April 2, 200619 yr I apologise, with so many April Fools jokes going around I thought this was another, I apologise  Topic Opened You are reminded to keep the topic clean, no arguing please, or I will be forced to close it again, anyone with any queries, just PM me  I was thinking I was going senile.....I was going to post on here and found it locked....then it wasn't.....thanks for re-opening it. I am looking forward to hearing Gareths new music. From what I've read he's been working hard and good luck to him. Hope he finds some company who believes in him to produce the cd.
April 3, 200619 yr Spamfritter, your last comment sums up why so many fans are pleased with this news, or at least relieved. Simon Cowell made no secret of the fact he didn't want Gareth to release Sunshine, and it wasn't much of a secret that Cowell and Fuller fell out over his last album too. The result was an album that had a lot of good tracks, that received excellent reviews, but was put together in a way that made it too eclectic to market properly. Promotion was poor, and people didn't get that Gareth's music had developed. So many people claimed to really like Sunshine, but didn't even consider buying the album, because they assumed it was stuffed with ballads/covers. The fillers that Cowell insisted on adding to make up the numbers on 'his' CD gave those who didn't want to admit that Gareth could produce something fresh and new the excuse to criticise. Gareth's album didn't even do that badly in the end. Nothing amazing, but considering BMG UK cancelled most of the promotion budget after Sunshine "flopped" at number 3 it didn't do that badly. Because Gareth was unable to do any interviews at the time he missed out on all the radio and tv interviews that make up a major chunk of anyone else's promotion. That's not directly BMG's fault, although assuming that he didn't need to do interviews and so didn't need to take the time to work on his speech was an error that everyone involved in his management made collectively. On the contrary, the album did very well abroad where his promotion was more creative. He was also able to do more interviews thanks to having gone to more speech courses and the more laid back pace of interviews with someone speaking their second language or via an interpreter. As well as big sales, Gareth has won a lot of major awards in South East Asia and that's because he was/is a genuinely good pop star when removed from the politics of where he came from. He can do that again if he gets the right backing and the right song. It's also been pretty common knowledge that Fuller/19 have been doing all the A&R work and financing for this album, just as he did the A&R (not sure about financing) for the Night CD on Gareth's last album. If Gareth signs to a new label then they might buy the rights, or Simon may keep them. He might do the whole thing in house as he's already got his own label in America, but I'd rather Gareth was also working with people outside of 19 to keep things creative, so long as there aren't conflicts like before.
April 3, 200619 yr If your information is correct that 19 have been financing this album, then it's safe to assume that Sony/BMG severed their ties with Gareth long ago, otherwise they'd have financed it surely? Whether Gareth only ever had a 2 album deal with S records is a possibility, but it seems the media weren't far wrong when the original story first broke over a year ago.
April 3, 200619 yr You can assume what you like, but it doesn't always work like that and as you have said yourself - Gareth's contract was never a normal contract as 19 are not a normal management company. They have a hell of a lot more capital for a start and can afford to finance albums, giving them greater control and less need to compromise. As I said before, it was Simon Fuller and his contacts via 19 that did all that work for half of his second album, and you've studied the cover in more detail than most fans, so you'll know BMG released that one!!! The agreement this time was that Gareth and 19 would be left to work on an album and when it was finished they'd take it from there. That's what BMG staff told fans. More recently, the BMG staff who told fans he's not with them now said that the decision happened last month, so when the president of BMG said that Gareth hadn't been dropped he probably wasn't lying - although I'm sure you'd enjoy telling him he's wrong too! ;) Edited April 3, 200619 yr by Nosey
April 3, 200619 yr Had you read my earlier post Nosier, you would have noticed that I had stated that BMG were not lying, that they could hardly admit to dropping him from a recording contract that they never held in the first place. ;) BTW, my assumptions are based entirely on what you said, i.e that 19 were financing this album. As they hadn't done that in the past, then either the contract between 19 & Sony/BMG as regards Gareth, had come to an end or Sony/BMG chose not to.
April 3, 200619 yr Looking forward to the new album and to the unveiling of the new Gareth. The last pictures I saw were from this year's calendar. Gareth was looking fit and happy.
