December 22, 20195 yr Were you a Cheeky Girls fan like me Steve? :o  God no they were appalling lol
December 22, 20195 yr I usually listen to old 70's original charts, Tom Browne mainly, as there's a Facebook group and they post links to them on Mixcloud but am a bit fed up with the same ones every year so branching out a bit now in to the 80's, 90's and noughties. Yes was thinking that am sure Celine hits No.1 in early Feb.1995. Rednex go to No.1 after Christmas too IIRC. Another Night by Whigfield sounds just like Saturday Night. Probably 2 of the last examples of rises up to no1 until the download era. Love the stats DB!
December 22, 20195 yr Probably 2 of the last examples of rises up to no1 until the download era. Yes you're right. Mr. Blobby entered at No.1 then fell to two when knocked off by Take That but went back up to be the Christmas No.1. 1993. Can't think of another example.
December 22, 20195 yr The last number 1 to debut outside the Top 10 was Outhere Brothers “Boom Boom Boom” in June 1995. It debuted at 15 then climbed 15-5-2-{1} It was then 10 years (almost exactly) until the next one- James Blunt “You're Beautiful” in June 2005 which debuted at 12. Interestingly there have also been #1 hits titled “Boom! (Shake The Room)” (DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince in 1993), “Boom Boom (Pow)” (Black Eyed Peas in 2009), and “Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!!” (Vengaboys in 1999) which I believe made it a good connection in Only Connect. :P
December 22, 20195 yr Thanks didn't realise this was the last one. There must have been a long period where some record companies held tracks back and others released on sale the same time as they went to radio. On totp 1988 there are already songs that peaked first week like Bros, Kylie etc but that was mainly because they were huge artists and the songs normally fell as the song maybe wasn't huge outside the fans.
December 22, 20195 yr It was then 10 years (almost exactly) until the next one- James Blunt “You're Beautiful” in June 2005 which debuted at 12. You're Beautiful and the album Back To Bedlam seem so long ago now. Will have to dig that CD out as it's a great album.
