There is a two page spread in today's Express on the subject (not bad for someone everyone is supposed to have forgotten about). This extract was posted on Gareth's official website.

For the moment all is not lost. It was striking that Gates’s management company 19 was keen to talk yesterday and its enthusiasm for its young client appeared to be genuine.

A 19 entertainments spokeswoman insisted that the company still had full confidence in the 21 year old singer who is continuing to work on his planned third album. She cited several artists including Mariah Carey and Embrace who had gone on to fruitful careers after changing record labels. 'Contracts often come up for renewal, sometimes the artist decides not to continue sometimes the label'. She said 'As far as our relationship with him is concerned nothing has changed. We are going forward with our plans with Gareth, they just won’t involve BMG'.

Sounds good to me. :cheer: :cheer:

was gatheth gates signed directly to sony bmg or just licenced from 19?

Licenced from 19, all Simon Fullers PI acts are.

Yes, so Cowell takes a higher cut from the X Factor lot who he has direct control over. ;)

All Cowell's acts are released on his own record label SYCO, lots of dosh for him.

Will & Gareth were on his S label straight after PI. Looks like that was a 2 album deal only. I think Simon Fuller is too shrewd to tie his acts up for too long without renegotiating. Wills last album didn't have the S logo on it anymore, but we knew he'd got a new 500k deal with Sony/BMG for Keep on early last year.

He's used most of the big labels for his other acts, Spice Girls, S Club, Rachel Stevens etc., so he doesn't restrict himself to one record company, obviously looking for the best deal to get his percentage from ;)

Maybe Gareth has bought some fitness equipment to save him going down the gym - but fitness instructor ? come on !

I didn't say I believed it!

I don't think they 'parted company'.

Gates was sacked, dropped, end of.

I didn't say I believed it!

No I know you didn't say you believed it , sorry if it read that way , I meant the paper ;)

I think BMG dropping Gareth or him no longer wanting to stay with them is the right move for him, They never showed him any respect and didn't support him the way they should have. I am confident that when Gareth comes back with his 3rd album which I am really looking forward to hearing that he CAN be successful again.

I also believe that we definitely haven't seen the last of him, He has talent, charisma and works extremely hard which is what he's been doing recently. I am excited about his future and believe he will be bigger and better than ever, People say he might not be as successful as he was. But now that he has had so much time to concentrate on his music I believe things will turn out for the best, Also the fact he isn't with BMG anymore will play a big part in it.

This is another chapter opening in his career and a new start, Whatever happens I will always be there to support him, No matter what he chooses to do. :D

I think he's definitely had a duff deal from BMG and will do better elsewhere. He's writing his own stuff now and playing instruments, which apart from his voice is his strength. I don't think BMG encourage their acts to do that. They would just want him to churn out dirgey, overproduced ballads.
Will he go to another company and release music then?

At the moment he's "talking to record companies" to release his new material.

Interesting info.

Simon Fuller is beginning to sound far more interesting.

I'm sure Simon Fuller will do his best for Gareth, but it could be difficult getting his music on to another label for a while yet, I don't want people to take this the wrong way, but Gareth comes with "baggage", he's seen as a failure by a lot of the media and it'll be hard to erase that idea from peoples minds, especially as the press continuosly mention his album flopping and will they ever let the Jordan incident drop? He needs to get out and about and do some small gigs or something, He seems to be a bit of a recluse, his confidence can't be all that good, when was the last time he performed in public?

wasnt S sold to Sony BMG for loads of cash?

erm, think BMG dont want to be with BMG anymore! they are trying to sell their half of Sony BMG. That's the latest rumours, oh and Sony havent got that much extra cash to spend after buying more of the Beatles catalogue and delaying the new Playstaion/messing up with the UMD

when was the last time he performed in public?

Good question. The last 'gig' we know he did was a private concert for the Sultan of Brunei in January 2005. There should also have been a public concert to celebrate the New Year, but it was cancelled as the country was still in official mourning after the Tsunami. The last proper public concert he did was in Indonesia in December 2004. It was to a crowd of 50,000 at their equivalent of Party in the Park and reports had him getting off the stage, getting the crowd involved, so I don't think he has any problems there. Other than that we know he sang at an even to celebrate the opening of the Louis Vuitton store in Shanghai, but the only reason people in the UK got to hear about that was because a fan found some paparazzi photos of him on a Polish photo-site from when he visited the Shanghai Grand Prix the day before!

I don't think Gareth has any confidence issues about singing or being seen in public. He's always been very comfortable around people and I've yet to see him look miserable on stage. On the other hand, he is probably sick of the press and avoiding press attention. He still goes on McGuire courses, but gave up the public speaking part after The Mirror did a particularly petty piece about it. It could be coincidence, but I doubt it.

From what I can tell, Gareth is maintaining a low profile partly with a view to ridding himself of some of the baggage by having a fresh start when he returns. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop other people from harping on about the same old stories all the time anyway.

he's seen as a failure by a lot of the media

I don't think its the case he's seen as a failure, as much as a few ignorant journalists who don't like him, trying to make everyone believe that he is.

If people were to stop and think for themselves, what he's achieved, they would see that in no way is he a failure. Unfortunately some people just find it easier to believe what they read, which is usually only half of the truth, or even total lies.

I think that's what suggy means. Naturally, if you look at Gareth's actual achievements, he's had a successful career by any standards. However, that's not how the media report it and so something needs to be done to shake that up.

I recall just a week after Gareth had won the MTV Asia award, and it had been reported (in Asia) that he had the second biggest selling album across the region over the previous year, Dominic Mohan did a piece about how the likes of Gareth would never make it abroad. Incidentally, the bulk of the UK's coverage of the MTV Asia awards mentioned every other UK act present, even those who only turned up for the party, except Gareth. Either their PR people were doing a much better job, or BMG did a lousy one. Whatever the case, it's like there has been some kind of media black-out on reporting Gareth's successes. A change in label could put things back on an even keel.

I'm sure Simon Fuller will do his best for Gareth

I sincerely hope he does. He seems to be a man that remains loyal.

I know Will has been doing loads and loads of promotion and appearing on loads of programmes. Would that be paid for by BMG or by Simon Fuller, does anyone know?
