I believe emma bunton is with 19s label and management and I see on teletext today that she is releasing a single shortly. Seeing that she is the frontrunner to win on Strictly come dancing and has a high profile on tv at the moment, that is very lucky as it is also to be the childlren in need song. The release is a cover!! Petula clarks Downtown. How nice it would have been if 19 had released a new song!! you know what I mean.

19 record label has Emma and Gareth in the pipe line. Brilliant 19 has Amy Winehouse to promote as her single and album are soon out. I think we'll have to wait a while.

Sorry meg. I had forgotten about amy winehouse though I dont know why. She hs been in the tabloids all last week although none of it has been good. She was reported to be drunk on the charlotte church show and also to have struck a fan and her own boyfriend, etc etc and that her label would be speaking to her. Wouldnt say therefore that her label had got her pr right. Its a pity as she had a very good voice and talent but the single is called REHAB!! and the last I heard it was number 20 in the midweeks. Although she is with brilliant 19, wasnt sure if she is with the 19 label.

Amy winehouse is not with 19 label, she is with island records under the universal banner. (ANANOVA).

Isn't that no.20 on downloads alone?

Amy is like Darius, her voice and talent have never been in question. Apart from the early blurb, no doubt partially financed by a huge promotion budget, Amy has either been practically ignored by the media or everything she has done given a biased slant by them.

Unfortunately it seems as if Amy/Amy's team has decided to try to turn her into the kind of character who takes up columns of print in the usual mags.

Her recent pictures showed her to be a shadow of herself, anorexic in my opinion, then there was the terrible performance on Charlotte Church when it was Charlotte holding the duet together and there were allegations of Amy being drunk, now she's accused of violence.

If you go on Emma's website you can hear her singing the song, and it sounds nice. I think the reason charity records are 'mostly' covers, is because they do as a rule sell better. And that is what's important after all. I can remember a few originals as charity records and they did not sell as well.

I think the artist puts his own benefit to the side when making a charity record, or they should be in my opinion. :D

I am sure Emma will sell well for children in need. :D

I've never liked Downtown. Emma's OK, a good choice I think, but I'll only buy the single if there's another song as the b-side. If it's all remixes, I'll give it a miss.
well take it for granted I shant be buying it..it has been a very long time since I bought a CD..Culture club I think..LOL..Darius excluded of course, I am far too tight
Simon Fuller has done well to get the CIN single just at the optimum moment when Emma is one of the favourites in SCD. There should be no bother getting her album high into the top ten. It could be her most successful yet.

Amy winehouse was at no.19 in sundays chart. I heard it this afternoon on radio 2, there is no doubt she is talented but it didnt set the airwaves alight. Regarding emma, she is lucky to be on SCD and to get the children in need spot also, I say this because If Darius had released a cover like that there is no doubt the tabloids would have a go. I have never been able to understand that several people including the X factor lot can release covers all the time and nothing is said yet Darius writes his own music and is creative and thats put down but then they are under a certain label are they not which promotes like mad.

As soon as I heard she was doing this show I guessed she would be releasing and so it is.

its all about hype and geting the artist in the lime light..the right time..having said that some of emmas songs have been qyuite nice with a retro feel..

I really liked the song Feel me. :D

And Emma seems very nice. :)

was it feel me..I thought it was free me..

free me to seduce you..LOL..yes I liked that one, hse has a voice suited to that sort of song

That's the only one of Emma's songs that I consciously listened to or rather watched because the guy who did that video also did one of Darius's. I don't remember which now - Colourblind?

I was never a fan of the Spice Girls so haven't followed their solo careers. That whole era passed me by.

I thought the song about the crickets was OK. I think there was one called Maybe that I liked too.

yes, when she released the retro sounding ones they were quite good. I didnt mind any of them..I didnt realise the bloke did Darius's video though

I have heard Downtown and I have to say that it sounds bland compared to petula clarkes version, Emmas voice does not have the attack.

It is so predictable *yawns* - it's an example of what I find distasteful about the music industry really, because like everything else in the world I suppose, as it's about those who have the money, power and influence to pull the strings <_< - in someways I think it is so transparent, that it can backfire on the artist, as people who feel like I do about it all just get turned off.

Regarding people having a go if Darius released a cover, I'd understand that though, because it was Darius himself who made a big deal about not wanting to be a 'covers' artist off the back of a TV show in the first place. I wouldn't like it myself, if Darius were to do something like this :(

Generally speaking, I'm not totally adverse to covers done by anyone, so long as they either have a personal reason for wanting to do that particular song, or they bring something new, different or are somehow creative themselves with it and covers don't form the mainstay of what they generally do.

With these kinds of fund raising charity singles specifically though, I tend to see it differently then myself, no matter who does it - I just think of it being for the charity, more than I think about the song or the artist - Band Aid for example. I'd still sooner something new and original came along though, like the original Band Aid single.

There are a couple of posts on ROTD re this which I agree with - quote

How on earth did 19 swing emma bunton getting the children in need single. I predict that there is going to be more children ineed than there should have been as a result of that decision.

Answer/Nicki chapman I presume. A lot of promotion for what has to be the worst pop record of the year. Shame on the lot of them.

Are 19 good managers or do they concentrate wholly on one artiste at a time.

god, I dislike that amy whinehouse song..it just seems she has taken an old jazz number..I feel the whole instrument use and tune is something I have heard before..and put atroctious lyrics over it! they want me to go to rehad but I say no no no.. her vioce is very smokey..but it really needs better material than this
