Posted November 7, 20177 yr After being part of one of the pilots of last year's Sitcom Season, Motherland airs it's full series tonight! It focuses on all the everyday traumas of mothers and stars Anna Maxwell-Martin, Diane Morgan and Lucy Punch. It is also written by Graham Lineham, Sharon Horgan, Holly Walsh and Helen Lineham! Motherland is a show all about navigating the trials and traumas of middle-class motherhood, looking at the competitive and unromantic sides of parenting - not the cute and acceptable public face of motherhood. We meet the 'Alpha Mums' headed by Amanda (Lucy Punch - The Wedding Video) who is very much the Queen Bee: everything in her life is organised, clean and sparkly - even the kіtchen cork board is a statement of success. At the other end of the spectrum we meet Liz (Diane Morgan - Cunk On Shakespeare) who's totally chaotic and feels the kids should enjoy free expression. Somewhere in the middle is Julia (Anna Maxwell-Martin - Reg), who, when she forgets it’s the school holidays, realises her organisational skills are nowhere near the level of the ‘Alpha Mums’. Also in the mix is Kevin (Paul Ready Utopia), he's the stay-at-home dad, who rather than fighting against that, is embracing it with gusto - much to the irritation of the other mothers. Motherland is written by Graham Linehan (Count Arthur Strong, Father Ted), Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe, Pulling), Helen Linehan and Holly Walsh (Dead Boss). MvwkLrcNv1Q
November 7, 20177 yr Author SO happy this got a full season! It was the only 'new' pilot I checked out of Sitcom Season due Graham Lineham and Philomena Cunk! Very much looking forward to watching the series. Will be great to see Diane Morgan in a new role, and to have a main role in a sitcom!
July 11, 20214 yr I'm SO late with this but this may be my fave British sitcom since Miranda, so so well written and just such a light-hearted JOY to watch. Something that is sorely missing from TV I feel. Surprised it hasn't got more of a reaction on here!
July 11, 20214 yr I binged it at the start of June and absolutely loved it! Anna Maxwell Martin is just phenomenal, and each character brings something to the table. Amanda is my queen and Liz is SO relatable!