April 5, 200619 yr Shame, thought we'd seen the last of him. Me 2 god i cant stand him  :puke:

You are very blinkered with your options Marguerite. Can you really only see these options you have suggested. I can think of at least one other, which I believe is the correct one, despite all the doom and gloom a few of you are trying to imply :)

I can think of at least one other, which I believe is the correct one, despite all the doom and gloom a few of you are trying to imply :) I'm very open to any other suggestions val4jaden, if there's something you'd like to tell us, why don't you? As I said, I was replying specifically to Nosiers post, I've absolutely no idea as to what's been going on with Gareth, only what she said, and that was 'it's common knowledge that 19 have been financing this album'
April 5, 200619 yr I'm very open to any other suggestions val4jaden, if there's something you'd like to tell us, why don't you? No I wouldn't. As I think I said in an earlier post, I prefer to wait until there is an official announcement made. But I get a bit carried away at times  Can I ask a favour Marguerite. Do you think you could call me Val rather than val4jadan. I know its my username, but it sounds too formal :D
April 5, 200619 yr Was in cardiff today say his debut album is the bargain bin for 99p Also in a book shop they were selling a book of his for £1.99
April 5, 200619 yr I think that was a post for April Fool, unless you seen it somewhere else, and not here?
April 5, 200619 yr I think that was a post for April Fool, unless you seen it somewhere else, and not here? Ah maybe. I can't for the life of me remember. Ta muchly.
April 13, 200619 yr EXIT GATES GARETH GATES has finally been shown the door by his record label  and SHAYNE WARD should take heed. Spiky-haired Pop Idol star Gareth was dropped yesterday by music chiefs at Sony BMG. And the decision sends a stark warning to Shayne, the latest graduate from a reality pop contest  if you want to survive, you’ll need more than a couple of ballads and a cheeky smile. Gareth now joins STEVE BROOKSTEIN, MICHELLE McMANUS, SAM NIXON, MARK RHODES and DARIUS DANESH on the pop scrapheap. I wouldn’t want that on my CV. Dropped idol ... Gareth gets dumped and Shayne Ward, left, should take note A source said: “The record label felt there was no way for them to take Gareth’s career forward. He had been working hard on trying to relaunch himself with a new sound and new image. “But his latest material wasn’t strong enough to compete with fresh talent being churned out on programmes like X Factor.†Bradford-born Gareth has been chewed up and spat out by the industry. Most people thought he should have won telly’s Pop Idol show in 2002. But WILL YOUNG, who pipped him, has proved he was the right choice with the talent to carry him through long-term. Scapheap ... Gareth's promotional material gets binned Will is a bright, individual bloke who isn’t afraid to express himself. He argued back to SIMON COWELL during the show’s heats and has shown he is his own man by shaking off the reality TV tag and earning respect as a solo artist. And don’t think these singers are coining it in after landing their dream record deal. Shayne explained yesterday: “People think I’m loaded but it’s not true. “My record contract is worth a million but I pay the expenses  stylists, make-up artists, travel and all that stuff.†Gareth will have earned a few quid but I know he’d swap it in a second for another crack at the charts. The writing was on the wall for him in February when I showed you a picture of promotional material stacked up outside the Sony BMG offices for the binmen. But he can take away a few happy memories from his pop career  including three No1s and a No2 album. And who could forget his late-night bedroom antics with JORDAN when she was pregnant? Like I said, a few happy memories. Sourse - www.thesun.co.uk
April 13, 200619 yr Nice to see others eager to spread the news (not). Looks like Simon Fuller's (19) is showing support for Gareth and his exciting future. At least one of the Simon's has good taste.
April 13, 200619 yr Don't know whether to thank you or not Scotty for posting up what that vile woman has printed. I think anyone with any sense will take 95% of it with a pinch of salt. Gareth's management 19 have put a message on his boards to put everyone's mind at ease. They have confirmed that Gareth is not with BMG any longer, but they are continuing to work closely with him and support him in what they believe to be an exciting future. They look forward to revealing further plans for him soon. Not quite the doom and gloom the witch would lead us to believe is it :)
April 13, 200619 yr Vicky Newton is as clueless as ever. If she'd bothered to get her facts right she'd know that Michelle has a new single on the release schedule. Hardly on the scrap heap...although it remains to be seen how well the single does. Good luck to both Gareth & Michelle.
