(Last country thread of the year!)

Ukraine's Vidbir which gave the country its best ever Eurovision result AND its worst ever result is back for 2018. The acts competing for the Ukrainian ticket to Lisbon are:

Constantine Dmitriev

Serhiy Babkin

Laud

Kazka

The VYO

Kozak System

Vilna

pur:pur

The Erised

Ingret Kostenko

Mélovin

Julinoza

Tayanna

Kadnay

Yurcash

Mountain Breeze

Illaria

Dilemma

Most of the songs are available to listen to online now.

Really liked "Time" last year, and after initially hating it grew to love "1944" as well. Ukraine are pretty consistent. Let's be honest, Verka Serduchka and Ani Lorak were robbed. They're the Sweden of the east!

The 6 finalists are:

Kadnay - Beat Of The Universe

Laud - Waiting

Mélovin - Under The Ladder

Tayanna - Lelya

The Erised - Heroes

Vilna - Forest Song

Can't decide whether to back Mélovin or Tayanna.

Yes, that's been my dilemma as well! But I think I'm gonna back Tayanna even though her staging was a bit messy in the semi final, because Lelya is just so joyous and infectious (although I'm sceptical about a possible rumoured English version). The slightly bizarre lyrics of Melovin's song are just putting me off a little at the moment.

I think Melovin's probably the slight favorite to win this at the moment given he won the televote in the semi and was second with the juries. If she can win it though I'd prefer Tayanna as I think that'd really add some more variety to this year's lineup.

But given this is Ukraine I'm not going to rule out something winning by coming second on both and winning the ticket to Lisbon that way.

TOMORROW'S NATIONAL FINAL...
UKRAINE

vidbir2018.png

Vidbir

24th February 2018
Begins at 5pm in the UK and 7pm in Ukraine.
The show is scheduled to last 84 years.

Watch the selection via the official UA YouTube channel.

Running order

Voting format
The voting will be 50% jury voting and 50% televoting.

The favourites to win
It's widely expected to be a two horse race between Tayanna and Mélovin, with the latter slightly edging ahead.
Verka just accused Tayanna of miming with the use of lots of Ukrainian expletives oop

Tayanna proved him wrong but singing part of the track again and an angry man shouting at Verka followed

Flashbacks to Linda Martin!

Angry man turns out to be Tayanna’s PR and he told Verka to go **** himself amongst other things

Tayanna wins the jury vote with Mélovin second! I assume Mélovin will have walked the televote so even it Tayanna gets second he'll still have won.
Both are fantastic, Melovin edges it just for me so would like to see him win the televote!

Agreed, Ukraine coming to win YET AGAIN *.*

Miming or not (I think she was ooooop) Tayanna's song is a bop. Melovin's is really good as well so either would be great.

wow, i agree, both are pretty strong and serious contenders for Top 10 at Eurovision!

Ukraine is back at it after the traditional clunker of a 'home turf' entry

A reverse BQL for Tayanna, 2 jury wins in a row but two televote snubs in a row putting her 2nd twice in a row. But Melovin deserved this and Ukraine could be heading to the top 5!

poor Tayanna though, bitch can't get a break~

oh well, third time's the charm

and interestingly this is the first non-female export since the debut entry (plus Verka counting as female~)
