October 15, 200618 yr ARIA Chartifacts from ARIA.com Sandi Thom spends a seventh week at the top of the Australian charts, and by doing so becomes the first British Female Performer to remain at No.1 since May 1977 when Julie Covington's rendition of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" was at the top for a seven week stretch. There was also another British Female artist who stayed at No.1 for seven weeks in 1977, Pussyfoot's "The Way You Do it" which was at No.1 from late January. Between Julie and Sandi there have only been six other British Female's to hit No.1. Kate Bush (1978), Samantha Fox (1986), Kim Wilde (1987), Sarah Brightman (1992), Dido (2003) and Jamelia (2004). Sandi is the 19th British Female Performer to hit the top of the Australian charts, and the first was back in May 1941 when Vera Lynn took her version of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" for four months; the first of six No.1's for Vera. There are only two movements within the Top 10 this week, with No.5 and No.6 swapping places. And there are only three new entries to the Top 50 singles. The highest new entry is at No.23, and comes from a man who has been on the charts since 1997's "Can't Hold Me Down". P.Diddy is accompanied by Nicole Scherzinger on the track "Come to Me", and it's his first chart single since 2003's "Let Get ill", although he did appear as a guest vocalist on 2004's "I Don't Wanna Know" with Mario. Two Australian acts make up the two other debuts. At No.39 is Sydneysider Josh Pyke with his first chart single "Memories and Dust". He has hit the Top 100 before, but this is his first Top 50 single, and he is currently overseas in the UK touring with The Walkmen, and has also just received an ARIA Award nomination for Best Pop Release for 2005's 'Feeding The Wolves'. At No.43 is the Australian chart debut for new rock-chick girl-group Girlband, "Party Girl". They are currently touring Australia as support act for TV Rock. As with the singles chart, the album charts are also stable, well at least the Top 5 is the same as last week. The highest new entry comes in at No.7, and is the second Australian charting album for Italian singer Patrizio Buanne entitled "Forever Begins Tonight". His previous album was "The Italian" which first charted in August 2005 eventually reaching the Top 10. Coming in at No.14 is the first Australian Top 50 chart album for Trivium called "The Crusade". Hailing from Orlando, California and forming in 2000 this is their third album, and second on the Roadrunner label. Previous albums have been 2003's "Ember to Inferno" and 2005's "Ascendancy". Australia's Something with Numbers debut at No.37 with "Perfect Distraction", which contains the recent No.34 single "Apple of My Eye (Lay Me Down)".

October 17, 200618 yr Oooooh the Ozzos are doing downloads as well now are they? Wonder if it'll push the #1 single sales above 10,000. :kink: I do love the Oz charts though - some of the stuff that does c**p over here performs really well over there but then they have a taste for the artist's least successful songs or the odd dire RNB/HIP-HOP track.
