sole lead, Cranston/Fishburne in supporting and Cicely Tyson in supporting actress The Big Sick: Zoe Kazan in lead Wonderstruck: Oakes Fegley in lead, Millicent Simmonds in supporting actress, no Michelle Williams in either actress category
September 27, 20177 yr Author After reading Wonderstruck, Michelle Williams has such a tiny role, she stood no chance at all really. It feels like the film probably won't do well at the awards now anyway but I think Millicent Simmonds looks great so I hope I'm wrong!
September 27, 20177 yr We finally have someone out of the best actress category!! The wife has been moved to 2018
September 28, 20177 yr Not related to this year but Mary Queen Of Scots has got a November 2018 release date! Margot & Saoirse coming for those Oscars <3
September 28, 20177 yr Also Last Flag Flying seems to be liked but not getting too much love. Not sure if it'll still be a big player or a complete misfire, at this rate from the reviews I think it will only score a couple of noms!
October 2, 20177 yr Some new category campaigners: (cba to update thread rn as too busy, will do it later this week when I have more time!) Detroit - Algee Smith lead, John Boyega/Will Poulter supporting Breathe - Claire Foy supporting Novitiate - Melissa Leo supporting Also the categories for Last Flag Flying have disappeared, rumours Steve Carell is moving to supporting.
October 3, 20177 yr Author Algee Smith was brilliant in Detroit so yay that they've submitted an FYC for him. Will Poulter was utterly terrifying in that film too so I'd love for him to get a nomination. I do feel like film doesn't stand much of a chance at any nominations though as is it seems really forgotten already and we're not even properly into awards season yet. YAY at Claire Foy going supporting too, she has a good chance of winning their in my opinion. It looks like a very similar role to Alicia Vikander & Viola Davis from the last two years.
October 6, 20177 yr Is it just I Tonya, The Post & PTA film that we are waiting on for trailers for films this Oscar season?
October 21, 20177 yr I know neither nom is probs happening now but Javier Bardem (mother) and Julianne Moore (Suburbicon) have been placed as supporting.
October 25, 20177 yr The 15:17 To Paris (February) and Chappaquiddik (April) are both officially out of the race. Hostiles is in (22nd December). And Steve Carell has been officially moved to supporting for Battle Of The Sexes.
November 7, 20177 yr Unsurprisingly all the money in the world has had its AFI world premeire pulled.
November 21, 20177 yr Independent Spirit Award Nominations: Mudbound's Robert Altman Award means it's ineligible for the acting categories/possibly other categories as well I'm not sure! Fab to see The Florida Project, I Tonya & Lady Bird doing really well! Gutted TFP scored no acting noms :( Also Three Billboards snubbed for Best Pic is a massive shock :o edit: Actually all the big contenders seemed to miss something  Billboards/ I Tonya best pic, Lady Bird director, CMBYM writing, Florida Project acting! Literally just Get Out seemed to not miss something of the probs Oscar contenders :o Shape Of Water was also rumoured to be eligible so that's been snubbed everywhere if true!!
