Posted October 17, 200618 yr John Carpenter's Vampires is on C4 on Thursday 26th october at 10.50 pm. so is it any good? is it worth setting the DVD-R for?
October 18, 200618 yr No good, no good at all. No scares, nothing. It is one of these films where the makers appearantly think that just having vampires on-screen makes a film a horror film. Instead go out and rent the 80s vampire-classic Near Dark if you haven't seen that or if you want Carpenter, then Ghosts of Mars - a much better film than Vampires and even a mediocre film overall (something you really cannot say about anything else Carpenter has done since the 80s - well, In The Mouth Of Madness was ok if I remember right but still).

I'd agree with that. "Vampires" is basically "Buffy" with a sex change and with all the sly humour, fun, good characterisation and irony ripped out. In short, a stupid, big, dumb action film with Vampires... Worst film James Woods ever made IMO, what the hell was he thinking....????
October 18, 200618 yr Vampires you say :funky: You know even tho it is probably $h!te I'd watch it just for the vamps.
October 19, 200618 yr You know Halloween is really the only Carpenter film I enjoy... and of course I meant the original Halloween (not any of the wretched sequels). Yet another film in the franchise is in the works. Written by Carpenter, the film has been delayed because of the tragic death of Moustapha Akkad in the Jordan terrorist attacks last year...

Oh, I dunno, "Escape From New York" and "The Thing" are both pretty good as well IMO.. A few others of his have their moments (such as "Prince of Darkness" and "In The Mouth of Madness"), but, yeah, "Halloween" will be always be regarded as his greatest film...
