Posted October 19, 200618 yr Cowell hits out at Charlotte Church DigitalSpy.com Thursday, October 19 2006, 13:37 BST - by David Cribb 'X Factor' / ITV Simon Cowell has criticised Charlotte Church for wasting an opportunity at a successful music career. The X Factor judge believes the singer had a great chance to launch classical career, before pop music and television took its place. Cowell told Classic FM: "She was our representative. And this was a girl who in my opinion, with a bit of training and some work, could have been a massive massive operatic star for the next few years because she's really talented. To me, it appears as if she's thrown it all away for this different career. She's crazy." Speaking of the X Factor, Cowell continued: "What I don't want is six Charlotte Churches - I don't want that. I don't want them on chat shows swearing at the age of 20 in a few years time. I can't bear all that. In fact I'm almost thinking about sending them each a poster of Charlotte Church with a big cross on it - 'don't go there'." Do you agree with Simon Cowell or not?
October 19, 200618 yr It depends when he thinks she 'threw it all away' I prefer pop Charlotte to popera Charlotte - so I liked that career move - but that TV show is something else.
October 19, 200618 yr Charlotte's a queen. Knowing Cowell he's seen that her pop album didn't sell half as well as all her opera albums and he's a bit peeved because he never got the chance to manage her before and now she's turned her back on that when she could still sell millions more as an opera singer he'll never get the chance too the skanky old c**t.
October 19, 200618 yr Charlotte is great and very original....Cowell was just jealous he didn't get to sign her -_-
October 19, 200618 yr I can see where he's coming from, she should have stayed at opera and released one or two pop albums or something, nothing keeping her from doing both!
October 19, 200618 yr ohh shut up you old grandad!!! if charlotte wanted to stay in opera then she bloody would have. but she wasnt happy with the music so she changed to what she likes. its not all about success. she wanted to try pop and now she has. and her tv show is great, and shes enjoyin herself, so who's business is it to tell her to stay in something if she dont wanna.! :P
October 19, 200618 yr Charlotte is rich enough that she doesn't need to do anything simply for 'success'. Enjoying her career and 'only' having 6 million in the bank is worth more than being miserable with 8 million. I bought Charlotte's pop album, but none of her classical albums, so for me it was a good decision. It didn't sell brilliantly, but well enough to get her another one, and the next one is bound to be more consistent, which was the main criticism of Tissues and Issues. I'm not that fussed about Charlotte as a chat show host, even though she is good at it. I love her duets at the end, and I'm sure the experience of trying out different songs with different artists week after week will help Charlotte to hone her own style.
October 20, 200618 yr She'll probably return to classical when she's older. She's trying something new meanwhile. And her TV show is a success, so what the hell is Simon Cowell on about?

October 20, 200618 yr Charlotte should do what she is happiest with , nothing to do with Simon Cowell who's only interesting in making more money , but does he have a life ?
October 20, 200618 yr I may be cynical but IMHO SC is just using Charlotte's publicity to try to link his name with concern for culture and "good" music so he can start the promotion for his new "Baby Il Divo" group of choirboys/girls just in time for huge sales for the Christmas market - the ideal present for Great Aunt Fanny, Granny, teacher, neighbour, acquaintance etc.
October 20, 200618 yr The artists who Cowell doesn't rate or appreciate, always seem to be the most talented, happy and well- adjusted ones with their own ideals and hopes, get a life Cowell.

That's the very reason he doesn't Suggy. Those peeps can't be manipulated and Cowell has to be in charge - "Simon Says" :P
October 21, 200618 yr Charlotte is extremely talented, whether is pop or opera or dance/opera, she'll always deliver amazing things. Her voice is unique and something you can't find in any artist.

Simon should keep his stupid opinions to himself. He's been responsible for the ruining of quite a few careers and has no right to put his oar in. Lovin your Keisha White picture!
October 21, 200618 yr Charlotte is young, she wants to try different things, she's more or less just doing what Tarja Tereunen (also Operatically trained) did when she joined Finnish Metal band Nightwish as vocalist, just doing something different while she can. Tarja had always said that she would do Opera full-time when being in Nightwish no longer held any appeal for her (mind you, Tarja got kicked out of Nightwish as opposed to actually leaving of her own volition, but well, there you go...)..... I believe Charlotte probably will do the West End shows or Opera when she is older and a bit wiser, I dont think she's really p***ing her talent away as such, but personally I cant really stand her pop stuff or her rather crummy chat show, but that's just me... As for Simon Cowell (and his seemingly endless supply of factory-farmed manufactured muppets...), his 'talent' is for what exactly.....?

Well, but Tarja didn't change THAT much as she continued singing Opera, although with a heavy metal classic style music band. I mean, she completely changed in the style of the music but she kept on using the Opera voice which turned out to be a success. Charlotte, on the other hand, didn't continue using her opera voice, she moved to pop music and a pop voice.
