I have to do a bit of scouting for this since all my recent potentials are well north of three minutes oops (hey, I've had my 3 minute pop song fix just fine since like February so I didn't exactly need to go out seeking more). I think I maybe have something SOULFUL as my first choice but don't quote me on that.

How cheap can we be, is it just standard spin off rules plus those outlined in the OP or it is standard main contest rules?

It's more relaxed, but standard contest rules are in force - covers need to be 'sufficiently unique', no former BJSC tracks et al but we don't run the full veto.

I went through my potential list yesterday (at least some of it) and nothing was under 3 minutes, I may have a bit of a search on my hands, but I'm definitely up for this, BJFest is always a very... unique... experience.

Oh this looks good - will give it a go. How is the length of the song measured (MP3 that is submitted/Spotify etc.)? Also does it have to be bang on 3:00 or less (no 3:01-3:05s allowed)?

can't be a second over 3 minutes but if you've got a song that's just over you can make a lil edit and upload that as the mp3 / YT/SC link

We tend to measure length of song submitted by how long the audio on the Soundcloud/YouTube link lasts. So a video that lasts 3:30 is fine if it includes a load of shite that comes with music videos and the song itself is 3mins or less.

 

We are pretty particular about it. Last time out I submitted an audio version of my track from YouTube because the music video mix had an extended intro that took it over 3 mins
