In August, Netflix released Marvel's The Defenders an 8 episode epic which united the stars of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist together in one battle. It was the culmination of a big TV event after five 13 episode series had aired, establishing the characters and each with their own individual plot. Together, they were brought together in a battle against The Hand, an enemy previously seen in Daredevil and Iron Fist.

Not only did we see the title characters but we were also able to see each of the main supporting characters interact with each other, really helping to immerse the audience within the world. It also starred Signourey Weaver in a main key role! It is all part of Marvel's Cinematic Universe but doesn't particularly share many links with it. Instead, it has built up it's own world on Netflix.

SPOILERS WILL FOLLOW.

As I've said on here before, I LOVED Jessica Jones and Daredevil was really good once it got going too. Luke Cage saw the quality take a dive a bit as it just went on for far too long and Iron Fist was just dull really. So I was really excited for this but I also taught myself to be a bit apprehensive.

I did really enjoy it though, the 8 episode format worked SO much better and is what I would really hope they would implement for the individual series but I know they won't. I guess it is because they don't really go on a journey here but I do find it odd that they reduce the episode numbers for this.

I loved the first couple of episodes where it split each of the characters scenes into 'their' colour to reinforce how they were separate series but now they were coming together. LOVED the Jessica Jones scenes in particular and reminded me how excited I am for Season 2! They did largely work well together, mainly Daredevil and Jessica. I do have to agree with the general consensus that Iron Fist as a character is SO weak though, probably down to the actor. It just made it even more unfortunate that the story was basically based around him :drama:

Wish they'd explored more of Alexandra, so that we could gain a deeper understanding of the Hand. Could kind of guess that she

would die though as they would have to keep providing reasons why Signourey wasn't there in future series!

.

The main enjoyment did come from all the characters, and particularly supporting characters, interact with each other though. It helped reinvigorate my interest in the project as a whole, after two weaker seasons and I really cannot wait for JJ s2!
