Doesn't cover my face, but I could certainly carry a concealed weapon in it (sawn-off shotgun, handgun..), it's got deep pockets, good for hiding things.... It's a pretty good 'shoplifters' coat....

  Well don't chavs eh? Cos they'll all want one. ;)

but I thought ALL muslim women had to wear veil, at least the one which covers the hair. Maybe the others are just ethnic muslims but not real muslim believers/practicers?

no it just depends how paranoid and sexist their husbands are.

This sounds like somebody just attempting to stir trouble to be honest. I have seen nothing about anybody complaining about the dates. As has already been said, this is probably something that a journalist noticed and put a spin on to sell papers.

Cant see very many Chavs would wear a full-length leather trenchcoat....

You'd be surprised, if they thought they could pinch something they'd do owt.

Kinda knew it would be a jacket like that, they are popular...myself I like vampire jackets. Can't wait till I make a new one...

The problem with the French Law is that it's half-baked and looks the other way at Jewish skullcaps and "discreet" (whatever that means...) Crucifixes.. Sorry, but it's all or nothing for me, if you're gonna stop people wearing the veil, then ALL religious iconograpy has to be banned from State Institutions so as to not be seen playing favourites.. As a practicing Atheist, to me that would be a dream come true....

A good post as always Consie, well thought out and argued... :)

I always tell people, I am a strict secularist no matter what. To me, that is not a left or right position... sadly it seems most political parties are too timid to take it on...

Thanks for the compliment, I'd like to think the "just shoot the ****ers" comments are made by people who will eventually grow up...

Finally I'll add that one thing is clear. This is NOT about the Olympics. Not a single person on here would be personally inconvenienced if they moved the ceremonies forward a couple weeks. This discussion reveals a much more serious contention between many British non-Muslims and Muslims. It's been fascinating, thanks for the points everone has added.

BRAVO!

This is a lot of fuss about nothing, I am not aware of any British muslim body complaining about olympics nor any athlete

On the other hand the date should not be changed for anyone, someone is always going to be disadvantaged by the olympics, if the olympics is held in Kuala Lumpur or Mexico City where there is extreme humidity and altitude people from cold climates will be at a disadvantage etc

As the saying goes - "$h!t happens"
