Posted October 22, 200618 yr is that white rabbit by jefferson airplane on the makeup advert at the moment? starts with the word 'One
October 24, 200618 yr Author yes it is. i like this. its like velvet underground, love and the doors. however how did they do from this to writing the worst song ever made by 'man' (according to blender) we built this city. did they just get worse as they changed names or was it actaully one of those things where only the bass player got the group name???
October 25, 200618 yr "Worst song ever," my ass Blender Magazine!!! :P It's a LEGENDARY guilty pleasure! And tigerboy changing the name from Airplane to Starship wasn't even the strangest name change - in 1991 they officially changed their name to "Jefferson Starship The Next Generation"
October 25, 200618 yr like many inivotive groups... they get old and lose their cutting edge settling for m.o.r. bland a.o.r. fleetwood mac being a prime example.
October 25, 200618 yr Author :P It's a LEGENDARY guilty pleasure! hey Consie this is buzzjack, we care about guilty pleasures here!!!   (see the many guilty pleasure list i did in the past where people go on and on and on saying well its not a guilty pleaure i really really like this!!!) "Worst song ever," my ass Blender Magazine!!! yeah Consie!!! even though if it was spun of uk maxim it would be james blunt that would take the title  in a david blaine type fearless stunt a poor blender reporter has been locked in a box with only we built this city (worst song ever) to listen to. And tigerboy changing the name from Airplane to Starship wasn't even the strangest name change - in 1991 they officially changed their name to "Jefferson Starship The Next Generation" i think this is funny as it makes them sound like star trek http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/61/Enterprise_NX-01_2001-01-300.jpg well it sure beats a fooking transit

I saw two VH1 idiot commentators arguing over which song was ultimately the worst ever made "We Built This City" or "The Final Countdown" by Europe. I had a fit and downloaded both immediately! Along with the much-loathed "Jump" by Van Halen, these synth-assisted power rock songs are a joy  Although I will say at least you and can I can recognize WHY the press and music snobs hate them!
October 26, 200618 yr Author well they are very cheesy rock, but are far from the worst songs ever.... maybe its a cultural difference between us and the americans. they say that they cant do irony, maybe they dont under stand the cheese either??? (fyi: blender is the spin off mag from american maxim mag/dennis pubsh)
October 26, 200618 yr 'White Rabbit' is a very good song. I quite like 'Somebody To Love' as well. But I have to say 'We Built This City' is one of my least favourite songs ever. The lyrics are so terrible. All the synthesized stuff in it has dated very badly as well. Perhaps they just reflect the stereotypes of the decade they were in- 'White Rabbit' in the psychadelic drug-influenced '60s and 'We Built This City' in the cheesy corporate '80s (whether those stereotypes were actually what either decade was like or not). I'm not much of an '80s fan to be honest. I really don't like 'Jump' by Van Halen either. I kind of like 'The Final Countdown' in a guilty pleasure way though. I was very surprised to learn earlier this week that Europe are still having hits in their native Sweden.

October 26, 200618 yr Author 'White Rabbit' is a very good song. I quite like 'Somebody To Love' as well. do i know this as well? not sure. is that the same song as the boogie pimps cover with the babys falling thru the sky.
October 26, 200618 yr do i know this as well? not sure. is that the same song as the boogie pimps cover with the babys falling thru the sky. Yes it is, and the Boogie Pimps did a very bad job of it IMO.
October 26, 200618 yr This song is brilliant and deserves a re-issue. It was first released in the Summer of 1967 (the summer of love) A great piece of psychedelic garage rock. It was a Top 10 hit in the US but flopped here, failing to make the then Top 50. It was banned by the BBC because of it drugs references. The title was never featured in the song. Jefferson Airplane evolved into Jefferson Starship in the 70s and in the mid 80s became STARSHIP. They featured the brilliant singer Grace Slick. The had 2 Top 10 UK hits in the late 80s. We Built This City and the #1, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now. They also had a few minor hits. I also happen to have the Airplane Greatest Hits album which feature all their US hits.
