When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe didn't play "Wolves" by Selena Gomez and Marshmello.

And I had been wondering whether there would come a time when MTV Europe would skip the number 1... Now the time has come! Supposedly, the chart-topper is "Nice For What" by Drake as it's number 1 in the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart... "Nice For What" seems to have an official video so I'm not sure why they skipped it - especially as they played "God's Plan" previously...

Has this happened before? Perhaps. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the chart of June 20, 2015 but the number 1 (judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart) was "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift. During the following editions of the chart, MTV Europe NEVER played "Bad Blood". Is it possible that they played it when it actually was at the top? I guess so but it's not very likely... On the other hand, it wouldn't surprise me if they pretended that "Bad Blood" didn't exist and presented another song as the chart-topper... In any case, I can't know for certain what happened then.

However, I do know what happened now - in the chart of May 5, 2018 MTV Europe did skip the number 1! It's sad and unreal at the same time - what's the purpose of a chart that doesn't show the number 1?!...

hello sdizda: in the other hours the same songs or did they show other songs in other positions by chance? :D :D :D

MTV Europe broadcasts this chart 3 times during the weekend: from 12:00 to 14:00 CET on Saturday; from 19:00 to 21:00 CET on Saturday; and from 12:00 to 14:00 CET on Sunday. In the editions of this chart from the saturday evening and sunday, they sometimes broadcast videos that weren't broadcast during the premiere edition of the chart. So, for example, in the release of the chart from Saturday night (19:00 to 21:00 CET) they broadcast, at position 47, a video by Selena Gomez & Marshmello - Wolves.

OK, this edition of the chart is definitely an improvement! This time MTV Europe did play "Nice For What" by Drake at number 1! Furthermore, they FINALLY played "Breathe" by Jax Jones (it spent months in the Top 20 and they are only playing it now when it's already out of the Top 20)...

By the way, "Nice For What" is Drake's third number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart. His previous 2 chart-toppers were both duets with Rihanna - "What's My Name?" and "Work".

...And "Wake Me Up!" by Avicii and Aloe Blacc re-enters the chart... It last appeared at number 17 in the chart of March 22, 2014...

Unfortunately, this was another absurd edition of the chart where MTV Europe skipped the number 1... Supposedly, the chart-topper is "One Kiss" by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa as it's number 1 in the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart... "One Kiss" has an official video, what could be the reason MTV Europe didn't play it?...

"One Kiss" is not at the top anymore... I can only hope that it will return to number 1 and then MTV Europe will play it - otherwise it will remain in the history of the chart as a skipped number 1...

The new chart-topper is "Flames", which becomes David Guetta's sixth and Sia's fourth number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart.

Previously, David Guetta reached the top with "When Love Takes Over", "Sexy Chick", "Dangerous" and "This One's For You" while Sia achieved the same with "Cheap Thrills" and "The Greatest"...

...And then they also had a joint number 1 with "Titanium" at the beginning of 2012.

However, the most memorable thing for me in this edition of the chart is that MTV Europe played "Ashes" by Celine Dion! The last time she appeared in the chart before this was at the beginning of 2000 with "That's The Way It Is"... 18 years ago!

Just as I hoped, "One Kiss" returns to number 1 (judging by the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart)... yet MTV Europe skipped it again! Perhaps next week they'll play it?...

It's notable that MTV Europe played 2 different Liam Payne singles (one after the other, actually) - "For You" and "Familiar"... In the past, they often only played one single by an artist during a particular edition of the chart...

And then we come to Eurovision! In previous years it has happened (although seldom) for the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest to appear in this chart. And this time MTV Europe did play "Toy" by נטע (Netta) - but not as a part of the chart!...

In each broadcasting of the chart, MTV Europe plays several songs and then there is an "advertisement period". What happened was that MTV played "Lullaby" by Sigala and Paloma Faith (shown as number 11); then the "advertisement period" started and during it MTV Europe played "Toy" (without any position shown)!... And when the "advertisement period" ended, they played "Nice For What" by Drake (shown as number 9)...

But it gets even more interesting. According to the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, not only is "Toy" at number 10 but "You Let Me Walk Alone" by Michael Schulte is at number 8! "You Let Me Walk Alone" represented Germany at the contest and finished fourth. I'm not surprised at all that MTV Europe didn't play it...

So this means that there are 2 songs from this year's Eurovision Song Contest in the chart. Has there been any other instance when more than one song from a particular edition of Eurovision has appeared in this chart?

YES! Only once - in 1990 (unless it also happened in earlier years but we don't have archives from then). In 1990 both the winner - "Insieme: 1992" by Toto Cutugno - and "White And Black Blues" by Joelle Ursull (which represented France and finished second) entered MTV Europe's European chart!

"Flames" by David Guetta and Sia returns to the top and thus scores a second week at number 1. Meanwhile, MTV Europe still refuse to play "One Kiss"...

"Leave A Light On" by Tom Walker first appeared in the chart at the very beginning of 2018. It peaked at number 10 in the chart of February 10... But now, 4 months later, it improves on its peak position and reaches number 9!

This time MTV Europe did play "Toy" as a part of the chart - at number 15. It's the second Eurovision song from Israel to appear in MTV Europe's European chart after "Diva" by Dana International peaked at number 10 in 1998 - exactly 20 years ago!

And Backstreet Boys return to the chart! "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" becomes their first single in the chart since "Inconsolable" back in 2007...

When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe also played "Mine" by Bazzi at number 40.

"Freaky Friday" by Lil' Dicky and Chris Brown actually climbs 13 places up; "Nice For What" by Drake actually climbs 2 places up.

"I'll Be There" becomes Jess Glynne's third solo number 1 after "Hold My Hand" and "Don't Be So Hard On Yourself". In addition, she reached the top with "These Days" earlier this year; before that - with "Not Letting Go" with Tinie Tempah; and before that - with "Rather Be" with Clean Bandit (although I didn't credit her for that).

"Fall In Line" is Christina Aguilera's first appearance in the chart since "Say Something", her collaboration with A Great Big World from 2014.

And with Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion and Backstreet Boys being simultaneously in the chart, I get the feeling like it's the end of 1999/beginning of 2000 again...

When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe also played "Hunger" by Florence & The Machine at number 46.

"Flames" by David Guetta and Sia returns to the top for a third (nonconsecutive) week - the song has had 3 separate one-week runs at number 1.

MTV Europe played 24 songs which were a part of this edition of the chart. It's actually impressive that 12 of the songs (half of them!) were ones that MTV Europe hadn't played during the previous edition of the chart. A couple of those - like "In My Blood" by Shawn Mendes - had been in the chart for weeks but MTV Europe only played them for the first time now...

What surprised me the most was "Echame La Culpa" by Luis Fonsi and Demi Lovato. MTV Europe played it during several editions of the chart at the beginning of 2018... and then they stopped playing it - although, judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, the song spent many more weeks in the Top 20... And now, months later, it suddenly reappears at number 14!

It's been a long time since MTV Europe DIDN'T play songs placed below the Top 40!

It's surprising to see both "Paradise" and "Shotgun" by George Ezra in the chart. Usually MTV Europe don't play 2 songs by the same (main) artist during one and the same edition of the chart...

MTV Europe first played "Leave A Light On" by Tom Walker during the chart of January 6, 2018. Now, almost 6 months later, it suddenly reaches a new peak position - number 3!

And "Solo" becomes Clean Bandit's fourth number 1 after "Rather Be", "Rockabye" and "Symphony". On the other hand, this is the first time Demi Lovato reaches the top spot.
