Think About It is one of my fav from Mel. Also the album is really good.

I really liked Emma's first three singles. I think the quality is there. But at the time, I did think it strange how TMBA sounded so much like a Corrs song, which was a bit off-brand for a spice girl.

Thinking back to Geri's very successful, very Ginger Spice debut album, and Mel B's successful early singles being intrinsically Scary Spice (her being the most like her character anyway)... I wonder if Emma would've had more longevity if she'd gone a bit pop in the beginning. I mean, Britney is basically dressed as Baby Spice in 'Baby One More Time' video. I can imagine quite a different debut for her.

Obviously 'Free Me' would've smashed, had it been Emma's debut. So I know that would have been the ideal.

Melanie C's album Stages was released 8 years ago this week (and I've still not heard it in full :kink: )

You BAD fan Jay!!

It's not worth listening to in full tbh  I think I've listened to it all the way through twice

I like stages , I don’t love all of it but I’m pleased it got a release.
Add me to one of those who never even listened to Stages and really has no interest to; then again I don't think I'm the target audience.
I like Stages. My highlights from it are the opener Maybe This Time, the duet I Know Him So Well, the mesmerizing I Don't Know How to Love Him, the beautiful Both Sides Now, the classic I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself and the dreamy I Only Have Eyes for You.

Agree! I listened to the two singles and then listened to teh first 2mins of Both Sides Now and couldnt really listen to anymore. Both Sides Now is one of the best songs ever written and she absolutely murdered it.... <_<

It put me off completely from the album ah

I only have eyes for you is my fav .

The first ever solo Spice single was released 22 years ago today! 😨

Still one of the absolute best. It's still sounds super fresh and should have been bigger. I know it went to 1 but it seems quite forgotten by now.

Best solo Spice debut, by 100 miles!

It is a perfect song, with a perfect video. There were reports that Missy was going to produce Mel's album and I could totally imagine that. I wonder if that was just a rumour or if it was going to happen and then didnt?!

A shame that the single isnt on iTunes, it is only available as part of that soundtrack and even then, you can only get it if you buy the whole album -_-

Stages is absolutely woeful, her voice, the tracklisting, the artwork. It is all trash.

I want you back is one of the best solo spice offerings. It feels like an extension of scary spice but ramped up including the video.

19 years since Not Such an Innocent Girl was released (Monday 17th September 2001), also meaning that it's 19 years since Kylie's Can't Get You Out of My Head!

I want you back is a stunner it has aged so well. While I know it went to #1 and was a silver seller it deserves to be bigger and more remembered. Such a shame it didn't get a US push aswell with Missy on it, could have been a good introduction to solo Mel over there. The same goes for Melanie C on When you're gone with Bryan Adams, both those songs sound made for US radio!
That was such a memorable time for pop. All the solo spice stuff was happening, Victoria and Kylie’s releases that week really stand out and I was obsessed with Hear’Say at the time too 🤭
Victoria deserved so much more as a solo artist, the press and public gave her a hard time..
