Week 1: Saturday (Boys / Girls)

 

1 Alisah Bonaobra - I am a sucker for powerhouse vocals and she certainly delivered them last night!

 

2 Lloyd Macey - I know people can be a bit "eh" about theatrical vocalists taking part in this show, when we're all hopeful for a brilliant new popstar. He has a genuinely fantastic voice though... perhaps the best X Factor has had when it comes to this type of vocalist? I think he could be a dark horse. Although he's not "popstar material", in terms of pure talent he's ridiculously far ahead of the other boys.

 

3 Holly Tandy - A very polished performance, and strong vocals. I can't fault her! Like Ryan said, she reminds me of Lucie Jones.

 

4 Rai-Elle Williams - I wasn't convinced that the mash-up worked (I preferred her doing the Lauryn Hill song, less so Meghan Trainor's). She's an engaging performer though, and so full of confidence!

 

5 Grace Davies - Perhaps controversial, but she's my least favourite of the girls as things stand. I'm just not quite buying into the hype yet! I recognise that she's good, yet I don't think she's as spectacular as she's being made out to be (as a vocalist or as a writer). I find her songs to be quite samey, actually... like, they're nice, but I can't say any of them have stuck in my mind. If she sticks to originals each week, I'd like to see some diversity - can she write and perform a feel-good uptempo? I know this'll sound bad, but I'd prefer to see her performing some cover versions at this stage in the competition. I personally don't see this as being a backwards step - if she has the ability to "make a song her own", she could stand to have a moment.

 

6 Leon Mallett - Not a bad effort! I felt he was perhaps the most nervous of them all, so I'm looking forward to seeing if he can grow in confidence.

 

7 Spencer Sutherland - He definitely suffered with the wrong song choice, oops.

 

8 Sam Black - The weakest of the night for sure. That's not to say that I hated his performance - but I wasn't wowed by it and I'm not seeing anything special. I feel like there's a good reason why he didn't even make it to six chair in the first place.

 

 

Week 1: Sunday (Groups / Overs)

 

1 Rak-Su - Very catchy & relevant sounding song, really confident performers - enjoyable!

 

2 The Cutkelvins - They're really fresh! Love Shareen's vocals. <3

 

3 Jack and Joel - I actually found them entertaining, after not really getting them before now... the power of Dua! x

 

4 Tracey Leanne Jefford - Pleasantly surprised! She's really upped her game, she's never sounded better.

 

5 Matt Linnen - Croaky sounding, didn't enjoy.

 

6 Sean and Conor Price - Not great... being slightly better than the next two acts is the most positive I can be.

 

7 Talia Dean - Such a huge misfire of a song, which she unpleasantly bellowed her way through. D: I never really got her during the audition stages anyway, so I'm not bothered that she's gone.

 

8 Kevin Davy White - Very dull, I'm not a fan of his vocals at all.

The right people went this week definitely. Just need Sam, Matt, Alisah and Sean & Conor to go next week and that's just about all the deadwood out. Overall quality wasn't as good as last week, which I think is down to them being limited with the Latino theme (please just axe the themes already) but the top five did well with what they had. Particularly surprised with Kevin, perhaps he is an underdog contender though I don't think he'll go all the way. He definitely improved from last week anyway, as did Holly.

I really want to root for The Cutkelvins but they were quite flat in that performance, though at least they had some energy which puts them above a lot of the others still. Rak-Su definitely the highlight still, would like them to win but I think Kevin will do it now, another show stopping performance from him! Grace, Rai-Elle and Lloyd improving from last week too.
