Posted March 31, 200619 yr So, it's official - he's been dropped by BMG. (I've just been on his boards). I've never been a huge fan, but I'm always kept an interest. I think he and his fans have been treated very badly. 19 are still his management company and say he will still be releasing this year. I wait to be convinced! What a cess pit of a record company BMG is :puke2: One poor lot of album sales and you're out on your ear  FM
March 31, 200619 yr What a cess pit of a record company BMG is :puke2: One poor lot of album sales and you're out on your ear  FM I'm certainly no fan of Gareth Gates, but I do agree with your assessement of Sony/BMG, they are a huge, monstrous conglomerate that has no interest in creativity at all. The fact that they've dropped Gates is quite astonishing really, because it seems that he's the sort of 'product' that they're interested in. When Sony/BMG bought out the Music For Nations label (which was mainly Hard Rock and Metal), they embarked on a cull of bands who were perceived to be "under-performing". So, it appears that no one is safe if they are willing to dump someone like Gates....
March 31, 200619 yr The second album may not have sold well, but all his singles went in the top 5. Some people are more single sellers then albums - no excuse to drop someone!

BMG have not said they have dropped Gareth, they have said he is no longer with them. Their choice of words was very definite and they could have a totally different meaning to being dropped. I think it probably would be best to wait and see what Gareth's management say when he returns, which will be very soon now. I will agree with you about BMG though and I, personally, am very glad that Gareth will no longer be working with them. He has never, apart from perhaps the first 6 months of his contract, had the support he deserved from them. They used him to make a quick buck and then turned their attentions elsewhere. March 31, 200619 yr Oh well, it's no loss  I pretty much hated everything he did apart from Sunshine!
March 31, 200619 yr I cant wait to hear his own music, hopefully soon, and he needs a company who is interested in treating their artists right, and to let them develop too.
March 31, 200619 yr Oh well, it's no loss  I pretty much hated everything he did apart from Sunshine! That is just the point Martie. Sunshine was the kind of music Gareth wanted to put out but was pretty much prevented I think.
March 31, 200619 yr It isn't official yet, I don't think Gareth was planning to stay with them anyway, so it wont make any differnce. He is still releasing his new music this year, for deffinite, but they arn't saying yet who with, all very exciting for Gareth fans :cheer:
March 31, 200619 yr Gareths recording contract is, and has always been with 19 recordings. Hence, BMGs wording was accurate, they can hardly drop him from a contract that they haven't got with him. Their agreement, with 19, was to release him under license. Sony/BMG put up the money and they manufacture & distribute the discs and make money for the company in the process. They obviously feel it would not be economically viable to continue with the agreement and have called a halt to proceedings. Much the same happened with Darius and his label last year. Darius and Gareth still have recording contracts, what they don't have now, is a label who'll manufacture, bank roll & distribute their music. How easy it'll be to find a label who will, is another matter.
March 31, 200619 yr Oh my god. At first I hated that guy, but he could sing for a little mor i think, he is young.

March 31, 200619 yr They're not assumptions val4jaden they're facts. Take a look at one of the Gareth c.ds you own. It'll be marked very clearly on there, '19 recordings, under exclusive license to (probably Ronagold (like Will) part of the BMG company).

April 1, 200619 yr How come I have only just found this site? Thanks Marguerite for that information(haven't learnt how to do quotes yet) all interesting stuff. Right- off to breaking news.

Actually it was Darius who decided not to continue his association with Mercury last year, it wasn't their decision to part company with him. It was a very wise decision on his part I think, considering their past track record of poor promotion. I'm sure it's the right decision for Gareth too and I look forward to hearing some new material from him soon :)
April 1, 200619 yr may be the best thing for Gareth, many artists have come back much better after finding a new label. I beleive Darius wasn't happy with mercury's handling for his fourth single release, and the direction they were pushing him. Lulu let sip a lot of negative issues concernign mercury's handling of artists. Perhaps Gareth was the same, he felt he was being sidelined.
