Excellent film, far superior to the remake, so much more atmospheric and creepy
Fantastic film, really scared me sh!tless when I saw this in the cinema with the surround sound just totally creeping me out.... The terrifying use of sound in that film is probably one of the most scary things in a horror film..... The film's atmosphere is really quite palpable and I do love the way it's structured, with different timelines all colliding and it's incredibly odd use of temporal narrative..... It is a very Japanese film and it is so steeped in Japanese culture, history and identity... Which is why the remake didnt work, you can't really turn an obviously Japanese film into an American one....

Excellent film, far superior to the remake,

this is also a remake.

i think Takashi Shimizu must be cursed by some evil Japanese spiritdemon and if he doesnt bring out another grudge film each year he will die in the most evil and nasty bloodspludgy way.

then again it might be Lars von Trier doing an Asian version of his 'De Fem benspænd' but i doubt it!!! would love to see what the other obstructions were if it was

You hate all the American remakes though,

even it was 100% better youd still hate it :smoke:

Not all, I liked "Hills Have Eyes", mind you, that was made by a French director.....

And I thought Scorcese's take on the Hong Kong "Infernal Affairs" trilogy (which is what "The Departed" is) was absolutely magnificent, but then Scorcese pretty much IS the greatest living American film-maker (I doubt anyone can seriously argue otherwise, even his average films are better than what most other US directors can do..), so I would expect nothing more than excellence from a man who has given us "Goodfellas", "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull"....

Moot point anyway about the rest, they weren't better, period.... In fact "The Departed" being so good just proves that bloody good remakes ARE possible with a bit of effort, and the others just look like even bigger piles of sh!t now....

If you get Martin Scorcese or David Lynch to take charge of ALL the HK, Thai or Japanese remakes, I might actually review my opinion on US remakes..... :P

Thought this was $h!t

Yeah, well, you would mate, I'm almost totally convinced you know fukk all about what actually constitutes a 'good' film....

"Paris is my inspiration"??? You hardly make a good case for yourself by having that in your sig either..... What's inspiring about some vacuous, attention-seeking whore with a rich daddy and born with a silver spoon in her mouth......? She certainly never had to struggle for anything in her whole life.....

The people who are truly inspiring come from disadvantaged, poor backgrounds, the ones who genuinely stuggle against adversity and make something out of their lives, NOT rich daddy's girls who go to endless parties and snort cocaine all night or seek attention by starring in porn videos getting buttfukked by their boyfriends, thinking it's all 'just a laugh' and 'cool' to be in a porn vid... That's an insult to all the poor, working-class girls who are forced by poverty, drug addiction, sexual abuse and poor education to make a living by prostitution or adult films. That woman is disgusting, a truly vile creature. There is nothing 'cool' about the Porn Industry....

Hmm, she pretty much IS the subject that Jarvis Cocker is referring to in his song "Common People"......

'Liking' is one thing, saying that she's somehow 'inspirational' is quite another.....

It's on soon, I can't wait, the advert that film 4 has on it looks good, it looks like the american grudge but more suburban, which i think will make me more scared of it, plus i don't know any of the actros in it because that spoilt the remake as sarah michelle gellar was it in and you knew SHE could kill the grudge character
