true!

Can you imagine trying to get your little wallow in misery on a tour bus with Karl, Spencer, Steve, Greg, Darius and occasionally, Malcom? Mission Impossible.

Keys sticking again Meg :D

I loved the Dive In Tour.........so hope there is another Tour soon

It would be nice if at least some of D's band members could join with him again. He may have had an unconventional way of auditioning for his backing group, but it worked for him and them.
Give him ten minutes! That's Pete Waterman's estimate of how long it takes Darius to win someone over in person and if you remember that quote was made when Pete was feeling very hurt about being rejected by Darius.
I think he was right about the self destruct button though. I think he wins his musicians over simply because he appreciates their abilities and values their contributions.
Perhaps with regard to getting the most out of his talent, it's more than a valid criticism, but overall I think he has a personal life which many would envy and it has nothing to do with fame, money or location.

It's sad to see what a mess some quite young stars' lives are in because of the pressure of showbusiness and the media's insatiable desire for scandal and gossip.

Some of them seem to think that if they stay out of the limelight for a week, they'll be forgotten and the way to upstage others to get into all the columns is to be more outrageous and reckless than them.

Amy Winehouse became so popular when she was portrayed as a mess. Mind you, having a song like 'Rehab' out certainly helped as well. Hers is an album that all the family likes ( apart from my father-in-law)

I hope Darius never goes that way....I wouldn't wish it on anyone

I'd rather he stayed happy and have a family life with the occasional whatevers for us

after all no one stays at the top in the long run..and fans and press wont be there to pick up the mess...or care if you have wasted your life - just because you have been in the charts doesnt make any dent in a life ruined.

Do you know who allegedly inspired that song Rehab?

According to Amy - her last management i.e Brilliant19 suggested strongly that she should got to rehab and sort out her problems and she said no and broke away from them. So thankd to Nick Godwyn, I suppose, she had a big hit.

IMHO she'd have been better taking his advice - alcohol, eating disorder and self harming - what a terrible sad combination.

The number of people who got into showbusiness early and never get a normal life really worrries me. I'd never encourage one of mine to do tht. Put down the building blocks, yes. Not go there until they are adult. I remember Darius wanting Will to win PI as he was worried how it would affect Gareth if he won when he was so young.

At least Gareth seems to have his life sorted. He seems a decent peron.

Nick was such a father figure. I should think he would have had Amy's rather than her career interests at heart.

Yes, my impression is that Gareth has matured a lot and not just because he has aged. I'm sure some of that is due to being in a steady loving relationship and also being able to use his talents and be creative.

After PI he was quite simply overwhelmed and swept along by an uncontrollable tide. I wonder if he was sure which country he was in let alone which town sometimes. It's an experience he can look back on but maybe not one he'd like to replicate in the future. Not being the winner didn't save him from that.

Will was the adult Idol and Gareth the Teen Idol. He was in just as crazy a situation as Will with less life experience to cope.

Darius probably envisaged that if Gareth didn't win, he'd be in the position which in fact Darius himself later found himself - with time to draw breath and map out the route ahead.

He just didn't want anyone as young as Gareth to be put under too much pressure. It happened anyway but, as things turned out, he's now had his breathing space and we're beginning to see what Gareth's style is really like.
But he was right. Will seems to have coped well but moved from Simon Cowell very early on. He's done the serious acting that he so wanted to get into, so things have gone very well for him.
