November 6, 200618 yr Shepherd Backs Under-Fire Roeder Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd says he is "right behind" under-fire manager Glenn Roeder and is backing him to lead the club to Premiership safety. Shepherd met Roeder and the players on Monday to discuss the club's slump to second bottom of the Premiership. Shepherd told BBC Five Live: "I've got full confidence in the players and the manager. We'll get out of this blip. "I'm no different from any other Newcastle supporter and it's also upset the players and the manager." The Magpies have not won in seven league matches and were beaten at home by Sheffield United at the weekend. That result sparked protests after the game with thousands of fans booing the team and chanting "sack the board". Glenn Roeder has stood up all his life and he will always stay standing up whatever happens to him Shepherd has missed the club's last four matches as he spent time out of the country for family reasons. But he vowed to redouble his efforts to steer the club in the right direction, despite mounting speculation the Jersey-based Belgravia Group is ready to launch a takeover bid. "Right now, it would seem I am the only one prepared to do this job and it's one I will continue to do to the very best of my ability and with the best interest of the club at heart," Shepherd said. "These things happen in football and the fans are entitled to do that. "I'm one of them and I'll never criticise the Geordie supporters. I know they'll get behind us." Shepherd added that the club's injury situation was largely to blame for the poor start to the season. He said: "We've had nine injuries, including Michael Owen, who was brought in to replace Shearer, and Kieron Dyer with long-term injuries. It's not an excuse, it's a fact. "But I'm not going to drop my head. I'm going to get in there and fight." Earlier, Roeder said that he had no intention of standing down, despite taking only two points from their last seven matches. "We all know the horrible feeling when you're on a poor run and we also know, our experience tells us, it will change, it will turn," said Roeder, who replaced Graeme Souness in February. "We do have enough quality, even if the squad is small, and hopefully we'll get some better luck with injuries and turn this season around quickly. "Glenn Roeder has stood up all his life and he will always stay standing up whatever happens to him." Newcastle have not won a league match since the 2-0 triumph over Roeder's former club West Ham on 17 September. Next up are Watford in the Carling Cup, before a weekend trip to Manchester City. I think this really spells the beginning of the end for Roeders managerial career at Newcastle.
November 7, 200618 yr Shepherd Backs Under-Fire Roeder Nothing says "You've got 2 games left and then you're OUT" like a chairman backing his manager  Maybe i'm just harsh but the Newcastle situation atm is friggin' hilarious! Of course we all know what the out-come of this is gonna be... Shepherd sacked, She-Ra takes over as chairman and brings in a popular manager, Newcastle soar to new heights (Yes, the top 12!!!! Wow!!!!), everyone's kisses and rainbows
November 7, 200618 yr Author They can't sack Roeder, they need stability! High manager turnover is the worst thing that can happen in football!!! One manager comes, demands money and sings loads of players, he gets sacked a few moths later and his replacement demands the same amounts of money and gets rid of players he doesn't want cheap. Clubs lose millions of pounds and it doesn't work, he needs a chance!!

I totally agree with that statement. ^_^ But I think the majority of the time a lot of it is to do with pressure from the fans though, I mean you've only gotta look at the situation at Leeds, as even though they sacked there old manger there still in the same mess with Wise in charge.
November 7, 200618 yr Totally disagree If someone is not doing their job properly and does not have the confidence of those around them then they have to go, it does not matter if they are a dustman or a director of Microsoft, if Roeder cannot motivate the team, command the respect of the team and spend wisely in the transfer market then he should go, when players see an incompetent manager then morale suffers I am not just talking about Roeder I am talking about any manager, I have had to fire people before on many occasions and while I take no pleasure in it the company was more important than any one individual when that individual was not performing
November 7, 200618 yr well i think roeder will be getting sacked then sven gotan erikson is going to take over. let see if he can get newcastle back up the leauge.

I doubt it will be Sven tbh, Fat Freddie would never pay that sort of wages for a manager he has always gone for the cheaper option, I think it will be Curbishley

They have a lot of injuries to key players like Owen and Given etc at the moment although Newcastle are a big club so they should have decent enough back up for most positions but that isn't the case for them.

All teams have injuries or have to cope with setbacks though, look at Utd losing RVN in the summer and Smith picking up a serious injury leaving them with Saha leading the line, look at Spurs who have had a succession of injuries, both teams have just got on with it, Newcastle have had years to sort out their defence but have failed to do it, last year Newcastle bought Luque, Parker, Emre etc and ended up with more midfielders than they needed but at the same time did not address the defence, this summer they spent tons on Duff when they already had N'Zogbia down the left and again never addressed the defence.
November 7, 200618 yr well i think new castle will get relagated and sven will take over becuse freedy is going to sack roeder anyway. roeder has done all that he can now but i think it is time for him to leave.

Thats right and I do think that Freddy and Roeder tend to buy players because of there name rather than their skill on the pitch. They did spend big though and not buy many decent players as backup incase of injuries, but I do think there a bit unfortunate at the fact all these big name players they buy are either out injured or have no form at the moment.

Newcastle? Relegated? Don't be silly, they're the "Best Teeeem In The Premiership, man" But it would be hilarious if they were
November 7, 200618 yr Every first season Roeder has had with a club, he's taken them to 7th place. But got relegated the season after ;) :D

November 7, 200618 yr Newcasle the best team don't be stupid they are at the bottom anyway so think they will get relegated. Middlesbrough always have been, and probs always will be (unless a miracle occurs at Sunderland) the best North-East team And I hope Newcastle DO get relegated.. should knock their enormous Geordie egos down a few pegs. And it would be hilarious to see them smash up their city centre again* *Newcastle famously smashed up their city centre when Sunderland beat them at home a couple of seasons ago. Good sports, eh?

Yeah, for once I want to see something bad to happen to Newcastle so that we can laugh at them, since as the bast*rds always seem to find opportunities to take the p*** out of us for our shortcomings -_-
November 8, 200618 yr Author I can't see them going down at all. Roeder's a decent enough manager and they have a decent enough squad. But when you have injuries to around half of it you will struggle. Once players are match fit again they shall be fine. There is also nothing wrong with Roeder. The one problem is Shephard. They can have Ferguson, Wenger or Mourinhio in charge - none would be any good because they;ve got an appaling chairman!!

I doubt Newcastle will go down because there Newcastle, but there just going through a bad period at the moment and as you rightly say the main problem at Newcastle is Freddy, and the sooner they get rid of him the better for Newcastle football club.
